but what<MG5101> are these<MG3778> for so<MG5118> many<MG5118> <i>people?</i>” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004>, “Have<MG4160> the people<MG444> recline<MG377> <i>to eat.</i>” Now<MG1161> there was plenty<MG4183> of grass<MG5528> in the place<MG5117>. So<MG3767> the men<MG435> reclined<MG377>, about<MG5613> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>five<MG4000> thousand<MG4000> in number<MG706>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> then<MG3767> took<MG2983> the loaves<MG740>, and after giving<MG2168> thanks<MG2168> He distributed<MG1239> <i>them</i> to those<MG3588> who were reclining<MG345>; likewise<MG3668> also<MG2532> of the fish<MG3795>, as much<MG3745> as they wanted<MG2309>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And when<MG5613> they had eaten<MG1705a> their fill<MG1705a>, He *said<MG3004> to His disciples<MG3101>, “Gather<MG4863> up<MG4863> the leftover<MG4052> pieces<MG2801> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> nothing<MG3361, 5100> will be lost<MG622>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>So<MG3767> they gathered<MG4863> them up<MG4863>, and filled<MG1072> twelve<MG1427> baskets<MG2894> with pieces<MG2801> from the five<MG4002> barley<MG2916> loaves<MG740> which<MG3739> were left<MG4052> over<MG4052> by those<MG3588> who had eaten<MG977>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767> when the people<MG444> saw<MG3708> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>sign<MG4592> which<MG3739> He had performed<MG4160>, they said<MG3004>, “This<MG3778> is truly<MG230> the Prophet<MG4396> who is to come<MG2064> into the world<MG2889>.” <p class="hdg">Jesus Walks on the Water</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>So<MG3767> Jesus<MG2424>, aware<MG1097> that they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>intended<MG3195> to come<MG2064> and take<MG726> Him by force<MG726> to make<MG4160> Him king<MG935>, withdrew<MG402> again<MG3825> to the mountain<MG3735> by Himself<MG846>, alone<MG3441>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> when<MG5613> evening<MG3798> came<MG1096>, His disciples<MG3101> went<MG2597> down<MG2597> to the sea<MG2281>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>and after getting<MG1684> into a boat<MG4143>, they <i>started to</i> cross<MG2064, 4008> the sea<MG2281> to Capernaum<MG2746b>. It had already<MG2235> become<MG1096> dark<MG4653>, and Jesus<MG2424> had not yet<MG3768> come<MG2064> to them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>In<MG5037> addition<MG5037>, the sea<MG2281> <i>began</i> getting<MG1326> rough<MG1326>, because a strong<MG3173> wind<MG417> was blowing<MG4154>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then<MG3767>, when they had rowed<MG1643> about<MG5613> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>twenty-five<MG1501, 4002> or<MG2228> thirty<MG5144b> stadia<MG4712>, they *saw<MG2334> Jesus<MG2424> walking<MG4043> on the sea<MG2281> and coming<MG1096> near<MG1451> the boat<MG4143>; and they were<MG5399> frightened<MG5399>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>But He *said<MG3004> to them, “It is I; <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>do not be<MG5399> afraid<MG5399>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>So<MG3767> they were willing<MG2309> to take<MG2983> Him into the boat<MG4143>, and immediately<MG2112> the boat<MG4143> was at the land<MG1093> to which<MG3739> they were going<MG5217>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>The next<MG1887> day<MG1887> the crowd<MG3793> that stood<MG2476> on the other<MG4008> side<MG4008> of the sea<MG2281> saw<MG3708> that there was no<MG3756> other<MG243> small<MG4142> boat<MG4142> there<MG1563> except<MG1508> one<MG1520>, and that Jesus<MG2424> had not gotten<MG4897> into<MG4897> the boat<MG4143> with<MG4897> His disciples<MG3101>, but <i>that</i> His disciples<MG3101> had departed<MG565> alone<MG3441>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Other<MG243> small<MG4142> boats<MG4142> came<MG2064> from Tiberias<MG5085> near<MG1451> to the place<MG5117> where<MG3699> they ate<MG2068> the bread<MG740> after the Lord<MG2962> had given<MG2168> thanks<MG2168>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>So<MG3767> when<MG3753> the crowd<MG3793> saw<MG3708> that Jesus<MG2424> was not there<MG1563>, nor<MG3761> His disciples<MG3101>, they themselves<MG846> got<MG1684> into the small<MG4142> boats<MG4142> and came<MG2064> to Capernaum<MG2746b>, looking<MG2212> for<MG2212> Jesus<MG2424>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And when<MG4219> they found<MG2147> Him on the other<MG4008> side<MG4008> of the sea<MG2281>, they said<MG3004> to Him, “Rabbi<MG4461>, when<MG4219> did