and I will let<MH7971> the people<MH5971a> go<MH7971>, so that they may sacrifice<MH2076> to the LORD<MH3068>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to Pharaoh<MH6547>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>The<MH6286> honor<MH6286> is<MH6286> yours<MH6286> to tell me: when<MH4970> shall I plead<MH6279> for you and your servants<MH5650> and your people<MH5971a>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>that the frogs<MH6854> be destroyed<MH3772> from you and your houses<MH1004>, <i>that</i> they be left<MH7604> only<MH7534b> in the Nile<MH2975>?” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559>, “Tomorrow<MH4279>.” So he said<MH559>, “<i>May it be</i> according to your word<MH1697>, so<MH4616> that<MH4616> you may know<MH3045> that there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> one<MH369> like the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>The frogs<MH6854> will depart<MH5493> from you and your houses<MH1004>, and from your servants<MH5650> and your people<MH5971a>; they will be left<MH7604> only<MH7534b> in the Nile<MH2975>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175> went<MH3318> out<MH3318> from Pharaoh<MH6547>, and Moses<MH4872> cried<MH6817> out<MH6817> to the LORD<MH3068> concerning<MH5921, 1697> the frogs<MH6854> which<MH834> He had <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>inflicted<MH7760> upon Pharaoh<MH6547>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> did<MH6213a> according to the word<MH1697> of Moses<MH4872>, and the frogs<MH6854> died<MH4191> out of the houses<MH1004>, the courtyards<MH2691a>, and the fields<MH7704>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>So they piled<MH6651> them in heaps<MH2563b>, and the land<MH776> stank<MH887>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>But when Pharaoh<MH6547> saw<MH7200> that there was relief<MH7309>, he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>hardened<MH3513> his heart<MH3820> and did not listen<MH8085> to them, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had said<MH1696>. <p class="hdg">The Plague of Insects</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Say<MH559> to Aaron<MH175>, ‘Extend<MH5186> your staff<MH4294> and strike<MH5221> the dust<MH6083> of the earth<MH776>, so that it may turn<MH1961> into <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>gnats<MH3654> through all<MH3605> the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>They did<MH6213a> so<MH3651>; and Aaron<MH175> extended<MH5186> his hand<MH3027> with his staff<MH4294> and struck<MH5221> the dust<MH6083> of the earth<MH776>, and there were <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>gnats<MH3654> on <i>every</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>person<MH120> and animal<MH929>. All<MH3605> the dust<MH6083> of the earth<MH776> turned<MH1961> into <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>gnats<MH3654> through all<MH3605> the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>The soothsayer<MH2748> priests<MH2748> tried<MH6213a> with their secret<MH3909> arts<MH3909> to produce<MH3318> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>gnats<MH3654>, but they could<MH3201> not; so there were <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>gnats<MH3654> on <i>every</i> person<MH120> and animal<MH929>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then the soothsayer<MH2748> priests<MH2748> said<MH559> to Pharaoh<MH6547>, “This<MH1931> is the finger<MH676> of God<MH430>.” But Pharaoh’s<MH6547> heart<MH3820> was <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>hardened<MH2388>, and he did not listen<MH8085> to them, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had said<MH1696>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Rise<MH7925> early<MH7925> in the morning<MH1242> and present<MH3320> yourself before<MH6440> Pharaoh<MH6547>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>as he comes<MH3318> out<MH3318> to the water<MH4325>; and say<MH559> to him, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “Let<MH7971> My people<MH5971a> go<MH7971>, so that they may serve<MH5647> Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>For if<MH518> you are not going to let<MH7971> My people<MH5971a> go<MH7971>, behold<MH2009>, I will send<MH7971> swarms<MH6157> of<MH6157> flies<MH6157> on you and on your servants<MH5650> and on your people<MH5971a>, and into your houses<MH1004>; and the houses<MH1004> of the Egyptians<MH4714> will be full<MH4390> of swarms<MH6157> of<MH6157> flies<MH6157>, and also<MH1571> the ground<MH127> on which<MH834> they <i>live.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But on that day<MH3117> I will set<MH6395> apart<MH6395> the land<MH776> of Goshen<MH1657>, where<MH834> My people<MH5971a> are <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>living<MH5975>, so that no<MH1115> swarms<MH6157> of<MH6157> flies<MH6157> will be there<MH8033>, in<MH4616> order<MH4616> that<MH4616> you may know<MH3045> that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>I, the LORD<MH3068>, am in the midst<MH7130> of the land<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>I will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>put<MH7760> a division<MH6304> between<MH996> My people<MH5971a> and your people<MH5971a>. Tomorrow<MH4279> this<MH2088> sign<MH226> will occur<MH1961>.”’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> did<MH6213a> so<MH3651>. And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>thick<MH3515> swarms<MH6157> of<MH6157> flies<MH6157> entered<MH935> the house<MH1004> of Pharaoh<MH6547> and the houses<MH1004> of his servants<MH5650>, and the land<MH776> was laid<MH7843> waste<MH7843> because<MH4480, 6440> of the swarms<MH6157> of<MH6157> flies<MH6157> in all<MH3605> the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then Pharaoh<MH6547> called<MH7121> for Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175> and said<MH559>, “Go<MH1980>, sacrifice<MH2076> to your God<MH430> within the land<MH776>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>But Moses<MH4872> said<MH559>, “It is<MH3559> not permissible<MH3559> <i>for us</i> to do<MH6213a> so<MH3651>, because<MH3588> we will sacrifice<MH2076> to the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>that which is an abomination<MH8441> to the Egyptians<MH4714>. If<MH2005> we sacrifice<MH2076> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>that which is an abomination<MH8441> to the Egyptians<MH4714> before their eyes<MH5869>, will they not stone<MH5619> us? <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>We must go<MH1980> a three<MH7969> days’<MH3117> journey<MH1870> into the wilderness<MH4057b> and sacrifice<MH2076> to the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> He <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>commands<MH559> us.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/8-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Pharaoh<MH6547> said<MH559>, “I will let<MH7971> you go<MH7971>, so that you may sacrifice<MH2076> to the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> in the wilderness<MH4057b>; only<MH7534b> you shall not go<MH1980> very<MH7368> far<MH7368> away.
