And he sought to see Him.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-10.htm#literal"><b>10</b></a></span>The apostles having returned, fully related (described) to Him whatever they had done. And having taken them, He withdrew by Himself into a town called Bethsaida. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-11.htm#literal"><b>11</b></a></span>And the crowds having known it, followed Him; and having received them, He spoke to them concerning the kingdom of God, and he cured (iato- healed) those having necessity of healing (therapeias).<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-12.htm#literal"><b>12</b></a></span>And the day began to decline, and the twelve having come said to Him, Dismiss the crowd, so that having gone into the surrounding villages and countryside they might lodge and might find provisions; because we are in a desolate (wilderness, desert) place here. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-13.htm#literal"><b>13</b></a></span>And He said to them, You give to them to eat. And they said, There are not more than five loaves and two fish to us, unless having gone, we should buy food for (unto) all this people; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-14.htm#literal"><b>14</b></a></span>For they were about five thousand men. And He said to His disciples, Make them sit down in groups of about fifty. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-15.htm#literal"><b>15</b></a></span>And they did so and made all sit down. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-16.htm#literal"><b>16</b></a></span>And having taken the five loaves and two fishes, having looked up unto the heaven, He blessed them and broke and gave to the disciples to set beside the crowd. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-17.htm#literal"><b>17</b></a></span>And they ate and all were satisfied (fed); and there was taken up twelve hand-baskets having been a surplus of fragments to them.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-18.htm#literal"><b>18</b></a></span>And it happened as He was praying in solitary (greek-monas possibly the root of monastery), His disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, Whom do the crowds say Me to be? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-19.htm#literal"><b>19</b></a></span>And answering, they said, John the Baptist; others however, Elijah; and others that a prophet, one of the ancients, has arisen. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-20.htm#literal"><b>20</b></a></span>And He said to them, you however, Who do you say Me to be? And Peter answering, said, The Christ of God.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-21.htm#literal"><b>21</b></a></span>And having strictly warned (censured) them, He commanded them to tell this to no one, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-22.htm#literal"><b>22</b></a></span>Having said, It is necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things; and to be rejected from the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and be raised on the third day.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-23.htm#literal"><b>23</b></a></span>And He said to all, If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny (say no, repudiate, refuse) himself, and let him take up (raise, lift) his cross day by day and let him follow (accompany) Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-24.htm#literal"><b>24</b></a></span>For whoever might want to save his life (soul), will lose it (fully destroy, cut off entirely); and whoever might lose (destroy) his life (soul) on account of Me, he will save it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-25.htm#literal"><b>25</b></a></span>For what is a man benefitted having gained the whole world, and having destroyed (lost) or having suffered the loss of (experienced loss of, forfeited) himself? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-26.htm#literal"><b>26</b></a></span>For whoever might have been ashamed of Me and My words, him the Son of Man will be ashamed of, when He shall come in His glory, and of the Father, and of the holy angels. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-27.htm#literal"><b>27</b></a></span>And I say to you truthfully, there are some of those here standing who shall not taste of death, until they shall have seen the kingdom of God.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-28.htm#literal"><b>28</b></a></span>And it happened after these words, about eight days, and having taken Peter and John and James, He went up onto the mountain to pray. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-29.htm#literal"><b>29</b></a></span>And it happened in His praying, the appearance (sight, visible form) of His face was different, and His clothing became dazzling (gleaming, flashing forth like lightning, latin-refulgens-bright) white. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-30.htm#literal"><b>30</b></a></span>And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-31.htm#literal"><b>31</b></a></span>Who having appeared in glory, spoke of His departure (exodus, exit), which He was about to fulfill in Jerusalem. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-32.htm#literal"><b>32</b></a></span>And Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep; and having fully awoken they saw His glory and the two men standing with Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-33.htm#literal"><b>33</b></a></span>And it happened in their departing (withdrawing, separating) away from Him, Peter said to Jesus, Master-in-charge, it is good (kalon) for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah; not knowing what he is saying. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-34.htm#literal"><b>34</b></a></span>And as he is saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they feared in their entering into the cloud. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-35.htm#literal"><b>35</b></a></span>And a voice came from out of the cloud, saying, This is My Son, whom I have chosen; Listen to Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-36.htm#literal"><b>36</b></a></span>And as the voice occurred, Jesus was found alone. And they were silent and they told to no one in those days anything of what they have seen.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-37.htm#literal"><b>37</b></a></span>And it happened the next day, on having come down from the mountain, a great crowd met with Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-38.htm#literal"><b>38</b></a></span>And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, saying, Teacher, I implore you to look upon my son, because he is an only child to me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-39.htm#literal"><b>39</b></a></span>And behold, a spirit takes him, and suddenly he cries out, and it throws him into convulsions with foaming and departs away from him with difficulty, bruising him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-40.htm#literal"><b>40</b></a></span>And I begged Your disciples so that they might cast it out, and they were not able. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-41.htm#literal"><b>41</b></a></span>And answering, Jesus said, O unbelieving and distorted generation, until when will I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-42.htm#literal"><b>42</b></a></span>And while he was coming near, the demon threw him down and threw him into convulsions. And Jesus censured the unclean spirit and healed (iasato) the boy and gave him back to his father.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-43.htm#literal"><b>43</b></a></span>And all were astounded upon the majesty of God. And all were wondering upon all which He did; He said to His disciples, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-44.htm#literal"><b>44</b></a></span>Let these words be set into your ears: for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-45.htm#literal"><b>45</b></a></span>However they did not know (were ignorant of) this saying (rhema), and it was veiled (concealed) from them, so that they should not perceive it. And they feared to ask Him concerning this saying (rhematos).<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-46.htm#literal"><b>46</b></a></span>And a dialogue came up among them, who might be greatest of them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-47.htm#literal"><b>47</b></a></span>However Jesus having known the dialoguing of their heart, having taken hold upon a child, He set it beside Him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-48.htm#literal"><b>48</b></a></span>And said to them, Whoever shall receive this child upon My name, receives Me, and whoever shall receive Me, receives the One having sent Me. For the one being least among all you, he shall be great.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-49.htm#literal"><b>49</b></a></span>And answering, John said, Master-in-charge, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him, because he does not follow with us. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-50.htm#literal"><b>50</b></a></span>And Jesus said to him, Forbid not; for who is not against us is for (by, under) us.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-51.htm#literal"><b>51</b></a></span>And it happened in the completing of the days of His ascension, and He firmly fixed His face to go unto Jerusalem. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-52.htm#literal"><b>52</b></a></span>And He sent messengers before His face. And having gone, they entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to make ready for Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-53.htm#literal"><b>53</b></a></span>And they did not receive Him, because His face was as going unto Jerusalem. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-54.htm#literal"><b>54</b></a></span>And having seen it, the disciples James and John said, Lord, will You that we should call fire to come down away from heaven and consume (destroy, annihilate) them? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-55.htm#literal"><b>55</b></a></span>And having turned, He censured them, {and said, You do not know of what spirit you are.} <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-56.htm#literal"><b>56</b></a></span>{For the Son of Man did not come to destroy the lives (souls) of men, but to save.} And they went unto another village.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-57.htm#literal"><b>57</b></a></span>And they were going on (in) the way, someone said to Him, I will follow You wherever You might go. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-58.htm#literal"><b>58</b></a></span>And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes (burrows, dens) and the birds of the heaven nests (dwelling-places); however the Son of Man has not where He might recline (rest, latin-reclinet-recline) His head. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/9-59.htm#literal"><b>59</b></a></span>And He said to another, Follow Me.
