In this research, an advanced numerical model has been presented to predict the complete elastic-plastic behavior of polymer concrete (PC), high-strength concrete (HSC), high performance concrete (HPC) along with different steel fiber contents under uniaxial compression. The accuracy of the numerical response was satisfactory as compared to other conventional simple models such as Mohr-Coulomb and Drucker-Prager. In order to predict the complete elastic-plastic behavior of specimens including softening behavior, disturbed state concept (DSC) was implemented by nonlinear finite element analysis (NFEA) and hierarchical single surface (HISS) failure criterion, which is a failure surface without any singularity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=disturbed%20state%20concept%20%28DSC%29" title="disturbed state concept (DSC)">disturbed state concept (DSC)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hierarchical%20single%20surface%20%28HISS%29%20failure%20criterion" title=" hierarchical single surface (HISS) failure criterion"> hierarchical single surface (HISS) failure criterion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20performance%20concrete%20%28HPC%29" title=" high performance concrete (HPC)"> high performance concrete (HPC)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high-strength%20concrete%20%28HSC%29" title=" high-strength concrete (HSC)"> high-strength concrete (HSC)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20finite%20element%20analysis%20%28NFEA%29" title=" nonlinear finite element analysis (NFEA)"> nonlinear finite element analysis (NFEA)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polymer%20concrete%20%28PC%29" title=" polymer concrete (PC)"> polymer concrete (PC)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=steel%20fibers" title=" steel fibers"> steel fibers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uniaxial%20compression%20test" title=" uniaxial compression test"> uniaxial compression test</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54649/constitutive-modeling-of-different-types-of-concrete-under-uniaxial-compression" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54649.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">311</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13693</span> Understanding Surface Failures in Thick Asphalt Pavement: A 3-D Finite Element Model Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hana%20Gebremariam%20Liliso">Hana Gebremariam Liliso</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study investigates the factors contributing to the deterioration of thick asphalt pavements, such as rutting and cracking. We focus on the combined influence of traffic loads and pavement structure. This study uses a three-dimensional finite element model with a Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion to analyze the stress levels near the pavement's surface under realistic conditions. Our model considers various factors, including tire-pavement contact stresses, asphalt properties, moving loads, and dynamic analysis. This research suggests that cracking tends to occur between dual tires. Some key discoveries include the risk of cracking increases as temperatures rise; surface cracking at high temperatures is associated with distortional deformation; using a uniform contact stress distribution underestimates the risk of failure compared to realistic three-dimensional tire contact stress, particularly at high temperatures; the risk of failure is higher near the surface when there is a negative temperature gradient in the asphalt layer; and debonding beneath the surface layer leads to increased shear stress and premature failure around the interface. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asphalt%20pavement" title="asphalt pavement">asphalt pavement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20failure" title=" surface failure"> surface failure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3d%20finite%20element%20model" title=" 3d finite element model"> 3d finite element model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multiaxial%20stress%20states" title=" multiaxial stress states"> multiaxial stress states</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohr-Coulomb%20failure%20criterion" title=" Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion"> Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/182482/understanding-surface-failures-in-thick-asphalt-pavement-a-3-d-finite-element-model-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/182482.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">59</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13692</span> A New Criterion for Removal of Fouling Deposit</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=D.%20B%C3%A4cker">D. They hold great properties like the high surface-to-volume ratio and well-ordered porous structures, which can be very challenging to attain for other mono-morphological nanostructures. Well-ordered hierarchical nanostructures with high surface-to-volume ratios facilitate gas diffusion into their surfaces as well as scattering of light. Therefore, hierarchical nanostructures are expected to perform highly as gas sensors. A multistage controlled hydrothermal synthesis method to fabricate high-performance single ZnO brushlike hierarchical nanostructure gas sensor from initial nanowires is reported. The performance of the sensor based on brush-like hierarchical nanostructure is analyzed and compared to that of a nanowire gas sensor. The hierarchical gas sensor demonstrated high sensitivity toward low concentration of acetone at high speed of response. The enhancement in the hierarchical sensor performance is attributed to the increased surface to volume ratio, reduction in dimensionality of the nanowire building blocks, formation of junctions between the initial nanowire and the secondary nanowires, and enhanced gas diffusion into the surfaces of the hierarchical nanostructures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metal%20oxide" title="metal oxide">metal oxide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanostructure" title=" nanostructure"> nanostructure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydrothermal" title=" hydrothermal"> hydrothermal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensor" title=" sensor"> sensor</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50686/hydrothermally-fabricated-3-d-nanostructure-metal-oxide-sensors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50686.