<A name="3"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>and, behold, a man, called by name Zacchaeus, and he was a chief tax-collector; and he was rich. <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>And he was seeking to see Jesus, Who He was; and was not able on account of the multitude; because he was small in stature. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And, running before, he climbed up into a sycamore tree, that he might see Him; because He was about to pass along that way. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And, when He came to the place, Jesus, looking up, said to him, <FR>"Zacchaeus, hastening, come down; for to-day I must abide in your house."<Fr> <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And, hastening, he came down, and received Him joyfully. <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And, seeing <i>it</i>, they were all murmuring, saying, "He went in to be guest with a sinful man!" <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And, standing, Zacchaeus said to the Lord, "Behold, the half of my goods, Lord, I give to the poor; and, if I wrongfully exacted anything from any one, I restore four-fold." <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And Jesus said to him, <FR>"To-day salvation came to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham;<Fr> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span><FR>for the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which is lost."<Fr><p> <A name="12"></a><p class="hdg">The Parable of the Ten Minas<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/25.htm#14">Matthew 25:14–30</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And, as they were hearing these things, adding, He spake a parable, because He was nigh to Jerusalem, and they supposed that the Kingdom of God was about immediately to appear. <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>He said, therefore, <FR>"A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.<Fr> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span><FR>And, calling ten servants of his, he gave them ten pounds, and said to them, 'Do business till I come.'<Fr> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span><FR>But his citizens were hating him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, 'We do not wish this man to be king over us.'<Fr> <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span><FR>And it came to pass, when he came back, having received the kingdom, that he commanded the servants to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they accomplished in business.<Fr> <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><FR>"And the first came before him, saying, 'Lord, your pound gained ten pounds.'<Fr> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span><FR>And he said to him, 'Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.'<Fr> <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span><FR>And the second came, saying, 'Lord, your pound gained five pounds.'<Fr> <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span><FR>And he said also to this man, 'Be thou also over five cities.'<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span><FR>And the other came, saying, 'Lord, behold, your pound which I had lying away in a napkin;<Fr> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span><FR>for I feared you, because you are a harsh man; you take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.'<Fr> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span><FR>He says to him, 'Out of your own mouth will I judge you, O evil servant! You knew that I am a harsh man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping where I did not sow;<Fr> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span><FR>and wherefore did you not put my money in bank; and I, <i>at my</i> coming, would have exacted it with interest.'<Fr> <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span><FR>And he said to those standing by, 'Take away from him the pound, and give <i>it</i> to him who has the ten pounds.'<Fr> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span><FR>And they said, 'Lord, he has ten pounds.'<Fr> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span><FR>'I say to you that to every one who has shall be given; but from him who has not shall be taken away even that which he has.<Fr> <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span><FR>But, these my enemies, who did not wish me to be king over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.'"<Fr><p> <A name="29"></a><p class="hdg">The Triumphal Entry<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/21.htm">Matthew 21:1–11</a>; <a href ="../mark/11.htm">Mark 11:1–11</a>; <a href ="../john/12.htm#12">John 12:12–19</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And, having said these things, He was journeying on before, going up to Jerusalem.<p> <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And it came to pass that, as He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the <i>mount</i> of Olives, He sent two of His disciples, <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>saying, <FR>"Go your way into the village over against <i>you</i>, in which <i>as ye are</i> entering, ye will find a colt tied, on which no man ever sat; and, having loosed him, bring him.<Fr> <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span><FR>And, if any one ask you, 'Why do ye loose him?' thus shall ye say, 'Because the Lord hath need of him.'"<Fr> <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And those sent, having gone away, found even as He said to them. <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And, as they were loosing the colt, his owners said to them, "Why loose ye the colt?" <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And they said, The Lord hath need of him." <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And they led him to Jesus; and, having thrown their garments upon the colt, they sat Jesus thereon. <A name="37"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>And, as He was going forward, they were spreading their garments in the way. <A name="38"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And, as He was already drawing nigh to the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples, rejoicing, began to praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they saw;<p> <A name="39"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>saying, "Blessed <i>is</i> the King Who is coming in the name of the Lord!
