Its corrosive effects drain resources from people, undermine trust in institutions, exacerbate inequalities and fuel conflict.</p> <p>An equitable and prosperous society relies on the foundations of integrity, both in the public and private sectors. Corruption, whether it takes place within public institutions or private companies, distorts fair decision-making and competition and erodes foundational values for democracy. Corruption also hinders domestic resource mobilization, limiting the financial means available for domestic development and impeding the overall economic growth.</p> <p>Joining forces with governments, anti-corruption practitioners, the private sector and civil society, including youth and academia, to address corruption at all levels and restoring trust where it has been eroded is at the core of the work of the Corruption and Economic Crime Branch (CEB) of UNODC.</p> <p>At UNODC headquarters and in the field, we support our stakeholders as they translate their commitments under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (<a href="/corruption/en/learn/what-is-uncac/overview.html">UNCAC</a>) into day-to-day reality. As countries come together under the Implementation Review Mechanism to conduct mutual evaluations and improve anti-corruption frameworks, we stand ready to provide context-specific technical assistance and support where gaps and challenges exist.</p> <p>The value of unity is enshrined in CEB鈥檚 vision.