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">272</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13690</span> New Stress Instability Workability Criteria for Internal Ductile Failure in Steel Cold Heading</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amar%20Sabih">Amar Sabih</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=James%20Nemes"> James Nemes</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The occurrence of internal ductile failure within the Adiabatic Shear Band (ASB) in cold-headed products presents a significant barrier in the fast-expanding cold-heading (CH) industry. Created fracture process zone (FPZ) in crack tip vicinity has important effect on failure of cracked composite materials. In this paper, a failure criterion for fracture investigation of cracked wood specimens under mixed mode I/II loading is presented. This criterion is based on maximum strain energy release rate and material nonlinearity in the vicinity of crack tip due to presence of microcracks. Verification of results with available experimental data proves the coincidence of the proposed criterion with the nature of fracture of wood. To simplify the estimation of nonlinear properties of FPZ, a damage factor is also introduced for engineering and application purposes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fracture%20criterion" title="fracture criterion">fracture criterion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mixed%20mode%20loading" title=" mixed mode loading"> mixed mode loading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damage%20zone" title=" damage zone"> damage zone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro%20cracks" title=" micro cracks"> micro cracks</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72822/failure-criterion-for-mixed-mode-fracture-of-cracked-wood-specimens" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72822.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">298</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13687</span> Extracting the Failure Criterion to Evaluate the Strength of Cracked Drills under Torque Caused by Drilling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Falsafi">A. In such a situation, the strength and load bearing capacity of the drill are evaluated based on the principles of fracture mechanics and crack growth criteria. In this paper, using the three-dimensional stress equations around the Turkish frontier, the relations of the tense-tense criterion (MTS) are extracted for the loading of the combined II and III modulus. It is shown that in crisp deflection under loading of combination II and III, the level of fracture is characterized by two different angles: the longitudinal angle of deflection θ and the angle of the deflection of the alpha. Based on the relationships obtained from the MTS criterion, the failure criteria, the longitudinal angle of the theta failure and the lateral angle of the failure of the alpha are presented. Also, the role of Poisson's coefficient on these parameters is investigated in these graphs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=most%20tangential%20tension%20criterion" title="most tangential tension criterion">most tangential tension criterion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=longitudinal%20angle%20of%20failure" title=" longitudinal angle of failure"> longitudinal angle of failure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=side%20angle%20of%20fracture" title=" side angle of fracture"> side angle of fracture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drills%20crack" title=" drills crack"> drills crack</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/101747/extracting-the-failure-criterion-to-evaluate-the-strength-of-cracked-drills-under-torque-caused-by-drilling" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/101747.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">133</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13686</span> Hierarchical Surface Inspired by Lotus-Leaf for Electrical Generators from Waterdrop</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jaewook%20Ha">Jaewook Ha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jin-beak%20Kim"> Jin-beak Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seongmin%20Kim"> Seongmin Kim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to solve global warming and climate change issues, increased efforts have been devoted towards clean and sustainable energy sources as well as new energy generating devices. Nanogenerator is a device that converts mechanical/thermal energy as produced by small-scale physical change into electricity. Here we propose that nature-leaf surface could be used for preparation of a triboelectric nanogenerator. The nature-leaf surface consists of polydimethylsiloxane microscale pillars and polytetrafluoroethylene nanoparticles. Interaction between the nature-leaf surface and water was studied and the electrical outputs from the motion of single water drop were measured. A 40-μL water drop can generate a peak voltage of 1 V and a peak current of 0.7 μA. This nanogenerator might be used to drive electric devices in the outdoor environments in a sustainable manner. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hierarchical%20surface" title="hierarchical surface">hierarchical surface</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lotus-leaf" title=" lotus-leaf"> lotus-leaf</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrical%20generator" title=" electrical generator"> electrical generator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=waterdrop" title=" waterdrop"> waterdrop</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36939/hierarchical-surface-inspired-by-lotus-leaf-for-electrical-generators-from-waterdrop" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36939.