You get<MG1096> here<MG5602>?” <p class="hdg">Words to the People</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> them and said<MG3004>, “Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281>, I say<MG3004> to you, you seek<MG2212> Me, not because<MG3754> you saw<MG3708> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>signs<MG4592>, but because<MG3754> you ate<MG2068> some<MG1537> of<MG1537> the loaves<MG740> and were filled<MG5526>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Do not work<MG2038b> for the food<MG1035> that perishes<MG622>, but for the food<MG1035> that lasts<MG3306> for eternal<MG166> life<MG2222>, which<MG3739> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> will give<MG1325> you, for on<MG4972> Him the Father<MG3962>, God<MG2316>, has set<MG4972> His <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>seal<MG4972>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767> they said<MG3004> to Him, “What<MG5101> are we to do<MG4160>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> we may accomplish<MG2038b> the works<MG2041> of God<MG2316>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to them, “This<MG3778> is the work<MG2041> of God<MG2316>, that you believe<MG4100> in Him whom<MG3739> He has sent<MG649>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>So<MG3767> they said<MG3004> to Him, “What<MG5101> then<MG3767> are You doing<MG4160> as a sign<MG4592>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> we may see<MG3708>, and believe<MG4100> You? What<MG5101> work<MG2038b> are You performing<MG2038b>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Our fathers<MG3962> ate<MG2068> the manna<MG3131> in the wilderness<MG2048>; as it is written<MG1125>: ‘HE GAVE<MG1325> THEM BREAD<MG740> OUT OF HEAVEN<MG3772> TO EAT<MG2068>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> then<MG3767> said<MG3004> to them, “Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281>, I say<MG3004> to you, it is not Moses<MG3475> who has given<MG1325> you the bread<MG740> out of heaven<MG3772>, but it is My Father<MG3962> who gives<MG1325> you the true<MG228> bread<MG740> out of heaven<MG3772>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>For the bread<MG740> of God<MG2316> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>that which comes<MG2597> down<MG2597> out of heaven<MG3772> and gives<MG1325> life<MG2222> to the world<MG2889>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>Then<MG3767> they said<MG3004> to Him, “Lord<MG2962>, always<MG3842> give<MG1325> us this<MG3778> bread<MG740>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to them, “I am<MG1510> the bread<MG740> of life<MG2222>; the one who comes<MG2064> to Me will not be<MG3983> hungry<MG3983>, and the one who believes<MG4100> in Me will never<MG3756, 3361> be<MG1372> thirsty<MG1372>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>But I said<MG3004> to you that you have indeed<MG2532> seen<MG3708> Me, and <i>yet</i> you do not believe<MG4100>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>Everything<MG3956> that the Father<MG3962> gives<MG1325> Me will come<MG2240> to Me, and the one who comes<MG2064> to Me I certainly<MG3756, 3361> will not cast<MG1544b> out<MG1544b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>For I have come<MG2597> down<MG2597> from heaven<MG3772>, not to do<MG4160> My own<MG1699> will<MG2307>, but the will<MG2307> of Him who sent<MG3992> Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And this<MG3778> is the will<MG2307> of Him who sent<MG3992> Me, that of everything<MG3956> that He has given<MG1325> Me I will lose<MG622> nothing<MG3361>, but will raise<MG450> it up<MG450> on the last<MG2078> day<MG2250>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>For this<MG3778> is the will<MG2307> of My Father<MG3962>, that everyone<MG3956> who sees<MG2334> the Son<MG5207> and believes<MG4100> in Him will have<MG2192> eternal<MG166> life<MG2222>, and I Myself<MG1473> will raise<MG450> him up<MG450> on the last<MG2078> day<MG2250>.” <p class="hdg">Words to the Jews</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>So<MG3767> then<MG3767> the Jews<MG2453> were complaining<MG1111> about<MG4012> Him because<MG3754> He said<MG3004>, “I am<MG1510> the bread<MG740> that came<MG2597> down<MG2597> out of heaven<MG3772>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>And they were saying<MG3004>, “Is this<MG3778> not Jesus<MG2424>, the son<MG5207> of Joseph<MG2501>, whose<MG3739> father<MG3962> and mother<MG3384> we know<MG3609a>? How<MG4459> does He now<MG3568> say<MG3004>, ‘I have come<MG2597> down<MG2597> out of heaven<MG3772>’?