And his mother’s<MH517> name<MH8034> was Athaliah<MH6271>, the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>granddaughter<MH1323> of Omri<MH6018>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/22-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>He also<MH1571> walked<MH1980> in the ways<MH1870> of the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256>, for his mother<MH517> was his counselor<MH3289> to act<MH7561> wickedly<MH7561>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/22-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>So he did<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068> like the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256>, for they were his counselors<MH3289> after<MH310> the death<MH4194> of his father<MH1>, to his own destruction<MH4889>. <p class="hdg">Ahaziah Allies with Jehoram of Israel</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/22-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>He also<MH1571> walked<MH1980> by their counsel<MH6098>, and went<MH1980> with Jehoram<MH3088> the son<MH1121> of Ahab<MH256> king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478> to wage<MH4421> war<MH4421> against<MH5921> Hazael<MH2371> king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> at Ramoth-gilead<MH7433>. But the Arameans<MH761> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>wounded<MH5221> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Joram<MH3141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/22-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>So he returned<MH7725> to be healed<MH7495> in Jezreel<MH3157> of the wounds<MH4347> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>which<MH834> they had inflicted<MH5221> on him at Ramah<MH7414>, when he fought<MH3898a> against<MH854> Hazael<MH2371> king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758>. And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>Ahaziah<MH274>, the son<MH1121> of Jehoram<MH3088> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>, went<MH3381> down<MH3381> to see<MH7200> Jehoram<MH3088> the son<MH1121> of Ahab<MH256> in Jezreel<MH3157>, because<MH3588> he was<MH2470a> sick<MH2470a>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/22-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Now the destruction<MH8395> of Ahaziah<MH274> was from God<MH430>, in that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>he went<MH935> to Joram<MH3141>. For when he arrived<MH935>, he went<MH3318> out<MH3318> with Jehoram<MH3088> against<MH413> Jehu<MH3058> the son<MH1121> of Nimshi<MH5250>, whom<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> had anointed<MH4886> to eliminate<MH3772> the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256>. <p class="hdg">Jehu Murders Princes of Judah</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/22-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And it came<MH1961> about<MH1961>, when Jehu<MH3058> was executing<MH8199> judgment<MH8199> on the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256>, that he found<MH4672> the princes<MH8269> of Judah<MH3063> and the sons<MH1121> of Ahaziah’s<MH274> brothers<MH251> attending<MH8334> to Ahaziah<MH274>, and killed<MH2026> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/22-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>He also searched<MH1245> for Ahaziah<MH274>, and they caught<MH3920> him while he was hiding<MH2244> in Samaria<MH8111>; they brought<MH935> him to Jehu<MH3058>, put<MH4191> him to<MH4191> death<MH4191>, and buried<MH6912> him. For they said<MH559>, “He is the son<MH1121> of Jehoshaphat<MH3092>, who<MH834> sought<MH1875> the LORD<MH3068> with all<MH3605> his heart<MH3824>.” So there<MH369> was<MH369> no<MH369> one<MH369> of the house<MH1004> of Ahaziah<MH274> to retain<MH6113> the power<MH3581b> of the kingdom<MH4467>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/22-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Now when Athaliah<MH6271> the mother<MH517> of Ahaziah<MH274> saw<MH7200> that her son<MH1121> was dead<MH4191>, she rose<MH6965> and eliminated<MH6> all<MH3605> the royal<MH4467> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>children<MH2233> of the house<MH1004> of Judah<MH3063>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/22-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>But Jehoshabeath<MH3090> the king’s<MH4428> daughter<MH1323> took<MH3947> Joash<MH3060> the son<MH1121> of Ahaziah<MH274>, and stole<MH1589> him from among<MH8432> the king’s<MH4428> sons<MH1121> who were being put<MH4191> to<MH4191> death<MH4191>, and placed<MH5414> him and his nurse<MH3243> in the bedroom<MH2315, 4296>.
