He *said<MG3004> to Him, “Lord<MG2962>, You are washing<MG3538> my feet<MG4228>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to him, “What<MG3739> I am doing<MG4160>, you do not realize<MG3609a> right<MG737> now<MG737>, but you will understand<MG1097> later<MG3326, 3778>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Peter<MG4074> *said<MG3004> to Him, “Never<MG3756, 3361> shall You wash<MG3538> my feet<MG4228>!” Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> him, “If<MG1437> I do not wash<MG3538> you, you have<MG2192> no<MG3756> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>place<MG3313> with Me.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Simon<MG4613> Peter<MG4074> *said<MG3004> to Him, “Lord<MG2962>, <i>then wash</i> not only<MG3440> my feet<MG4228>, but also<MG2532> my hands<MG5495> and my head<MG2776>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to him, “He who has bathed<MG3068> needs<MG5532> only<MG3756, 1487, 3361> to wash<MG3538> his feet<MG4228>; otherwise<MG235> he is completely<MG3650> clean<MG2513>. And you are clean<MG2513>—but <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>not all<MG3956> <i>of you.</i>” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>For He knew<MG3609a> the one who was betraying<MG3860> Him; <i>it was</i> for this<MG3778> reason<MG1223> <i>that</i> He said<MG3004>, “Not all<MG3956> <i>of you</i> are clean<MG2513>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then<MG3767>, when<MG3753> He had washed<MG3538> their feet<MG4228>, and taken<MG2983> His garments<MG2440> and reclined<MG377> <i>at the table</i> again<MG3825>, He said<MG3004> to them, “Do you know<MG1097> what<MG5101> I have done<MG4160> for you? <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>You call<MG5455> Me ‘Teacher<MG1320>’ and ‘Lord<MG2962>’; and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>you are correct<MG2573>, for <i>so</i> I am<MG1510>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>So<MG3767> if<MG1487> I, the Lord<MG2962> and the Teacher<MG1320>, washed<MG3538> your feet<MG4228>, you also<MG2532> ought<MG3784> to wash<MG3538> one<MG240> another’s<MG240> feet<MG4228>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>For I gave<MG1325> you an example<MG5262>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> you also<MG2532> would do<MG4160> just<MG2531a> as I did<MG4160> for you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, a slave<MG1401> is not greater<MG3173> than his master<MG2962>, nor<MG3761> <i>is</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>one<MG652> who is sent<MG652> greater<MG3173> than the one who sent<MG3992> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>If<MG1487> you know<MG3609a> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, you are blessed<MG3107> if<MG1437> you do<MG4160> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>I am not speaking<MG3004> about<MG4012> all<MG3956> of you. I know<MG3609a> <i>the ones</i> whom<MG5101> I have chosen<MG1586>; but <i>this is happening</i> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> the Scripture<MG1124> may be fulfilled<MG4137>, ‘HE WHO EATS<MG5176> MY BREAD<MG740> HAS LIFTED<MG1869> UP HIS HEEL<MG4418> AGAINST<MG1909> ME.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>From now<MG737> on I am telling<MG3004> you before<MG4253> <i>it</i> happens<MG1096>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> when<MG3752> it does happen<MG1096>, you may believe<MG4100> that I am<MG1510> <i>He.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, the one who <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>receives<MG2983> anyone<MG302, 5100> I send<MG3992>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>receives<MG2983> Me; and the one who <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>receives<MG2983> Me <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>receives<MG2983> Him who sent<MG3992> Me.” <p class="hdg">Jesus Predicts His Betrayal</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>When Jesus<MG2424> had said<MG3004> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, He became troubled<MG5015> in spirit<MG4151>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>testified<MG3140> and said<MG3004>, “Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you that one<MG1520> of you will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>betray<MG3860> Me.