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to them, “Stop<MG3361> complaining<MG1111> among<MG3326> yourselves<MG240>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>No<MG3762> one<MG3762> can<MG1410> come<MG2064> to Me unless<MG1437, 3361> the Father<MG3962> who sent<MG3992> Me draws<MG1670> him; and I will raise<MG450> him up<MG450> on the last<MG2078> day<MG2250>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>It is written<MG1125> in the Prophets<MG4396>: ‘AND THEY SHALL ALL<MG3956> BE TAUGHT<MG1318> OF GOD<MG2316>.’ Everyone<MG3956> who has heard<MG191> and learned<MG3129> from the Father<MG3962>, comes<MG2064> to Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>Not that anyone<MG5100> has seen<MG3708> the Father<MG3962>, except<MG1508> the One who is from God<MG2316>; He has seen<MG3708> the Father<MG3962>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281>, I say<MG3004> to you, the one who believes<MG4100> has<MG2192> eternal<MG166> life<MG2222>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>I am<MG1510> the bread<MG740> of life<MG2222>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span>Your fathers<MG3962> ate<MG2068> the manna<MG3131> in the wilderness<MG2048>, and they died<MG599>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-50.htm"><b>50</b></a></span>This<MG3778> is the bread<MG740> that comes<MG2597> down<MG2597> out of heaven<MG3772>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> anyone<MG5100> may eat<MG2068> from it and not die<MG599>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-51.htm"><b>51</b></a></span>I am<MG1510> the living<MG2198> bread<MG740> that came<MG2597> down<MG2597> out of heaven<MG3772>; if<MG1437> anyone<MG5100> eats<MG2068> from this<MG3778> bread<MG740>, he will live<MG2198> forever<MG165>; and the bread<MG740> which<MG3739> I will give<MG1325> for the life<MG2222> of the world<MG2889> also<MG2532> is My flesh<MG4561>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-52.htm"><b>52</b></a></span>Then<MG3767> the Jews<MG2453> <i>began</i> to argue<MG3164> with one<MG240> another<MG240>, saying<MG3004>, “How<MG4459> can<MG1410> this<MG3778> man<MG3778> give<MG1325> us His flesh<MG4561> to eat<MG2068>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-53.htm"><b>53</b></a></span>So<MG3767> Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to them, “Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281>, I say<MG3004> to you, unless<MG1437, 3361> you eat<MG2068> the flesh<MG4561> of the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> and drink<MG4095> His blood<MG129>, you have<MG2192> no<MG3756> life<MG2222> in yourselves<MG1438>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-54.htm"><b>54</b></a></span>The one who eats<MG5176> My flesh<MG4561> and drinks<MG4095> My blood<MG129> has<MG2192> eternal<MG166> life<MG2222>, and I will raise<MG450> him up<MG450> on the last<MG2078> day<MG2250>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-55.htm"><b>55</b></a></span>For My flesh<MG4561> is true<MG227> food<MG1035>, and My blood<MG129> is true<MG227> drink<MG4213>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-56.htm"><b>56</b></a></span>The one who eats<MG5176> My flesh<MG4561> and drinks<MG4095> My blood<MG129> remains<MG3306> in Me, and I in him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-57.htm"><b>57</b></a></span>Just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> the living<MG2198> Father<MG3962> sent<MG649> Me, and I live<MG2198> because<MG1223> of the Father<MG3962>, the one who eats<MG5176> Me, he also<MG2548> will live<MG2198> because<MG1223> of Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-58.htm"><b>58</b></a></span>This<MG3778> is the bread<MG740> that came<MG2597> down<MG2597> out of heaven<MG3772>, not as the fathers<MG3962> ate<MG2068> and died<MG599>; the one who eats<MG5176> this<MG3778> bread<MG740> will live<MG2198> forever<MG165>.” <p class="hdg">Words to the Disciples</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-59.htm"><b>59</b></a></span>These<MG3778> things<MG3778> He said<MG3004> in the synagogue<MG4864> as He taught<MG1321> in Capernaum<MG2746b>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-60.htm"><b>60</b></a></span>So<MG3767> then<MG3767> many<MG4183> of His disciples<MG3101>, when they heard<MG191> <i>this,</i> said<MG3004>, “This<MG3778> statement<MG3056> is <i>very</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>unpleasant<MG4642>; who<MG5101> can<MG1410> listen<MG191> to it?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/6-61.htm"><b>61</b></a></span>But Jesus<MG2424>, aware<MG3609a, 1722, 1438> that His disciples<MG3101> were complaining<MG1111> about<MG4012> this<MG3778>, said<MG3004> to them, “Is this<MG3778> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>offensive<MG4624> to you?
