<poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>For the customs<MH2708> of the peoples<MH5971a> are futile<MH1892>; <t><p class="indent1">For it is wood<MH6086> cut<MH3772> from the forest<MH3293a>, <t><p class="indent1">The work<MH4639> of the hands<MH3027> of a craftsman<MH2796> with a cutting<MH4621> tool<MH4621>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>“They decorate<MH3302> <i>the idol</i> with silver<MH3701> and gold<MH2091>; <t><p class="indent1">They fasten<MH2388> it with nails<MH4548> and hammers<MH4717> <t><p class="indent1">So that it will not totter<MH6328>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>“They are like a scarecrow<MH8560> in a cucumber<MH4750> field<MH4750>, <t><p class="indent1">And they cannot<MH3808> speak<MH1696>; <t><p class="indent1">They must<MH5375> be carried<MH5375>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> they cannot<MH3808> walk<MH6805>! <t><p class="indent1">Do not fear<MH3372a> them, <t><p class="indent1">For they can do<MH7489a> no<MH3808> harm<MH7489a>, <t><p class="indent1">Nor<MH1571, 369> can they do<MH3190> any<MH1571> good<MH3190>.” <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>There<MH369> is<MH369> none<MH369> like<MH3644> You, LORD<MH3068>; <t><p class="indent1">You are great<MH1419>, and Your name<MH8034> is great<MH1419> in might<MH1369>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Who<MH4310> would not fear<MH3372a> You, O King<MH4428> of the nations<MH1471>? <t><p class="indent1">For it is Your due<MH2969>! <t><p class="indent1">For among all<MH3605> the wise<MH2450> men<MH2450> of the nations<MH1471> <t><p class="indent1">And in all<MH3605> their kingdoms<MH4438>, <t><p class="indent1">There<MH369> is<MH369> none<MH369> like<MH3644> You. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>But they are<MH1197b> altogether<MH259> stupid<MH1197b> and foolish<MH3688>; <t><p class="indent1">The instruction<MH4148> <i>from</i> idols<MH1892> is <i>nothing but</i> wood<MH6086>! <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Beaten<MH7554> silver<MH3701> is brought<MH935> from Tarshish<MH8659>, <t><p class="indent1">And gold<MH2091> from Uphaz<MH210>, <t><p class="indent1">The work<MH4639> of a craftsman<MH2796> and of the hands<MH3027> of a goldsmith<MH6884>; <t><p class="indent1">Their clothing<MH3830> is of violet<MH8504> and purple<MH713>; <t><p class="indent1">They are all<MH3605> the work<MH4639> of skilled<MH2450> people<MH2450>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>But the LORD<MH3068> is the true<MH571> God<MH430>; <t><p class="indent1">He is the living<MH2416a> God<MH430> and the everlasting<MH5769> King<MH4428>. <t><p class="indent1">The earth<MH776> quakes<MH7493> at His wrath<MH7110a>, <t><p class="indent1">And the nations<MH1471> cannot<MH3808> endure<MH3557> His indignation<MH2195>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>This<MH3541> is what<MH1836> you shall say<MH560> to them: “The gods<MH426> that did not make<MH5648> the heavens<MH8065> and the earth<MH778> will perish<MH7> from the earth<MH778> and from under<MH8460> these heavens<MH8065>.” <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span><i>It is</i> He who made<MH6213a> the earth<MH776> by His power<MH3581b>, <t><p class="indent1">Who established<MH3559> the world<MH8398> by His wisdom<MH2451>; <t><p class="indent1">And by His understanding<MH8394> He has stretched<MH5186> out<MH5186> the heavens<MH8064>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>When He utters<MH5414> His voice<MH6963>, <i>there is</i> a roar<MH1995> of waters<MH4325> in the heavens<MH8064>, <t><p class="indent1">And He makes the clouds<MH5387b> ascend<MH5927> from the end<MH7097a> of the earth<MH776>; <t><p class="indent1">He makes<MH6213a> lightning<MH1300> for the rain<MH4306>, <t><p class="indent1">And brings<MH3318> out<MH3318> the wind<MH7307> from His storehouses<MH214>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Every<MH3605> person<MH120> is<MH1197b> stupid<MH1197b>, devoid<MH4480> of knowledge<MH1847>; <t><p class="indent1">Every<MH3605> goldsmith<MH6884> is put<MH954> to<MH954> shame<MH954> by his idols<MH6459>, <t><p class="indent1">For his cast<MH5262b> metal<MH5262b> images<MH5262b> are deceitful<MH8267>, <t><p class="indent1">And there is no<MH3808> breath<MH7307> in them. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>They are worthless<MH1892>, a work<MH4639> of mockery<MH8595>; <t><p class="indent1">At the time<MH6256> of their punishment<MH6486> they will perish<MH6>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>The Portion<MH2506> of Jacob<MH3290> is not like these<MH428>; <t><p class="indent1">For He is the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>Maker<MH3335> of everything<MH3605>, <t><p class="indent1">And Israel<MH3478> is the tribe<MH7626> of His inheritance<MH5159>; <t><p class="indent1">The LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> is His name<MH8034>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Pick<MH622> up<MH622> your bundle<MH3666> from the ground<MH776>, <t><p class="indent1">You who live<MH3427> under siege<MH4692>! <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>For this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: <p class="indent1stline">“Behold<MH2009>, I am slinging<MH7049a> out<MH7049a> the inhabitants<MH3427> of the land<MH776> <t><p class="indent1">At this<MH2088> time<MH6471>, <t><p class="indent1">And I will cause<MH6887a> them distress<MH6887a>, <t><p class="indent1">So<MH4616> that<MH4616> they may <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>be found<MH4672>.” <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Woe<MH188> to me, because<MH5921> of my <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>injury<MH7667>! <t><p class="indent1">My wound<MH4347> is incurable<MH2470a>. <t><p class="indent1">But I said<MH559>, “This<MH2088> certainly<MH389> is a sickness<MH2483>, <t><p class="indent1">And I must endure<MH5375> it.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>My tent<MH168> is destroyed<MH7703>, <t><p class="indent1">And all<MH3605> my ropes<MH4340> are<MH5423> broken<MH5423>. <t><p class="indent1">My sons<MH1121> have gone<MH3318> from<MH3318> me and are no<MH369> more<MH369>. <t><p class="indent1">There<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> one<MH369> to stretch<MH5186> out<MH5186> my tent<MH168> again<MH5750> <t><p class="indent1">Or to set<MH6965> up<MH6965> my curtains<MH3407>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>For the shepherds<MH7462a> have become<MH1197b> stupid<MH1197b> <t><p class="indent1">And have not sought<MH1875> the LORD<MH3068>. <t><p class="indent1">Therefore<MH5921, 3651> they have not prospered<MH7919a>, <t><p class="indent1">And all<MH3605> their flock<MH4830> is scattered<MH6327a>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/10-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>The sound<MH6963> of a report<MH8052>!
