Once Andronikos I became regent however, Andronikos Angelos entered into a conspiracy with the megas doux <a href="/wiki/Andronikos_Kontostephanos" title="Andronikos Kontostephanos">Andronikos Kontostephanos</a>, the <a href="/wiki/Logothetes_tou_dromou" title="Logothetes tou dromou">postal logothete</a> and a number of other officials. He fled to the <a href="/wiki/Kingdom_of_Jerusalem" title="Kingdom of Jerusalem">Kingdom of Jerusalem</a> when Andronikos I uncovered the plot.</li> <li><a href="/wiki/John_Komnenos_Vatatzes" title="John Komnenos Vatatzes">John Komnenos Vatatzes</a> (1183) – governor of the <a href="/wiki/Thracesian_theme" class="mw-redirect" title="Thracesian theme">Thracesian theme</a>, he objected to the rise of <a href="/wiki/Andronikos_I_Komnenos" title="Andronikos I Komnenos">Andronikos Komnenos</a>. He rebelled at <a href="/wiki/Ala%C5%9Fehir" title="Alaşehir">Philadelphia</a> and defeated the forces of Andronikos and Alexios II led by <a href="/wiki/Andronikos_Lampardas" class="mw-redirect" title="Andronikos Lampardas">Andronikos Lampardas</a> but died a few days later of natural causes.</li> <li>Theodore Angelos (1183–1184) - the son of <a href="/wiki/Andronikos_Doukas_Angelos" class="mw-redirect" title="Andronikos Doukas Angelos">Andronikos Doukas Angelos</a>, he and his brother <a href="/wiki/Isaac_II_Angelos" title="Isaac II Angelos">Isaac Angelos</a> returned from <a href="/wiki/Palestine_(region)" title="Palestine (region)">Palestine</a> and launched a rebellion at <a href="/wiki/%C4%B0znik" title="İznik">Nicaea</a> against the regent Andronikos, prompting him to become co-emperor alongside Alexios II. In early 1184, Andronikos I captured Nicaea after Isaac surrendered the city to him. He was crowned emperor and brutally terrorised the island.
