Because if management doesn’t buy in to the need for security, you won’t get very far. Since we all know that users these days often won’t take “no” for an answer, a better approach is to educate them on safe usage of AI and what data can be used in it. For example, at my company, we have an approved list of AI tools that users can use with corporate data. They are allowed to use other AI tools as long as they do not enter corporate data into them. If they feel that a new AI tool would be useful in their work, they can submit a request for consideration and evaluation by IT. Note that the most important thing you will need is to get the leadership team and HR to back you up to make this work effectively, so start with dicussing these things with them first. Come up with a strategy on how you’re going to approach AI.