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">293</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13685</span> Breaking Stress Criterion that Changes Everything We Know About Materials Failure</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Nour%20El%20Hajj">Ali Nour El Hajj</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: The perennial deficiencies of the failure models in the materials field have profoundly and significantly impacted all associated technical fields that depend on accurate failure predictions. Many preeminent and well-known scientists from an earlier era of groundbreaking discoveries attempted to solve the issue of material failure. However, a thorough understanding of material failure has been frustratingly elusive. Objective: The heart of this study is the presentation of a methodology that identifies a newly derived one-parameter criterion as the only general failure theory for noncompressible, homogeneous, and isotropic materials subjected to multiaxial states of stress and various boundary conditions, providing the solution to this longstanding problem. This theory is the counterpart and companion piece to the theory of elasticity and is in a formalism that is suitable for broad application. Methods: Utilizing advanced finite-element analysis, the maximum internal breaking stress corresponding to the maximum applied external force is identified as a unified and universal material failure criterion for determining the structural capacity of any system, regardless of its geometry or architecture. Results: A comparison between the proposed criterion and methodology against design codes reveals that current provisions may underestimate the structural capacity by 2.17 times or overestimate the capacity by 2.096 times. It also shows that existing standards may underestimate the structural capacity by 1.4 times or overestimate the capacity by 2.49 times. Conclusion: The proposed failure criterion and methodology will pave the way for a new era in designing unconventional structural systems composed of unconventional materials. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=failure%20criteria" title="failure criteria">failure criteria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strength%20theory" title=" strength theory"> strength theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=failure%20mechanics" title=" failure mechanics"> failure mechanics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=materials%20mechanics" title=" materials mechanics"> materials mechanics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rock%20mechanics" title=" rock mechanics"> rock mechanics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=concrete%20strength" title=" concrete strength"> concrete strength</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite-element%20analysis" title=" finite-element analysis"> finite-element analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20engineering" title=" mechanical engineering"> mechanical engineering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aeronautical%20engineering" title=" aeronautical engineering"> aeronautical engineering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=civil%20engineering" title=" civil engineering"> civil engineering</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/167552/breaking-stress-criterion-that-changes-everything-we-know-about-materials-failure" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/167552.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">80</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13684</span> Solution of S3 Problem of Deformation Mechanics for a Definite Condition and Resulting Modifications of Important Failure Theories</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ranajay%20Bhowmick">Ranajay Bhowmick</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Analysis of stresses for an infinitesimal tetrahedron leads to a situation where we obtain a cubic equation consisting of three stress invariants. This cubic equation, when solved for a definite condition, gives the principal stresses directly without requiring any cumbersome and time-consuming trial and error methods or iterative numerical procedures. Since the failure criterion of different materials are generally expressed as functions of principal stresses, an attempt has been made in this study to incorporate the solutions of the cubic equation in the form of principal stresses, obtained for a definite condition, into some of the established failure theories to determine their modified descriptions. It has been observed that the failure theories can be represented using the quadratic stress invariant and the orientation of the principal plane. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cubic%20equation" title="cubic equation">cubic equation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stress%20invariant" title=" stress invariant"> stress invariant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trigonometric" title=" trigonometric"> trigonometric</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=explicit%20solution" title=" explicit solution"> explicit solution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=principal%20stress" title=" principal stress"> principal stress</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=failure%20criterion" title=" failure criterion"> failure criterion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128515/solution-of-s3-problem-of-deformation-mechanics-for-a-definite-condition-and-resulting-modifications-of-important-failure-theories" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128515.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">137</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13683</span> Strain Based Failure Criterion for Composite Notched Laminates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ibrahim%20A.