Mark 14:3-9)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-1.htm"><b>1</b></a></span>Therefore six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised out from <i>the</i> dead. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>Therefore they made Him a supper there, and Martha was serving, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Therefore Mary, having taken a litra<span class="fn"><a href="#fna" title="About a pint, or about a half liter">a</a></span> of fragrant oil of pure nard, of great price, anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, being about to betray Him, says, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>“Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii<span class="fn"><a href="#fnb" title="A denarius was customarily a day's wage for a laborer (see Matthew 20:2)">b</a></span> and given to <i>the</i> poor?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>But he said this, not because he was caring for the poor, but because he was a thief; and having the money bag, he used to pilfer that being put into <i>it</i>. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Therefore Jesus said, <span class="red">“Leave her alone, so that for the day of My burial she may keep it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>For you always have the poor with you,<span class="fn"><a href="#fnc" title="See Deuteronomy 15:11">c</a></span> but not always do you have Me.”</span> </p><p class="hdg">The Plot to Kill Lazarus</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Therefore a great crowd of the Jews knew that He is there; and they came, not only because of Jesus, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom He had raised out from <i>the</i> dead. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>But the chief priests took counsel, that they might kill Lazarus also, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus. </p><p class="hdg">The Triumphal Entry<br /><span class="cross">(Zechariah 9:9-13; Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-40)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>On the next day the great crowd having come to the feast, having heard that Jesus is coming into Jerusalem, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and were shouting:</p><p class="indent1stline">“Hosanna!”<span class="fn"><a href="#fnd" title="Psalm 118:25">d</a></span></p><p class="indent1stline">“Blessed is the <i>One</i> coming in <i>the</i> name of <i>the</i> Lord!”<span class="fn"><a href="#fne" title="Psalm 118:26">e</a></span></p><p class="indent1stline">“And the King of Israel!”<span class="fn"><a href="#fnf" title="Zephaniah 3:15">f</a></span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Now Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat upon it, as it is written: </p><p class="indent1stline"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>“Fear not, daughter of Zion.</p><p class="indent2"> Behold, your King comes,</p><p class="indent2"> sitting on a colt of a donkey.”<span class="fn"><a href="#fng" title="Zechariah 9:9">g</a></span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>His disciples did not know these things from the first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and these things they had done to Him. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Therefore the crowd being with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him out from <i>the</i> dead, continued to bear witness. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>On account of this also the crowd met Him, because they heard of His having done this sign. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Therefore the Pharisees said among themselves, “You see that you gain nothing. Behold, the world has gone after Him.” </p><p class="hdg">Jesus Predicts His Death</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Now there were certain Greeks among those coming up that they might worship at the feast. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Therefore these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and they were asking him, saying, “Sir, we desire to see Jesus.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Philip comes and tells Andrew; Andrew and Philip come and tell Jesus. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And Jesus answered them, saying, <span class="red">“The hour has come that Son of Man should be glorified. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Truly, truly, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat, having fallen into the ground, should die, it abides alone; but if it should die, it bears much fruit. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>The <i>one</i> loving his life loses it, and the <i>one</i> hating his life in this world will keep it to eternal life. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.</span> </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Now My soul has been troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But on account of this I came to this hour. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Father, glorify Your name.”</p><p class="reg"> Therefore a voice came from heaven: “I have both glorified <i>it</i>, and I will glorify <i>it</i> again.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Therefore the crowd having stood, and having heard, was saying, “There has been thunder.” Others were saying, “An angel has spoken to Him.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Jesus answered and said, <span class="red">“This voice has not come because of Me but because of you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Now is <i>the</i> judgment of this world; now the prince of this world will be cast out. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all to Myself.”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Now He was saying this, signifying by what death He was about to die. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>Then the crowd answered Him, “We have heard from the Law that Christ abides to the age, and how do you say that it behooves the Son of Man to be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Therefore Jesus said to them, <span class="red">“Yet a little while, the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness might not overtake you. And the <i>one</i> walking in the darkness does not know where he is going. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become sons of light.”</span></p><p class="reg"> Jesus spoke these things, and having gone away, He was hidden from them. </p><p class="hdg">Belief and Unbelief</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>Although so many of His signs had been done before them, they did not believe in Him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>so that word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, that said:</p><p class="indent1stline">“Lord, who has believed our report?</p><p class="indent2"> And to whom has the arm of <i>the</i> Lord been revealed?”<span class="fn"><a href="#fnh" title="Isaiah 53:1">h</a></span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>Because of this, they were not able to believe, for again Isaiah said: </p><p class="indent1stline"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>“He has blinded their eyes,</p><p class="indent2"> and has hardened their heart,</p><p class="indent1"> that they should not see with the eyes,</p><p class="indent2"> and understand with the heart,</p><p class="indent1"> and turn,</p><p class="indent2"> and I will heal them.”<span class="fn"><a href="#fni" title="Isaiah 6:10">i</a></span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>Isaiah said these things because he saw His glory and spoke concerning Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>Nevertheless, indeed many even of the rulers believed in Him, but on account of the Pharisees they were not confessing, so that they might not be put out of the synagogue. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>And Jesus cried out and said, <span class="red">“The <i>one</i> believing in Me, does not believe in Me, but in the <i>One</i> having sent Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>And the <i>one</i> beholding Me, beholds the <i>One</i> having sent Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>I have come into the world <i>as</i> a light, so that everyone believing in Me should not abide in darkness.</span> </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>And if anyone hears My words and does not keep <i>them</i>, I do not judge him; for I did not come that I might judge the world, but that I might save the world. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>The <i>one</i> rejecting Me and not receiving My words has <i>one</i> judging him: The word which I spoke, that will judge him in the last day. </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span>For I did not speak from Myself, but the Father Himself, having sent Me, gave Me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/12-50.htm"><b>50</b></a></span>And I know that His commandment is eternal life.
