<span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>and <i>there must be no</i> filthiness<MG151> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>or foolish<MG3473> talk<MG3473>, or<MG2228> vulgar<MG2160> joking<MG2160>, which<MG3739> are not fitting<MG433>, but rather<MG3123> giving<MG2169> of<MG2169> thanks<MG2169>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>For this<MG3778> you know<MG3609a> with certainty<MG1097>, that no<MG3756, 3956> sexually<MG4205> immoral<MG4205> or<MG2228> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>impure<MG169> or<MG2228> greedy<MG4123> person<MG4123>, which<MG3739> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>amounts to an idolater<MG1496>, has<MG2192> an inheritance<MG2817> in the kingdom<MG932> of Christ<MG5547> and God<MG2316>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span><i>See that</i> no<MG3367> one<MG3367> deceives<MG538> you with empty<MG2756> words<MG3056>, for because<MG1223> of these<MG3778> things<MG3778> the wrath<MG3709> of God<MG2316> comes<MG2064> upon the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>sons<MG5207> of disobedience<MG543>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767> do not become<MG1096> partners<MG4830> with them; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>for you were once<MG4218> darkness<MG4655>, but now<MG3568> you are light<MG5457> in the Lord<MG2962>; walk<MG4043> as children<MG5043> of light<MG5457> <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>(for the fruit<MG2590> of the light<MG5457> <i>consists</i> in all<MG3956> goodness<MG19b>, righteousness<MG1343>, and truth<MG225>), <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>as you try<MG1381a> to<MG1381a> learn<MG1381a> what<MG5101> is pleasing<MG2101> to the Lord<MG2962>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Do not participate<MG4790> in the useless<MG175> deeds<MG2041> of darkness<MG4655>, but instead<MG3123> even<MG2532> expose<MG1651> them; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>for it is disgraceful<MG150> even<MG2532> to speak<MG3004> of the things which are done<MG1096> by them in<MG2931b> secret<MG2931b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But all<MG3956> things<MG3956> become<MG5319> visible<MG5319> when they are exposed<MG1651> by the light<MG5457>, for everything<MG3956> that becomes<MG5319> visible<MG5319> is light<MG5457>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>For this<MG1352> reason<MG1352> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>it says<MG3004>, <p class="indent1stline">“Awake<MG1453>, sleeper<MG2518>, <t><p class="indent1">And arise<MG450> from the dead<MG3498>, <t><p class="indent1">And Christ<MG5547> will shine<MG2017> on<MG2017> you.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>So<MG3767> then<MG3767>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>be careful<MG991, 199> how<MG4459> you walk<MG4043>, not as unwise<MG781> people<MG781> but as wise<MG4680>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>making<MG1805> the<MG1805> most<MG1805> of<MG1805> your time<MG2540>, because<MG3754> the days<MG2250> are evil<MG4190>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Therefore<MG1223, 3778> do not be foolish<MG878>, but understand<MG4920> what<MG5101> the will<MG2307> of the Lord<MG2962> <i>is.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And do not get<MG3182> drunk<MG3182> with wine<MG3631>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>in which there is debauchery<MG810>, but be filled<MG4137> with the Spirit<MG4151>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>speaking<MG2980> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>one<MG1438> another<MG1438> in psalms<MG5568> and hymns<MG5215> and spiritual<MG4152> songs<MG5603>, singing<MG103> and making<MG5567> melody<MG5567> with your hearts<MG2588> to the Lord<MG2962>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>always<MG3842> giving<MG2168> thanks<MG2168> for all<MG3956> things<MG3956> in the name<MG3686> of our Lord<MG2962> Jesus<MG2424> Christ<MG5547> to <i>our</i> God<MG2316> and Father<MG3962>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>and subject<MG5293> yourselves<MG5293> to one<MG240> another<MG240> in the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>fear<MG5401> of Christ<MG5547>. <p class="hdg">Marriage like Christ and the Church</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Wives<MG1135>, <i>subject yourselves</i> to your own<MG2398> husbands<MG435>, as to the Lord<MG2962>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>For the husband<MG435> is the head<MG2776> of the wife<MG1135>, as Christ<MG5547> also<MG2532> is the head<MG2776> of the church<MG1577>, He Himself<MG846> <i>being</i> the Savior<MG4990> of the body<MG4983>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>But as the church<MG1577> is<MG5293> subject<MG5293> to Christ<MG5547>, so<MG3779> also<MG2532> the wives<MG1135> <i>ought to be</i> to their husbands<MG435> in everything<MG3956>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Husbands<MG435>, love<MG25> your wives<MG1135>, just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> Christ<MG5547> also<MG2532> loved<MG25> the church<MG1577> and gave<MG3860> Himself<MG1438> up<MG3860> for her, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>so<MG2443> that<MG2443> He might sanctify<MG37> her, having cleansed<MG2511> her by the washing<MG3067> of water<MG5204> with the word<MG4487>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ephesians/5-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>that He might present<MG3936> to Himself<MG1438> the church<MG1577> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>in all<MG1741> her glory<MG1741>, having<MG2192> no<MG3361> spot<MG4696> or<MG2228> wrinkle<MG4512> or<MG2228> any<MG5100> such<MG5108> thing<MG5108>;
