Each was accompanied by an inscription giving a brief summary of the person's achievements. Some fragments of these inscriptions, which are called <FONT CLASS="exotic">elogia</FONT> by modern scholars, have survived, and they can be supplemented with similar inscriptions found elsewhere in Italy.
