The early waste collection would add-on to the higher running cost and higher traffic clogging. Therefore, there is a need to improve waste management techniques. As the world is moving towards automated and smart techniques, there is a need to shift from traditional methods to smart waste management. It can be achieved by using technology and data to improvise the handling and collection of waste. This paper describes the ideology of automating the bin for opening and closing the lid and contributing to smart waste management by introducing IoT-based control and monitoring of the dustbin. Our country faces major challenges associated with waste management. Conventional garbage collection is not efficient since the authorities are not notified until the waste bin is full, and this leads to overflow of waste material. Efficient way of waste disposal and collection of disposed garbage is essential for a sustainable and clean India. This paper presents smart waste management using loT based waste bin for collection and monitoring the level of waste inside bin. The system is implemented using two ultrasonic sensors which is being controlled by Node MCU. One of the ultrasonic sensor detects the level of the waste in the bin and other detects the person approaching the bin to dispose the waste. This detection helps in automatic opening and closing of the lid. Servo motor is connected to the lid which serves the action of closing and opening of the lid. In this system, level of waste in the bin will be sent to concerned authorities. In this paper, we are proposing an IoT based Smart dustbin monitoring system with dynamic scheduling and routing of trash collector along with moisture detection of smart dustbins. Real-time status of each smart bin is sent to the cloud. A mobile application assists the trash collector using optimal dynamic routes. Municipal corporations monitor the entire waste collection process using the proposed system. urbanization has increased tremendously. At the same phase there is an increase in waste production. Waste management has been a crucial issue to be considered. Smart bin is built on a microcontroller-based platform Arduino Mega 2560 board which is interfaced with Ultrasonic sensor and Rain drop Sensor. Ultrasonic sensor is placed at the top of the dustbin which will measure the height of the dustbin. The threshold height is set as 20cm. Arduino will be programmed in such a way that when the dustbin is being filled, notification will pop up in Blynk app. Once the garbage reaches the threshold level, ultrasonic sensor will alert the required authority until the garbage in the dustbin is squashed. Once the dustbin is squashed, people can reuse the dustbin. Once these smart bins are implemented on a large scale, by replacing our traditional bins present today, waste can be managed efficiently as it avoids unnecessary lumping of wastes on roadside. Foul smell from these rotten wastes that remain untreated for a long time, due to negligence of authorities and carelessness of public may lead to long term problems. Breeding of insects and mosquitoes can create nuisance around promoting unclean environment.