%20Elsayed">Ibrahim A. The proposed criterion will simplify the design of composites to meet notched failure requirements by eliminating the need for the detailed specifications of the stacking sequence at the preliminary design stage. The designer will be able to design based on the stiffness of the laminate, then at a later stage, select an appropriate stacking sequence to meet the stiffness requirements. The failure strains for the notched laminates are computed using the material’s Omni-strain envelope. The concept of Omni-strain envelope concerns the region of average strain where the laminate is safe regardless of ply orientation. In this work, we use Hashin’s failure criteria and the strains around the hole are computed using Savin’s analytic solution. A progressive damage analysis study has been conducted where the failure loads for the notched laminates are computed using finite element analysis. The failure strains are computed and used to estimate the concentration factor. It is found that the correlation found using Savin’s analytic solution predicts the same ratio of concentration factors between anisotropic and quasi-isotropic laminates as the more expensive progressive failure analysis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anisotropy%20ratio" title="anisotropy ratio">anisotropy ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=failure%20criteria" title=" failure criteria"> failure criteria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=notched%20laminates" title=" notched laminates"> notched laminates</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Omni-strain%20envelope" title=" Omni-strain envelope"> Omni-strain envelope</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=savin%E2%80%99s%20solution" title=" savin’s solution"> savin’s solution</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145259/strain-based-failure-criterion-for-composite-notched-laminates" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145259.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">116</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13682</span> Development of Antibacterial Surface Based on Bio-Inspired Hierarchical Surface</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.Ayazi">M.Ayazi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=N.%20Golshan%20Ebrahimi"> N. In this study, leveraging the nonlinear Hoek-Brown failure criterion and the upper-bound theorem, an analytical solution for the collapse surface of shallowly buried circular tunnels was derived, taking into account the coupled effects of surface loads and pore water pressures. Initially, surface loads and pore water pressures were introduced as external force factors, equating the energy dissipation rate to the external force, yielding our objective function. Subsequently, the variational method was employed for optimization, and the outcomes were juxtaposed with previous research findings. Furthermore, we utilized the deduced equation set to systematically analyze the influence of various rock mass parameters on collapse shape and extent. To validate our analytical solutions, a comparison with prior studies was executed. The corroboration underscored the efficacy of our proposed methodology, offering invaluable insights for collapse risk assessment in practical engineering applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tunnel%20roof%20stability" title="tunnel roof stability">tunnel roof stability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=analytical%20solution" title=" analytical solution"> analytical solution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hoek%E2%80%93brown%20failure%20criterion" title=" hoek–brown failure criterion"> hoek–brown failure criterion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=limit%20analysis" title=" limit analysis"> limit analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174775/analytical-solutions-for-tunnel-collapse-mechanisms-in-circular-cross-section-tunnels-under-seepage-and-seismic-forces" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174775.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13680</span> The Problems of Current Earth Coordinate System for Earthquake Forecasting Using Single Layer Hierarchical Graph Neuron</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benny%20Benyamin%20Nasution">Benny Benyamin Nasution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rahmat%20Widia%20Sembiring"> Rahmat Widia Sembiring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Rahman%20Dalimunthe"> Abdul Rahman Dalimunthe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nursiah%20Mustari"> Nursiah Mustari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nisfan%20Bahri"> Nisfan Bahri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Berta%20br%20Ginting"> Berta br Ginting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Riadil%20Akhir%20Lubis"> Riadil Akhir Lubis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rita%20Tavip%20Megawati"> Rita Tavip Megawati</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Indri%20Dithisari"> Indri Dithisari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The earth coordinate system is an important part of an attempt for earthquake forecasting, such as the one using Single Layer Hierarchical Graph Neuron (SLHGN). However, there are a number of problems that need to be worked out before the coordinate system can be utilized for the forecaster. One example of those is that SLHGN requires that the focused area of an earthquake must be constructed in a grid-like form. In fact, within the current earth coordinate system, the same longitude-difference would produce different distances. This can be observed at the distance on the Equator compared to distance at both poles. To deal with such a problem, a coordinate system has been developed, so that it can be used to support the ongoing earthquake forecasting using SLHGN. Two important issues have been developed in this system: 1) each location is not represented through two-value (longitude and latitude), but only a single value, 2) the conversion of the earth coordinate system to the x-y cartesian system requires no angular formulas, which is therefore fast. The accuracy and the performance have not been measured yet, since earthquake data is difficult to obtain. However, the characteristics of the SLHGN results show a very promising answer. