In cases where we do not have email contact information for the recipient, we will be in touch with them to make alternate arrangements. The service of complaints will largely occur by courier, except where service is occurring outside of Winnipeg in which case alternate arrangements will be made.</li> <li>Where essential correspondence must be sent out by mail, the Manitoba Human Rights Commission will use the essential mail distribution system established by the Government of Manitoba. For more information, please visit: <a href="news/pdf/mediareleases/mediarelease_nov12_2024.pdf">New decision confirms that Manitoba workplaces must be free from sexual harassment</a></p> <p><strong>December 22, 2023</strong></p> <p class="title">Commission Closed to Public</p> <p>The Manitoba Human Rights Commission will be closed from December 25, 2023 to January 2, 2024. Any inquiries received by email or telephone during this period will be returned in the order they were received starting on January 3, 2024. Please note that it may take us 3-5 business days to return your inquiry. We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season.</p> <p><strong>August 1, 2023</strong></p> <p class="title">Offices Closed on Thursday, August 3, 2023</p> <p>The Manitoba Human Rights Commission’s offices will be closed on Thursday, August 3, 2023 for all staff training. You can access information about human rights at <a href="https://www.manitobahumanrights.ca">www.manitobahumanrights.ca</a>, or contact our offices by email at <a href="mailto:hrc@gov.mb.ca">hrc@gov.mb.ca</a>. You can also leave us a telephone message at (204) 945-3007 or 1-888-884-8681 Toll-free in Manitoba, which we will respond to as soon as possible. We are responsible for administering <em>The Human Rights Code</em>, the provincial law that protects individuals and groups from discrimination.</p> <p>There are human rights laws in every province and territory across Canada and there is also a federal human rights law. These laws all promote the principle that we are entitled to be treated on the basis of our individual merit and should not be subjected to prejudice or stereotypes. These laws ensure that we have equality of opportunity and freedom from discrimination, principles found in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
