width: 100%; background-color: #f7f7f7; padding: 5px 10px; color: #101010;"> <address class="post-meta-author author"> <i class="fa fa-user"></i>By Joe Lepper</address> <time pubdate datetime="15/11/24" class="post-meta-date"> <i class="fa fa-calendar"></i>15/11/24</time> </div> <div class="entry-main"> <div class="entry-content"> <p>Central Co-op, which has stores across the Midlands and central England, has raised more than £2.5m through its seven-year link up with the charity Dementia UK.<br /> <br /> The milestone has been announced as the chain’s partnership with Dementia UK comes to an end and its new link up with mental health charity Samaritans launches. <br /> <br /> The funding has helped fund Dementia UK’s specialist nursing service, which has doubled in size from 200 nurses to 447.<br /> <br /> Fundraising has included sports challenges, care washes and a sky dive as well as through micro-donations charity Pennies, where customers were invited to donate their change when spending by debit card. <br /> <br /> “We’re so grateful for the ongoing support from Central Co-op colleagues, customers, and Members since 2017,” said Dementia UK chief executive Hilda Hayo.<br /> <br /> “It’s been our longest-standing and highest-value partnership to date. Together, you’ve raised an incredible £2.5 million, which has provided a lifeline to thousands of families living with dementia when they’ve needed it most. <br /> <br /> “It has been a pleasure to work with you, and I’d like to offer a personal thank you, on behalf of all of us at Dementia UK, for taking us closer to a world where no one faces dementia alone.”<br /> <br /> Central Co-op social change manager Hannah Galimore added: “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together with Dementia UK over the past seven years. <br /> <br /> "The dedication and generosity of our colleagues, Members and customers have been truly inspiring. <br /> <br /> “It’s not just about the money raised; it’s about the awareness we’ve spread and the difference we’ve made in local communities.