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hierarchical%20graph%20neuron" title="hierarchical graph neuron">hierarchical graph neuron</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multidimensional%20hierarchical%20graph%20neuron" title=" multidimensional hierarchical graph neuron"> multidimensional hierarchical graph neuron</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=single%20layer%20hierarchical%20graph%20neuron" title=" single layer hierarchical graph neuron"> single layer hierarchical graph neuron</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20disaster%20forecasting" title=" natural disaster forecasting"> natural disaster forecasting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=earthquake%20forecasting" title=" earthquake forecasting"> earthquake forecasting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=earth%20coordinate%20system" title=" earth coordinate system"> earth coordinate system</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118471/the-problems-of-current-earth-coordinate-system-for-earthquake-forecasting-using-single-layer-hierarchical-graph-neuron" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118471.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">216</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13679</span> Proposing a Failure Criterion for Cohesionless Media Considering Cyclic Fabric Anisotropy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Noorzad">Ali Noorzad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ehsan%20Badakhshan"> Ehsan Badakhshan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shima%20Zameni"> Shima Zameni</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present paper is focused on a generalized failure criterion for geomaterials with cross-anisotropy. The cyclic behavior of granular material primarily depends on the nature and arrangement of constituent particles, particle size, and shape that affect fabric anisotropy. To account for the influence of loading directions on strength variations, an anisotropic variable in terms of the invariants of the stress tensor and fabric into the failure criterion is proposed. In an extension to original CANAsand constitutive model two concepts namely critical state and compact state play paramount roles as all of the moduli and coefficients are related to these states. The applicability of the present model is evaluated through comparisons between the predicted and the measured results. Of these properties, we focused on the effects of nano- to micro-sized hierarchical surface. To fabricate the hierarchical surface structure on poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) film, we employed a micro-casting technique by pressing the mold and nano-etching technique using a modified plasma process. The micro-sized topography of PCL film was controlled by sizes of the micro structures on lotus leaf. Also, the nano-sized topography and hydrophilicity of PCL film were controlled by a modified plasma process. After the plasma treatment, the hydrophobic property of the PCL film was significantly changed into hydrophilic property, and the nano-sized structure was well developed. The surface properties of the modified PCL film were investigated in terms of initial cell morphology, attachment, and proliferation using osteoblast-like-cells (MG63). In particular, initial cell attachment, proliferation and osteogenic differentiation in the hierarchical structure were enhanced dramatically compared to those of the smooth surface. We believe that these results are because of a synergistic effect between the hierarchical structure and the reactive functional groups due to the plasma process. Based on the results presented here, we propose a new biomimetic surface model that maybe useful for effectively regenerating hard tissues. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hierarchical%20surface" title="hierarchical surface">hierarchical surface</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lotus%20leaf" title=" lotus leaf"> lotus leaf</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nano-etching" title=" nano-etching"> nano-etching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plasma%20treatment" title=" plasma treatment"> plasma treatment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40656/the-effect-of-micronano-structure-of-poly-e-caprolactone-pcl-film-using-a-two-step-process-castingplasma-on-cellular-responses" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40656.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">377</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13677</span> A Failure Investigations of High-Temperature Hydrogen Attack at Plat Forming Unit Furnace Elbow</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Altoumi%20Alndalusi">Altoumi Alndalusi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> High-temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA) failure is the common phenomena at elevated temperature in hydrogen environment in oil and gas field. This study concluded that the main reason led to failure due to incorrect material selection comparing to the platforming conditions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decarburization" title="decarburization">decarburization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=failure" title=" failure"> failure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20affected%20zone" title=" heat affected zone"> heat affected zone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphology" title=" morphology"> morphology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=partial%20pressure" title=" partial pressure"> partial pressure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plate%20form" title=" plate form"> plate form</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97396/a-failure-investigations-of-high-temperature-hydrogen-attack-at-plat-forming-unit-furnace-elbow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97396.