Reimer: blacksmith and <a href="/index.php?title=Church_of_God_in_Christ,_Mennonite_(CGC)" title="Church of God in Christ, Mennonite (CGC)">Holdeman</a> deacon; born on 3 September 1841 in Rosenort,<a href="/index.php?title=Molotschna_Mennonite_Settlement_(Zaporizhia_Oblast,_Ukraine)" title="Molotschna Mennonite Settlement (Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine)"> Molotschna Colony</a>, Russia, to Abraham and Elisabeth (Rempel) Reimer as the third of eight children.  He and his brother apprenticed with the village blacksmith, a trade they further developed in Kleefeld, Molotschna, then Blumenhof, <a href="/index.php?title=Borozenko_Mennonite_Settlement_(Dnipropetrovsk_Oblast,_Ukraine)" title="Borozenko Mennonite Settlement (Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Ukraine)">Borozenko</a> and later in <a href="/index.php?title=Canada" title="Canada">Canada</a>. He was baptized in 1860 in <a href="/index.php?title=Russia" title="Russia">Russia</a>, joining the <a href="/index.php?title=Kleine_Gemeinde" title="Kleine Gemeinde">Mennonite Kleinegemeinde</a>, and later that year, he married Helena Poetger (1841-1866). They had five children, two of whom died young. After Helena’s death, Abraham married Maria Reimer (1847-1916) on 14 October 1866. They had 13 children, all of whom survived childhood. The family immigrated to Canada in 1874, where they settled at Blumenort in the <a href="/index.php?title=East_Reserve_(Manitoba,_Canada)" title="East Reserve (Manitoba, Canada)">Manitoba Mennonite East Reserve</a>. </p><p>On 21 January 1883, Abraham R. Reimer was elected as a deacon in the newly founded Holdeman Church. He was a village representative for Blumenort at municipal gatherings for over a year.
