Come<MG1205> to the wedding<MG1062> feast<MG1062>!”’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>But they paid<MG272> no<MG272> attention<MG272> and went<MG565> their <i>separate</i> ways<MG565>, one<MG3739> to his own<MG2398> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>farm<MG68>, another<MG3739, 1161> to his business<MG1711>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>and the rest<MG3062> seized<MG2902> his slaves<MG1401> and treated<MG5195> them abusively<MG5195>, and <i>then</i> killed<MG615> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Now the king<MG935> was<MG3710> angry<MG3710>, and he sent<MG3992> his armies<MG4753> and destroyed<MG622> those<MG1565> murderers<MG5406> and set<MG1705b> their city<MG4172> on<MG1705b> fire<MG1705b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> he *said<MG3004> to his slaves<MG1401>, ‘The wedding<MG1062> feast<MG1062> is ready<MG2092>, but those<MG3588> who were invited<MG2564> were not worthy<MG514>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>So<MG3767> go<MG4198> to the main<MG1327b> roads<MG3598>, and invite<MG2564> whomever<MG3745, 1437> you find<MG2147> <i>there</i> to the wedding<MG1062> feast<MG1062>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Those<MG1565> slaves<MG1401> went<MG1831> out<MG1831> into the streets<MG3598> and gathered<MG4863> together<MG4863> all<MG3956> whom<MG3739> they found<MG2147>, both<MG5037> bad<MG4190> and good<MG18>; and the wedding<MG3567> hall<MG3567> was filled<MG4092a> with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>dinner<MG345> guests<MG345>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>“But when the king<MG935> came<MG1525> in<MG1525> to look<MG2300> over<MG2300> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>dinner<MG345> guests<MG345>, he saw<MG3708> a man<MG444> there<MG1563> who was not dressed<MG1746a> in wedding<MG1062> clothes<MG1742>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>and he *said<MG3004> to him, ‘Friend<MG2083>, how<MG4459> did you get<MG1525> in<MG1525> here<MG5602> without<MG3361, 2192> wedding<MG1062> clothes<MG1742>?’ And the man was speechless<MG5392>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> the king<MG935> said<MG3004> to the servants<MG1249>, ‘Tie<MG1210> his hands<MG5495> and feet<MG4228>, and throw<MG1544b> him into the outer<MG1857> darkness<MG4655>; there will be weeping<MG2805> and gnashing<MG1030> of teeth<MG3599> in<MG1563> that<MG1563> place<MG1563>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>For many<MG4183> are <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>called<MG2822>, but few<MG3641> <i>are</i> chosen<MG1588>.” <p class="hdg">Poll-tax to Caesar</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> the Pharisees<MG5330> went<MG4198> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>plotted<MG4824, 2983> together<MG4824> how<MG3704> they might trap<MG3802> Him <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>in what He said<MG3056>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And they *sent<MG649> their disciples<MG3101> to Him, along with the Herodians<MG2265>, saying<MG3004>, “Teacher<MG1320>, we know<MG3609a> that You are truthful<MG227> and teach<MG1321> the way<MG3598> of God<MG2316> in truth<MG225>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>do not care<MG3199> what anyone<MG3762> thinks; for You <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>are not partial<MG991, 4383> to anyone<MG3762>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Tell<MG3004> us then<MG3767>, what<MG5101> do You think<MG1380>? Is it <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>permissible<MG1832> to pay<MG1325> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>poll-tax<MG2778b> to Caesar<MG2541>, or<MG2228> not?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>But Jesus<MG2424> perceived<MG1097> their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>malice<MG4189>, and said<MG3004>, “Why<MG5101> are you testing<MG3985> Me, you hypocrites<MG5273>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Show<MG1925> Me the coin<MG3546> <i>used</i> for the poll-tax<MG2778b>.” And they brought<MG4374> Him a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>denarius<MG1220>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And He *said<MG3004> to them, “Whose<MG5101> image<MG1504> and inscription<MG1923> is this<MG3778>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>They *said<MG3004> to Him, “Caesar’s<MG2541>.” Then<MG5119> He *said<MG3004> to them, “Then<MG3767> pay<MG591> to Caesar<MG2541> the things that are Caesar’s<MG2541>; and to God<MG2316> the things that are