The sample was collected from dye industries near VATVA G.I.D.C. (Gujarat) and adjourning surrounding area. On the basis of colony morphology and certain biochemical tests the strain was identified as Bacillus megaterium species and gave maximum decolourization of turquoise blue dye within 48 hours at pH 7.00 and 37°C in the medium followed by blue M2R, Safranin, Congo red, Malachite green Orange ME2RL and Yellow M8G dyes. This organism can decolourize turquoise blue dye up to a concentration of 5mg/ml but showed maximum dye degradation at 1mg/ml concentration. Glucose (1g%) was found to be the best Carbon source while NH4Cl (1g%) was found as the best Nitrogen source for maximum biodegradation process. The isolated strain is even able to degrade wide range of dyes. textile and dyeing industries cause serious pollution to aquatic environments. In this study, azo dye decolourization potential of five bacterial isolates was examined in different physicochemical conditions such as pH, temperature and glucose concentrations. Based on biochemical characteristics the isolates were identified as Bacillus badius (isolate A3 and A4) and Bacillus sphaericus (isolate A5, B8, C5). These bacteria showed decolourization of two experimental azo dyes, Novacron Blue and Novacron Super Black at different temperatures, pH and glucose concentrations up to 92% after 72 h of incubation. Decolourization increased with time and temperature. Neutral to alkaline pH with increased concentration of glucose facilitated dye removal. The maximum decolourization (92%) of experimental dyes was observed at 35°C, pH 7-8 with 2% glucose. Textile industries discharge a huge amount of effluent containing various harmful chemicals including synthetic dyes that are very stable and threat to the living organisms. This study deals with the potential decolorization and biodegradation of Bemacron Yellow HP-2R (BY), Bemacron Red RS (BR) and Bemacron blue RS 01 (BB) dyes using bacteria isolated from textile effluent. The effluent and soil samples were collected from different locations of discharge point. Only two isolates were screened out after primary screening using dye supplemented nutrient agar media. A potential bacterial strain was isolated and selected from the textile effluent on the basis of rapid azo dye Remazol Black B (250mgl–1) decolorization and later identified as belonging to genus Bacillus based on phenotypic characterization. The effect of pH, temperature, carbon &amp; nitrogen source was studied with an aim to determine the optimal conditions required for maximum decolorization and degradation. Decolorization was effective at pH 8, 35°C with starch and peptone as carbon and nitrogen sources and in static conditions. This decolorization potential increased the applicability of this microorganism for the dye removal. In the present study, the decolorization potential of two textile dyes (malachite green and indigo carmine) by the Bacillus sp. isolated from dye contaminated soil of the local dying houses in Nagpur-India was determined. Decolorization rate was monitored by spectrophotometry. Different parameters such as pH, time and temperature were optimized for the present study. It was found that Bacillus sp. decolorized 95.12% of malachite green (100mg/L) at pH 9.5 and 66.6% of indigo carmine (100mg/L) at pH 6 at 370C within 96 hours under shaking condition.
