Players control <a href="/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_(character)" title="Sonic the Hedgehog (character)">Sonic the Hedgehog</a>, who must stop <a href="/wiki/Doctor_Robotnik" class="mw-redirect" title="Doctor Robotnik">Doctor Robotnik</a> from enslaving the population in a giant pinball-like mechanism.