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">156</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13676</span> A Conceptual Framework for Assessing the Development of Health Information Systems Enterprise Architecture Interoperability</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Prosper%20Tafadzwa%20Denhere">Prosper Tafadzwa Denhere</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ephias%20Ruhode"> Ephias Ruhode</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Munyaradzi%20Zhou"> Munyaradzi Zhou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Health Information Systems (HISs) interoperability is emerging to be the future of modern healthcare systems Enterprise Architecture (EA), where healthcare entities are seamlessly interconnected to share healthcare data. The reality that the healthcare industry has been characterised by an influx of fragmented stand-alone e-Health systems, which present challenges of healthcare information sharing across platforms, desires much attention for systems integration efforts. The lack of an EA conceptual framework resultantly crates the need for investigating an ideal solution to the objective of Health Information Systems interoperability development assessment. The study takes a qualitative exploratory approach through a design science research context. The research aims to study the various themes withdrawn from the literature that can help in the assessment of interoperable HISs development through a literature study. Themes derived from the study include HIS needs, HIS readiness, HIS constraints, and HIS technology integration elements and standards tied to the EA development architectural layers of The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) as an EA development methodology. Eventually, the themes were conceptualised into a framework reviewed by two experts. The essence of the study was to provide a framework within which interoperable EA of HISs should be developed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=enterprise%20architecture" title="enterprise architecture">enterprise architecture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eHealth" title=" eHealth"> eHealth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20information%20systems" title=" health information systems"> health information systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interoperability" title=" interoperability"> interoperability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148997/a-conceptual-framework-for-assessing-the-development-of-health-information-systems-enterprise-architecture-interoperability" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148997.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">105</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13675</span> Investigation on the stability of rock slopes subjected to tension cracks via limit analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Weigao.%20Wu">Weigao. In deployable bridging, replacing metals as the fabricating material with advanced composite laminates as lighter alternatives with higher strength is highly advantageous. This article presents a hierarchical optimization strategy of a composite bridge treadway considering maximum strength design and bridge weight minimization. Shape optimization of a generic deployable bridge beam cross-section is performed to achieve better stress distribution over the bridge treadway hull. The developed cross-section weight is minimized up to reserving the margins of safety of the deployable bridging code provisions. Hence, the strength of composite bridge plates is maximized through varying the plies orientation. Different loading cases are considered of a tracked vehicle patch load. The orthotropic plate properties of a composite sandwich core are used to simulate the bridge deck structural behavior. Whereas, the failure analysis is conducted using Tsai-Wu failure criterion. The naturally inspired particle swarm optimization technique is used in this study. The proposed technique efficiently reduced the weight to capacity ratio of the developed bridge beam. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CFRP%20deployable%20bridges" title="CFRP deployable bridges">CFRP deployable bridges</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=disaster%20relief" title=" disaster relief"> disaster relief</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=military%20bridging" title=" military bridging"> military bridging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization%20of%20composites" title=" optimization of composites"> optimization of composites</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20swarm%20optimization" title=" particle swarm optimization"> particle swarm optimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102352/hierarchical-optimization-of-composite-deployable-bridge-treadway-using-particle-swarm-optimization" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102352.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">141</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13673</span> The Use of Layered Neural Networks for Classifying Hierarchical Scientific Fields of Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Colin%20Smith">Colin Smith</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Linsey%20S%20Passarella"> Linsey S Passarella</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Due to the proliferation and decentralized nature of academic publication, no widely accepted scheme exists for organizing papers by their scientific field of study (FoS) to the author’s best knowledge. While many academic journals require author provided keywords for papers, these keywords range wildly in scope and are not consistent across papers, journals, or field domains, necessitating alternative approaches to paper classification. Past attempts to perform field-of-study (FoS) classification on scientific texts have largely used a-hierarchical FoS schemas or ignored the schema’s inherently hierarchical structure, e.g. by compressing the structure into a single layer for multi-label classification. In this paper, we introduce an application of a Layered Neural Network (LNN) to the problem of performing supervised hierarchical classification of scientific fields of study (FoS) on research papers. In this approach, paper embeddings from a pretrained language model are fed into a top-down LNN. Beginning with a single neural network (NN) for the highest layer of the class hierarchy, each node uses a separate local NN to classify the subsequent subfield child node(s) for an input embedding of concatenated paper titles and abstracts. We compare our LNN-FOS method to other recent machine learning methods using the Microsoft Academic Graph (MAG) FoS hierarchy and find that the LNN-FOS offers increased classification accuracy at each FoS hierarchical level. