Tilsvarende målinger hadde tidligere blitt gjort av den engelske naturviter <a href="/wiki/Henry_Cavendish" title="Henry Cavendish">Henry Cavendish</a>, men ble først kjent etter hans død. </p><p>Det er ennå ikke helt forstått hvorfor både Newtons gravitasjonslov og Coulombs elektriske lov gir krefter som avtar med avstanden.