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>The disciples<MG3101> <i>began</i> looking<MG991> at one<MG240> another<MG240>, at<MG639> a<MG639> loss<MG639> <i>to know</i> of which<MG5101> one<MG5101> He was speaking<MG3004>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Lying<MG345> back<MG345> on Jesus’<MG2424> chest<MG2859> was one<MG1520> of His disciples<MG3101>, whom<MG3739> Jesus<MG2424> loved<MG25>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>So<MG3767> Simon<MG4613> Peter<MG4074> *nodded<MG3506> to this <i>disciple</i> and *said<MG3004> to him, “Tell<MG3004> <i>us</i> who<MG5101> it is of whom<MG3739> He is speaking<MG3004>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>He then simply<MG3779> leaned<MG377> back<MG377> on Jesus’<MG2424> chest<MG4738> and *said<MG3004> to Him, “Lord<MG2962>, who<MG5101> is it?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> then<MG3767> *answered<MG611>, “That<MG1565> man<MG1565> is the one for whom<MG3739> I shall dip<MG911> the piece<MG5596> <i>of bread</i> and give<MG1325> it to him.” So<MG3767> when He had dipped<MG911> the piece<MG5596> <i>of bread,</i> He *took<MG2983> and *gave<MG1325> <i>it</i> to Judas<MG2455>, <i>the son</i> of Simon<MG4613> Iscariot<MG2469>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>After<MG3326> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>this, Satan<MG4567> then<MG5119> entered<MG1525> him. Therefore<MG3767> Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to him, “What<MG3739> you are doing<MG4160>, do<MG4160> <i>it</i> quickly<MG5036>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> none<MG3762> of those<MG3588> reclining<MG345> <i>at the table</i> knew<MG1097> for what<MG5101> purpose<MG4314> He had said<MG3004> this<MG3778> to him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>For some<MG5100> were assuming<MG1380>, since<MG1893> Judas<MG2455> kept<MG2192> the money<MG1101> box<MG1101>, that Jesus<MG2424> was saying<MG3004> to him, “Buy<MG59> the things we need<MG2192, 5532> for the feast<MG1859>”; or<MG2228> else<MG2228>, that he was to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>give<MG1325> something<MG5100> to the poor<MG4434>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>So<MG3767> after receiving<MG2983> the piece<MG5596> <i>of bread,</i> he left<MG1831> immediately<MG2117>; and it was night<MG3571>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767> when<MG3753> he had left<MG1831>, Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004>, “Now<MG3568> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>is the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> glorified<MG1392>, and God<MG2316> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>is glorified<MG1392> in Him; <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>if<MG1487> God<MG2316> is glorified<MG1392> in Him, God<MG2316> will also<MG2532> glorify<MG1392> Him in Himself<MG846>, and will glorify<MG1392> Him immediately<MG2117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Little<MG5040> children<MG5040>, I am<MG1510> <i>still</i> with you a little<MG3398> longer<MG2089>. You will look<MG2212> for<MG2212> Me; and just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> I said<MG3004> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>Jews<MG2453>, now<MG737> I also<MG2532> say<MG3004> to you: ‘Where<MG3699> I am going<MG5217>, you cannot<MG1410, 3756> come<MG1831>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>I am giving<MG1325> you a new<MG2537> commandment<MG1785>, that you love<MG25> one<MG240> another<MG240>; just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> I have loved<MG25> you, that you also<MG2532> love<MG25> one<MG240> another<MG240>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>By this<MG3778> all<MG3956> <i>people</i> will know<MG1097> that you are My disciples<MG3101>: if<MG1437> you have<MG2192> love<MG26> for one<MG240> another<MG240>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Simon<MG4613> Peter<MG4074> *said<MG3004> to Him, “Lord<MG2962>, where<MG4226> are You going<MG5217>?” Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611>, “Where<MG3699> I am going<MG5217>, you cannot<MG1410, 3756> follow<MG190> Me now<MG3568>; but you will follow<MG190> later<MG5305>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>Peter<MG4074> *said<MG3004> to Him, “Lord<MG2962>, why<MG1223, 5101> can<MG1410> I not follow<MG190> You right<MG737> now<MG737>? I will lay<MG5087> down<MG5087> my life<MG5590> for You.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/13-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> *replied<MG611>, “Will you lay<MG5087> down<MG5087> your life<MG5590> for Me?
