and came seeking fruit on it and found none;<Fr> <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span><FR>and he said to the vinedresser, Behold, three years from which I come seeking fruit on this fig-tree, and I find none: cut it down; why indeed does it cumber the ground?<Fr> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><FR>And responding he says to him, Lord, let it alone also this year, until I shall dig about it, and cast manures:<Fr> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span><FR>and if it may bear fruit in the future; and if not you shall cut it down.<Fr><p> <A name="11"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Heals a Disabled Woman<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And behold, a woman having a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and not at all able to straighten up. <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And Jesus seeing her, called to her, and said, <FR>Woman, thou art loosed from thy infirmity:<Fr> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>and He placed His hands on her: and immediately she straightened up, and continued to glorify God. <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And the chief ruler of the synagogue, responding, being grieved because Jesus healed on the Sabbath, said to the multitude, There are six days in which it behooveth us to work: therefore during these, coming, be healed, and not on the Sabbath-day. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And the Lord responded to him, and said, <FR>Ye hypocrites, does not each one of you loose his ox or his donkey from the stall, and leading him away, give him water on the Sabbath?<Fr> <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><FR>Did it not behoove this one, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound, lo, these eighteen years, to be loosed from this bondage on the Sabbath-day?<Fr> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And He speaking these things, all opposing Him became ashamed: and the whole multitude rejoiced over all the illustrious works wrought by Him.<p> <A name="19"></a><p class="hdg">The Parable of the Mustard Seed<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/13.htm#31">Matthew 13:31&#8211;32</a>; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of heaven lodged in its branches.<Fr><p> <A name="21"></a><p class="hdg">The Parable of the Leaven<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/13.htm#33">Matthew 13:33</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And again He said, <FR>To what shall I liken the kingdom of God?<Fr> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span><FR>It is like leaven, which a woman having taken, hid in three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened.<Fr><p> <A name="23"></a><p class="hdg">The Narrow Door<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/7.htm#13">Matthew 7:13&#8211;14</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And He was journeying through cities and villages, teaching, and making His journey towards Jerusalem. <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And one said to Him, Lord, are the saved few? And He said to them, <A name="25"></a><span class="red"><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span><FR>Agonize to enter in through the narrow gate: because many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and will not be able.<Fr> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span><FR>When the landlord may rise up, and close the door, and you may begin to stand without, and knock at the door, saying, Lord, open unto us; and responding he will say unto you, I know not whence you are.<Fr> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span><FR>Then you will begin to say, We ate and drank in thy presence, and thou didst preach in our streets.<Fr> <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span><FR>And he will say, I tell you, I know you not whence you are; depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.<Fr> <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span><FR>And there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you cast out.<Fr> <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span><FR>And they will come from the east and west, and the north and south, and will sit down in the kingdom of God.<Fr> <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span><FR>And behold, the last shall be first, and the first shall be last.<Fr><p> <A name="32"></a><p class="hdg">Lament over Jerusalem<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/23.htm#37">Matthew 23:37&#8211;39</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>At that hour certain Pharisees came to Him, saying; Depart, and go hence: because Herod wishes to slay thee. <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And He said to them, <FR>Having gone, tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perfect healings to-day and to-morrow, and on the third day I am made perfect.<Fr> <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span><FR>Moreover it behooves Me to travel to-day and to-morrow and the day following: because it does not behoove a prophet to perish outside of Jerusalem.<Fr> <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span><FR>O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them that have been sent unto thee! how frequently did I wish to gather thy children, in the manner in which a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye were not willing!<Fr> <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/13-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span><FR>Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
