This has not prevented those closest to his philosophy from seeing in his critique of religion a declaration of atheism, nor has his absolute idealism appear to the most critical eyes as a kind of buried pantheism, suspiciously akin to what Heine called «the secret religion of Germany». The purpose of this article is to show the misunderstandings that underlie these interpretations, analyzing the passages that have contributed to give rise to them. Among which stands out the famous eulogy to Spinoza of the Berlin Lessons, erroneously taken as a declaration of pantheistic faith. Spinoza aparece en esta obra como el único pensador de la historia que logró producir un sistema auténticamente filosófico. Contra la tendencia generalizada de la época, que combatía al spinozismo y denunciaba sus inconsistencias, sus peligros, sus absurdos, el joven Hegel, recién llegado a Jena, interpreta a Spinoza de un modo completamente original. Elogia, principalmente, la noción de sustancia que se presenta como una auténtica antinomia de la razón —y no como un concepto unilateral del entendimiento. The French materialist critics – Althusser, Macherey, Deleuze – pointed out that Hegel reduced Spinoza’s system to a mere variation of Neoplatonic hierarchical ontology. The author argues that these critics themselves reduced Hegel to a simple inversion of Neoplatonic order. This mutual misreading nevertheless proves to be a productive one insofar as it revolves around key topics: critique of the philosophy of identity, rejection of emanative causality, and a concept of primordial difference.
