The LORD our God has not sent you to say, 'You are not to enter Egypt to reside there';</span></td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/43-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span><span class="btext4">Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the LORD our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:</span></td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/43-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span><span class="btext5">then Azariah son of Hoshaiah, Johanan son of Kareah, and all the other arrogant men responded to Jeremiah, "You are speaking a lie! of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces, and all the people, did not obey the voice of the LORD to stay in the land of Judah.</span></td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/43-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span><span class="btext4">So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the href="/jeremiah/43-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span><span class="btext4">But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, that were returned from all nations, the son of Shaphan--the men, the women, the children and the king's daughters. As a shepherd picks his garment clean of lice, so he will pick Egypt clean and depart.</span></td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/43-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span><span class="btext2">I shall kindle a fire in the temples of the gods of Egypt, and he shall burn them and carry them away captive.