God’s<MG2316>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And hearing<MG191> <i>this,</i> they were amazed<MG2296>; and they left<MG863> Him and went<MG565> away<MG565>. <p class="hdg">Jesus Answers the Sadducees</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>On that day<MG2250> <i>some</i> Sadducees<MG4523> (who say<MG3004> there is no<MG3361> resurrection<MG386>) came<MG4334> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>Jesus and questioned<MG1905> Him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>saying<MG3004>, “Teacher<MG1320>, Moses<MG3475> said<MG3004>, ‘If<MG1437> a man<MG5100> dies<MG599> having<MG2192> no<MG3361> children<MG5043>, his brother<MG80> as<MG1918> next<MG1918> of<MG1918> kin<MG1918> shall marry<MG1918> his wife<MG1135>, and raise<MG450> up<MG450> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>children<MG4690> for his brother<MG80>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> there were seven<MG2033> brothers<MG80> among<MG3844> us; and the first<MG4413> married<MG1060> and died<MG5053>, and having<MG2192> no<MG3361> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>children<MG4690>, he left<MG863> his wife<MG1135> to his brother<MG80>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span><i>It was</i> the same<MG3668> also<MG2532> <i>with</i> the second<MG1208> <i>brother,</i> and the third<MG5154>, down<MG2193> to<MG2193> the seventh<MG2033>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Last<MG5305> of all<MG3956>, the woman<MG1135> died<MG599>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>In the resurrection<MG386>, therefore<MG3767>, whose<MG5101> wife<MG1135> of the seven<MG2033> will she be? For they all<MG3956> had<MG2192> her <i>in marriage.</i>” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>But Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to them, “You are mistaken<MG4105>, since you do not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>understand<MG3609a> the Scriptures<MG1124> nor<MG3366> the power<MG1411> of God<MG2316>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>For in the resurrection<MG386> they neither<MG3777> marry<MG1060> nor<MG3777> are given<MG1061a> in<MG1061a> marriage<MG1061a>, but are like<MG5613> angels<MG32a> in heaven<MG3772>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>But regarding<MG4012> the resurrection<MG386> of the dead<MG3498>, have you not read<MG314> what<MG3588> was spoken<MG3004> to you by God<MG2316>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>‘I AM<MG1510> THE GOD<MG2316> OF ABRAHAM<MG11>, THE GOD<MG2316> OF ISAAC<MG2464>, AND THE GOD<MG2316> OF JACOB<MG2384>’? He is not the God<MG2316> of the dead<MG3498>, but of the living<MG2198>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>When the crowds<MG3793> heard<MG191> <i>this,</i> they were astonished<MG1605> at His teaching<MG1322>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>But when the Pharisees<MG5330> heard<MG191> that <i>Jesus</i> had silenced<MG5392> the Sadducees<MG4523>, they gathered<MG4863> together<MG1909, 3588, 846>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And one<MG1520> of them, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>a lawyer<MG3544>, asked<MG1905> Him a<MG1905> question<MG1905>, testing<MG3985> Him: <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>“Teacher<MG1320>, which<MG4169> is the great<MG3173> commandment<MG1785> in the Law<MG3551>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And He said<MG5346> to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE<MG25> THE LORD<MG2962> YOUR GOD<MG2316> WITH ALL<MG3650> YOUR HEART<MG2588>, AND WITH ALL<MG3650> YOUR SOUL<MG5590>, AND WITH ALL<MG3650> YOUR MIND<MG1271>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>This<MG3778> is the great<MG3173> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>foremost<MG4413> commandment<MG1785>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>The second<MG1208> is like<MG3664> it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE<MG25> YOUR NEIGHBOR<MG4139> AS YOURSELF<MG4572>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>Upon these<MG3778> two<MG1417> commandments<MG1785> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>hang<MG2910> the whole<MG3650> Law<MG3551> and the Prophets<MG4396>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> while the Pharisees<MG5330> were gathered<MG4863> together<MG4863>, Jesus<MG2424> asked<MG1905> them a<MG1905> question<MG1905>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/22-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>“What<MG5101> do you think<MG1380> about<MG4012> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>Christ<MG5547>?