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hierarchical%20classification" title="hierarchical classification">hierarchical classification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=layer%20neural%20network" title=" layer neural network"> layer neural network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scientific%20field%20of%20study" title=" scientific field of study"> scientific field of study</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scientific%20taxonomy" title=" scientific taxonomy"> scientific taxonomy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151193/the-use-of-layered-neural-networks-for-classifying-hierarchical-scientific-fields-of-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151193.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">133</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13672</span> A Criterion for Evaluating Plastic Loads: Plastic Work-Tangent Criterion</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ying%20Zhang">Ying Zhang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the plastic load is defined by applying the twice elastic slope (TES) criterion of plastic collapse to a characteristic load-deformation curve for the vessel. Several other plastic criterion such as tangent intersection (TI) criterion, plastic work (PW) criterion have been proposed in the literature, but all exhibit a practical limitation: difficult to define the load parameter for vessels subject to several combined loads. An alternative criterion: plastic work-tangent (PWT) criterion for evaluating plastic load in pressure vessel design by analysis is presented in this paper. According to the plastic work-load curve, when the tangent variation is less than a given value in the plastic phase, the corresponding load is the plastic load. Application of the proposed criterion is illustrated by considering the elastic-plastic response of the lower head of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) and nozzle intersection of (RPV). It is proposed that this is because the PWT criterion more fully represents the constraining effect of material strain hardening on the spread of plastic deformation and more efficiently ton evaluating the plastic load. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plastic%20load" title="plastic load">plastic load</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plastic%20work" title=" plastic work"> plastic work</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strain%20hardening" title=" strain hardening"> strain hardening</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plastic%20work-tangent%20criterion" title=" plastic work-tangent criterion"> plastic work-tangent criterion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59204/a-criterion-for-evaluating-plastic-loads-plastic-work-tangent-criterion" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59204.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">355</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13671</span> The Role of Physically Adsorbing Species of Oxyhydryl Reagents in Flotation Aggregate Formation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20A.%20Kondratyev">S. Since concrete subjected to impact loading associated with high strain rate shows quite different material behavior from that in the static state, several material models are proposed and used to describe the high strain rate behavior under blast and impact loading. In the process of modelling, in advance, mesh dependency in the used finite element (FE) is the key problem because simulation results under high strain-rate condition are quite sensitive to applied FE mesh size. It means that the accuracy of simulation results may deeply be dependent on FE mesh size in simulations. This paper introduces an improved criterion which can minimize the mesh-dependency of simulation results on the basis of the fracture energy concept, and HJC (Holmquist Johnson Cook), CSC (Continuous Surface Cap) and K&C (Karagozian & Case) models are examined to trace their relative sensitivity to the used FE mesh size. To coincide with the purpose of the penetration test with a concrete plate under a projectile (bullet), the residual velocities of projectile after penetration are compared. The correlation studies between analytical results and the parametric studies associated with them show that the variation of residual velocity with the used FE mesh size is quite reduced by applying a unique failure strain value determined according to the proposed criterion. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20strain%20rate%20concrete" title="high strain rate concrete">high strain rate concrete</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=penetration%20simulation" title=" penetration simulation"> penetration simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=failure%20strain" title=" failure strain"> failure strain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mesh-dependency" title=" mesh-dependency"> mesh-dependency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fracture%20energy" title=" fracture energy"> fracture energy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18943/an-criterion-to-minimize-fe-mesh-dependency-in-concrete-plate-subjected-to-impact-loading" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18943.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">521</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13669</span> Meta-Learning for Hierarchical Classification and Applications in Bioinformatics</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fabio%20Fabris">Fabio Fabris</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alex%20A.