a distinct organic inhibitor, namely 2,2'-(piperazine-1,4-diyl)bis(N-(4-bromophenyl)acetamide) (PBRA), was synthesized and characterized using ¹H, ¹³C NMR, and IR spectroscopy. Subsequently, the inhibition effect of PBRA on the corrosion of carbon steel in 1 M HCl was studied using electrochemical measurements such as potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results showed that the inhibition efficiency increased with concentration, reaching 87% at 10-³M. Furthermore, PBRA remained effective at temperatures ranging from 298 to 328 K. The adsorption of the inhibitor onto carbon steel was well described by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Additionally, a correlation between the molecular structure and quantum chemistry indices was established using density functional theory (DFT). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=synthesis" title="synthesis">synthesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corrosion" title=" corrosion"> corrosion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inhibition" title=" inhibition"> inhibition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=piperazine" title=" piperazine"> piperazine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=efficacy" title=" efficacy"> efficacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=isotherm" title=" isotherm"> isotherm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acetamide" title=" acetamide"> acetamide</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/194779/synthesis-electrochemical-and-theoretical-study-of-corrosion-inhibition-on-carbon-steel-in-1m-hcl-medium-by-22-piperazine-14-diylbisn-4-bromophenylacetamide" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/194779.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">6</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> Genetic Variation of Shvicezebuvides Cattle in Tajikistan Based on Microsatellite Markers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Norezzine%20Abdelaziz">Norezzine Abdelaziz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rebouh%20Nazih%20Yacer"> Rebouh Nazih Yacer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kezimana%20Parfait"> Kezimana Parfait</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Parpura%20D.%20I."> Parpura D. Starting with some unstable molecules with excessive energy, a sequence of interactions takes the set to a state of minimum energy. Researchers reported successful application of the algorithm in solving some engineering problems, like the quadratic assignment problem, with superior performance when compared with other optimization algorithms. We adapted this optimization algorithm to the Printed Circuit Board Drilling Problem (PCBDP) towards reducing the drilling time and hence improving the PCB manufacturing throughput. Although the PCBDP can be viewed as instance of the popular Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP), it has some characteristics that would require special attention to the transactions that explore the solution landscape. Experimental test results using the standard CROToolBox are not promising for practically sized problems, while it could find optimal solutions for artificial problems and small benchmarks as a proof of concept. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=evolutionary%20algorithms" title="evolutionary algorithms">evolutionary algorithms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemical%20reaction%20optimization" title=" chemical reaction optimization"> chemical reaction optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=traveling%20salesman" title=" traveling salesman"> traveling salesman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=board%20drilling" title=" board drilling"> board drilling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20797/adapting-the-chemical-reaction-optimization-algorithm-to-the-printed-circuit-board-drilling-problem" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20797.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">519</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> Investigation of Suicide by Poison as a Result of Domestic Violence </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nazih%20Ramadan">Nazih Ramadan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ghada%20Hassabo"> Ghada Hassabo</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background and Aims: Domestic violence and other forms of violence against women and other family members are known to be substantial and widespread, with women more likely than men to be abused mostly by their partner, which is known as gender-based violence. Domestic violence is a major precipitating factor for suicide in many communities especially in our Middle East area. The aim of the study is to show the real relation between suicidal attempts and domestic violence especially in female victims. We tried also through this study to know the most common age at which the abused person attempt suicide, the perpetrator, the educational level of the abused person, and the social level of them. Materials and Methods: In this study, we collect data from 150 victims of suicidal attempts who came to seek medical help at National Poisoning Center. They were asked to answer a preformed questionnaire after giving consent. Results: The study shows that women are at higher risk for suicidal behavior and that suicidal attempt is directly proportionate to low level of education and low social class situation. Conclusion: the study shows the strong relation between attempting suicide and exposure to domestic violence. At the end of this work, we recommend understanding the broad scope and tragic impact of domestic violence; further research is needed concerning domestic violence-related suicide. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cairo" title="Cairo">Cairo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=domestic%20violence" title=" domestic violence"> domestic violence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=domestic%20violence-related%20suicide" title=" domestic violence-related suicide"> domestic violence-related suicide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=violence%20against%20women" title=" violence against women"> violence against women</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48691/investigation-of-suicide-by-poison-as-a-result-of-domestic-violence" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48691.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">286</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> Age and Sex Identification among Egyptian Population Using Fingerprint Ridge Density</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nazih%20Ramadan">Nazih Ramadan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manal%20Mohy-Eldine"> Manal Mohy-Eldine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amani%20Hanoon"> Amani Hanoon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alaa%20Shehab"> Alaa Shehab</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background and Aims: The study of fingerprints is widely used in providing a clue regarding identity. Age and gender identification from fingerprints is an important step in forensic anthropology in order to minimize the list of suspects search. The aim of this study was to determine finger ridge density and patterns among Egyptians, and to estimate age and gender using ridge densities. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 177 randomly-selected healthy Egyptian subjects (90 males and 87 females). They were divided into three age groups; Group (a): from 6-< 12 years, group (b) from 12-< 18 years and group (c) ≥ 18 years. Bilateral digital prints, from every subject, were obtained by the inking procedure. Ridge count per 25 mm² was determined together with assessment of ridge pattern type. Statistical analysis was done with references to different age and sex groups. Results: There was a statistical significant difference in ridge density between the different age groups; where younger ages had significantly higher ridge density than older ages. Females proved to have significantly higher ridge density than males. Also, there was a statistically significant negative correlation between age and ridge density. Ulnar loops were the most frequent pattern among Egyptians then whorls then arches then radial loops. Finally, different regression models were constructed to estimate age and gender from fingerprints ridge density. Conclusion: fingerprint ridge density can be used to identify both age and sex of subjects. Further studies are recommended on different populations, larger samples or using different methods of fingerprint recording and finger ridge counting. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=age" title="age">age</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sex%20identification" title=" sex identification"> sex identification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Egyptian%20population" title=" Egyptian population"> Egyptian population</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fingerprints" title=" fingerprints"> fingerprints</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ridge%20density" title=" ridge density"> ridge density</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48687/age-and-sex-identification-among-egyptian-population-using-fingerprint-ridge-density" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48687.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">365</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Imputation of Incomplete Large-Scale Monitoring Count Data via Penalized Estimation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20%20Dakki">Mohamed Dakki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Genevieve%20Robin"> Genevieve Robin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marie%20Suet"> Marie Suet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdeljebbar%20Qninba"> Abdeljebbar Qninba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20A.%20El%20Agbani"> Mohamed A. These large-scale datasets challenge existing statistical analysis methods, many of which are not adapted to their size, incompleteness and heterogeneity. The development of scalable methods to impute missing data in incomplete large-scale monitoring datasets is crucial to balance sampling in time or space and thus better inform conservation policies. We developed a new method based on penalized Poisson models to impute and analyse incomplete monitoring data in a large-scale framework. The method al- lows parameterization of (a) space and time factors, (b) the main effects of predic- tor covariates, as well as (c) space–time interactions. It also benefits from robust statistical and computational capability in large-scale settings. The method was tested extensively on both simulated and real-life waterbird data, with the findings revealing that it outperforms six existing methods in terms of missing data imputation errors. Applying the method to 16 waterbird species, we estimated their long-term trends for the first time at the entire North African scale, a region where monitoring data suffer from many gaps in space and time series. This new approach opens promising perspectives to increase the accuracy of species-abundance trend estimations. We made it freely available in the r package ‘lori’ (https://CRAN.R-project.org/package=lori) and recommend its use for large- scale count data, particularly in citizen science monitoring programmes.
