Understanding what is going on within the tool is nearly impossible. Jira's strata of layers and how they are related actually HURTS daily users. Content/comments/changes are buried and often siloed in extensively convoluted pages and the hierarchy of parent/child page relationships is unnavigable. With Jira we are able to get all the requirements of the project and put them in Jira before we can begin the development process. This saves the time and effort as we are able to track all those requirements during the developmental life cycle of the project. The scrum board feature is what makes everything look simple from the start to finish. We are able to know which requirements or tasks are a priority and complete them first before we attend to others. Clients and project managers can oversee the projects’ development and comment on the same or point out the issues from the same platform. The reporting feature also works fine to help know the status of the project.</p> <p><strong>CONS:</strong> There is problem with how difficult the tool is to use. It has a steep learning curve which means that you will need a form of training to explore all the features. This could be because it has a lot of feature to digest and thus getting to know each and every one of them can be a tough thing to do. Due to this, some people may opt for another tool with fewer and simpler features to deal with. The design of Jira is not as attractive as I would expect and thus it could be improved in more ways to make it presentable and smooth in terms of operation. It has everything you need from the tracking functionality to how well you can integrate with other tools that offer similar functions. It is able to work hand in hand with applications that are related to development. This form of integration means that you have a complete tool for tracking and managing your projects. Whatever feature is missing, you can find a third party application that offers such feature and integrate it with Jira. It is also well documented which means you will be able to know how it works without the need to train.</p> <p><strong>CONS:</strong> It only works when you are connected to the internet. This can be an issue especially where there is no internet connection. You need to be able to check the progress and status of your projects regardless of where you are or whether you are connected to the internet or not. At the moment, this tool does not offer such luxury to users or project managers. It would be better if there was a way to view your projects without having to connect to the internet. It has a reliable platform through which you can track tickets as they come and assign them to individuals within a team. Jira makes your projects look attractive in terms of execution. You are able to stay on track with where each of the development cycle is heading and which tickets are being taken care of. Previously, I utilized Jira in managing a digital creative team. However, it can also be used for software development projects to help manage tasks, teams and issues or bugs that come up during the process. It helps automate the complex tasks in a project thereby making it easy for you to manage multiple projects without much hustle.</p> <p><strong>CONS:</strong> Although it is mobile compatible, it does not offer similar user experience as when you are using it on your PC. Since I travel a lot, I am always on the move and thus whenever I need to check in on a project or interact with a ticket, it is difficult to do so with ease. It would be nice if the developers of this tool could include a robust mobile version of the product to help users receive the same experience as of when they are using it on their PCs. From there, you can put those requirements in the development life cycle and track them from there. It makes the difficult things in a project look simple. Ticketing is made simple with this tool to help you communicate on issues, bugs and tasks with your team members and assign that task or bug to the most available or able team member.</p> <p><strong>CONS:</strong> It has a few drawbacks which you should look out for. Although reliable when it comes to tracking, it has a learning curve which you have to go through before you get the hang of things. When you want to configure the workflow, it will prove to be a tough hill to climb. During the review process they can communicate with us on their experience so that we can know which adjustments to make. It also helps us to track defects and requirements of the applications we make so that we know we are on the same page with what our clients’ needs. Through such tracking processes we are able to develop or complete projects in an objective manner. It is a cloud based product which allows my team and me to stay on track and communicate effectively during the developmental stages of the application. On top of that, it can be configured to be compatible with web based products, which allows us to capture data on the web from our clients.</p> <p><strong>CONS:</strong> There are always issues when it comes to using any application for your business or project processes. For the case of Jira it is no different. Even though their customer support is great as it is highly responsive the time it takes to resolve an issue is wanting. You have to wait for long before your issue is resolved and you can continue with using the product. It would be better if they could hire more technical support team members so that issues brought forward are taken care of within a short period. Also, there are frequent changes to the application which means you have to learn about the new features all over again. Also, you will find it easy to configure the workflow for better performance of your team in seeing the project a success.</p> <p><strong>CONS:</strong> When you factor in the price, it can be expensive. However this will depend on the size of the team you have for your project. If you will be hosting a team of more than 10 members, then you will find this tool to be expensive. The cost aspect comes into light due to the return on investment (ROI) you get from Jira once you manage your project. Whenever we feel like introducing some changes, we can easily go and make some tweaks. What I really love about JIRA is the All Digital Epics board feature. It enables me to build my own columns and move projects with the drag and drop functionality.</p> <p><strong>CONS:</strong> There are times when JIRA itself has bugs in its system, which is ironic. Instead of using emails to communicate, our team can track tickets using this tool. Jira has come of age when it comes to effective communication and making us more organized in terms of the things we are supposed to do. It has brought all the tasks, assignments and issues into one platform where management of the same is simple. This means that we are able to manage projects with ease since communications have transferred from using the email inbox to a different platform. As a result, you will be able to find a particular file or ticket with ease when using Jira as compared to when you are searching it in your email inbox.</p> <p><strong>CONS:</strong> It can be a handful to get used to. When it comes to the learning curve, it is real with this tool. It is highly configurable but your team has to figure out the workflow before they can find their way around on this. It requires you to be patient with your team and learn what the tool has to offer. When it comes to knowing your way around the tool and exploring the functionalities it has to offer, it will take time. Luckily, once you hack everything about this tool, you are home and dry. The difficult part comes when you have to know your workflow. Its a NIGHTMARE for any other use case. </p> <p><strong>CONS:</strong> Jira is a COMPLETE disaster when it comes to the onboarding process. Understanding what is going on within the tool is nearly impossible. Jira's strata of layers and how they are related actually HURTS daily users. Content/comments/changes are buried and often siloed in extensively convoluted pages and the hierarchy of parent/child page relationships is unnavigable. JIRA is a tool that offers superb customization options, almost anything can be modified using a wide selection of pre-installed tools or downloadable add ons. This is perfect if businesses want to meet various requirements for metrics and charts the stakeholders have set. Modifiable workflow enables us to have separate life cycles for each task.</p> <p><strong>CONS:</strong> While JIRA is customizable, the platform demands a certain amount of effort to extend its data schema with new attributes. JIRA does not offer appealing ways to visualize data. At times, explaining all data points of the lifecycle can be difficult , especially when it needs to be done "yesterday" or "abruptly". So we have to resort to utilizing Labels, Components, Fix Versions etc., as anything but what it says just to put everything into the required model of implementation. It's quite difficult to master.