%20Freitas"> Alex A. Meta-learning for classification-algorithm recommendation consists of recommending to the user a classification algorithm, from a pool of candidate algorithms, for a dataset, based on the past performance of the candidate algorithms in other datasets. Meta-learning is normally used in conventional, non-hierarchical classification. By contrast, this paper proposes a meta-learning approach for more challenging task of hierarchical classification, and evaluates it in a large number of bioinformatics datasets. Hierarchical classification is especially relevant for bioinformatics problems, as protein and gene functions tend to be organised into a hierarchy of class labels. This work proposes meta-learning approach for recommending the best hierarchical classification algorithm to a hierarchical classification dataset. This work’s contributions are: 1) proposing an algorithm for splitting hierarchical datasets into new datasets to increase the number of meta-instances, 2) proposing meta-features for hierarchical classification, and 3) interpreting decision-tree meta-models for hierarchical classification algorithm recommendation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=algorithm%20recommendation" title="algorithm recommendation">algorithm recommendation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=meta-learning" title=" meta-learning"> meta-learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioinformatics" title=" bioinformatics"> bioinformatics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hierarchical%20classification" title=" hierarchical classification"> hierarchical classification</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81005/meta-learning-for-hierarchical-classification-and-applications-in-bioinformatics" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81005.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">314</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13668</span> A Survey on Routh-Hurwitz Stability Criterion</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mojtaba%20Hakimi-Moghaddam">Mojtaba Hakimi-Moghaddam</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion is a powerful approach to determine stability of linear time invariant systems. However, the model that only uses a single-layer latent indicator cannot achieve the true hierarchical structure of the language, especially a complex language like Chinese. In this paper, we propose a deep layered model that stacks arbitrarily many RNN layers equipped with latent indicators. After using EM and training it hierarchically, our model solves the computational problem of stacking RNN layers and makes it possible to stack arbitrarily many RNN layers. The main goal was to define strength and deformation characteristics of rocks on the base of uniaxial compression and three-point bending loadings and then to build a mathematical model of failure process for both types of loading. Depending on particular physical-mechanical characteristics typical rocks of Kuzbass coal basin (sandstones, siltstones, mudstones, etc. of different series – Kolchuginsk, Tarbagansk, Balohonsk) manifest brittle and quasi-brittle character of failure. The strength characteristics for both tension and compression are found. Other characteristics are also found from the experiment or taken from literature reviews. On the base of obtained characteristics and structure (obtained from microscopy) the mathematical and structural models are built and numerical modelling of failure under different types of loading is carried out. Effective characteristics obtained from modelling and character of failure correspond to experiment and thus, the mathematical model was verified. An Instron 1185 machine was used to carry out the experiments. Mathematical model includes fundamental conservation laws of solid mechanics – mass, impulse, energy. Each rock has a sufficiently anisotropic structure, however, each crystallite might be considered as isotropic and then a whole rock model has a quasi-isotropic structure. This idea gives an opportunity to use the Hooke’s law inside of each crystallite and thus explicitly accounting for the anisotropy of rocks and the stress-strain state at loading. Inelastic behavior is described in frameworks of two different models: von Mises yield criterion and modified Drucker-Prager yield criterion. The damage accumulation theory is also implemented in order to describe a failure process. Obtained effective characteristics of rocks are used then for modelling of rock mass evolution when mining is carried out both by an open-pit or underground opening. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damage%20accumulation" title="damage accumulation">damage accumulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Drucker-Prager%20yield%20criterion" title=" Drucker-Prager yield criterion"> Drucker-Prager yield criterion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=failure" title=" failure"> failure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematical%20modelling" title=" mathematical modelling"> mathematical modelling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=three-point%20bending" title=" three-point bending"> three-point bending</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uniaxial%20compression" title=" uniaxial compression"> uniaxial compression</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86478/experimental-study-and-numerical-modelling-of-failure-of-rocks-typical-for-kuzbass-coal-basin" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86478.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">175</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13665</span> Hybrid Hierarchical Clustering Approach for Community Detection in Social Network</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Radhia%20Toujani">Radhia Toujani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jalel%20Akaichi"> Jalel Akaichi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Social Networks generally present a hierarchy of communities. To determine these communities and the relationship between them, detection algorithms should be applied. Most of the existing algorithms, proposed for hierarchical communities identification, are based on either agglomerative clustering or divisive clustering. In this paper, we present a hybrid hierarchical clustering approach for community detection based on both bottom-up and bottom-down clustering. Obviously, our approach provides more relevant community structure than hierarchical method which considers only divisive or agglomerative clustering to identify communities. Moreover, we performed some comparative experiments to enhance the quality of the clustering results and to show the effectiveness of our algorithm. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
