And there was a man there, and his right hand was withered. <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And the scribes and Pharisees were watching Him, whether He would heal on the sabbath: that they might find how to accuse Him. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>But He knew their thoughts; and He said to the man having the withered hand, <FR>"Arise, and stand forth in the midst."<Fr> And, rising up, he stood. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And Jesus said to them, <FR>"I ask you, is it lawful on the sabbath to do good, or to do evil?to save a soul, or to destroy <i>it</i>?"<Fr> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And, looking round upon them all, He said to him, <FR>"Stretch forth your hand."<Fr> And he did so, and his hand was restored. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>But they were filled with madness, and were conferring one with another as to what they should do to Jesus.<p> <A name="13"></a><p class="hdg">The Twelve Apostles<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/10.htm">Matthew 10:1&#8211;4</a>; <a href ="../mark/3.htm#13">Mark 3:13&#8211;19</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And it came to pass in those days, that He went out into the mountain to pray; and He was spending the whole night in prayer to God. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And when it became day, He called His disciples; and, having selected twelve from them, (whom He also called apostles): <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Simon whom He also called Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>and Matthew, and Thomas, and James <i>son</i> of Alphaeus, and Simon who is called Zelotes, <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>and Judas <i>son</i> of James, and Judas Iscariot who became a betrayer;<p> <A name="18"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Heals the Multitudes<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/4.htm#23">Matthew 4:23&#8211;25</a>; <a href ="../mark/3.htm#7">Mark 3:7&#8211;12</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>and, descending with them, He stood upon a level place; and a large multitude of His disciples, and a great number of the people from all Judaea and Jerusalem, and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, were present, who came to hear Him, and to be healed of their diseases; <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>and those troubled with unclean spirits were being healed; <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>and all the multitude were seeking to touch Him; because power was coming forth from Him, and was healing <i>them</i> all.<p> <A name="21"></a><p class="hdg">The Beatitudes<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/5.htm#3">Matthew 5:3&#8211;12</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And He, lifting up His eyes on His disciples, said, <FR>"Happy, ye poor; because yours is the Kingdom of God.<Fr> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span><FR>"Happy, ye who are hungering now; because ye will be filled.
