<p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Spectroscopy has been widely used to understand the hyperspectral remote sensing of soils. Accurate and efficient measurement of soil moisture is essential for precision agriculture. The aim of this study was to understand the spectral behavior of soil at different soil water content levels and identify the significant spectral bands for soil moisture content retrieval at field-scale. The study consisted of 60 soil samples from a maize farm, divided into four different treatments representing different moisture levels. Spectral signatures were measured for each sample in laboratory under artificial light using an Analytical Spectral Device (ASD) spectrometer, covering a wavelength range from 350 nm to 2500 nm, with a spectral resolution of 1 nm. The results showed that the absorption features at 1450 nm, 1900 nm, and 2200 nm were particularly sensitive to soil moisture content and exhibited strong correlations with the water content levels. Continuum removal was developed in the R programming language to enhance the absorption features of soil moisture and to precisely understand its spectral behavior at different water content levels. Statistical analysis using partial least squares regression (PLSR) models were performed to quantify the correlation between the spectral bands and soil moisture content. This study provides insights into the spectral behavior of soil at different water content levels and identifies the significant spectral bands for soil moisture content retrieval. The findings highlight the potential of spectroscopy for non-destructive and rapid soil moisture measurement, which can be applied to various fields such as precision agriculture, hydrology, and environmental monitoring. However, it is important to note that the spectral behavior of soil can be influenced by various factors such as soil type, texture, and organic matter content, and caution should be taken when applying the results to other soil systems. The results of this study showed a good agreement between measured and predicted values of Soil Moisture Content with high R2 and low root mean square error (RMSE) values. Model validation using independent data was satisfactory for all the studied soil samples. The results has significant implications for developing high-resolution and precise field-scale soil moisture retrieval models. These models can be used to understand the spatial and temporal variation of soil moisture content in agricultural fields, which is essential for managing irrigation and optimizing crop yield. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soil%20moisture%20content%20retrieval" title="soil moisture content retrieval">soil moisture content retrieval</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=precision%20agriculture" title=" precision agriculture"> precision agriculture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continuum%20removal" title=" continuum removal"> continuum removal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=remote%20sensing" title=" remote sensing"> remote sensing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectroscopy" title=" spectroscopy"> spectroscopy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168913/linking-soil-spectral-behavior-and-moisture-content-for-soil-moisture-content-retrieval-at-field-scale" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168913.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">99</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">72</span> A Block World Problem Based Sudoku Solver</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luciana%20Abednego">Luciana Abednego</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Nugraheni"> Cecilia Nugraheni</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> There are many approaches proposed for solving Sudoku puzzles. One of them is by modelling the puzzles as block world problems. There have been three model for Sudoku solvers based on this approach. The idea is that the waste stream from edible oil industry, after the separation of oil by using skimmers is subjected to microfiltration and the obtained permeate can be used again in the production process. The wastewater from edible oil industry was used for the microfiltration. For the microfiltration of this effluent a tubular membrane was used with a pore size of 200 nm at transmembrane pressure in range up to 3 bar and in range of flow rate up to 300 L/h. Box–Behnken design was selected for the experimental work and the responses considered were permeate flux and chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction. The reduction of the permeate COD was in the range 40-60% according to the feed. The highest permeate flux achieved during the process of microfiltration was 160 L/m2h. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ceramic%20membrane" title="ceramic membrane">ceramic membrane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=edible%20oil" title=" edible oil"> edible oil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microfiltration" title=" microfiltration"> microfiltration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wastewater" title=" wastewater"> wastewater</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40236/edible-oil-industry-wastewater-treatment-by-microfiltration-with-ceramic-membrane" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40236.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">299</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">70</span> Newly Developed Epoxy-Polyol and Epoxy- Polyurethane from Renewable Resources</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akintayo%20Emmanuel%20Temitope">Akintayo Emmanuel Temitope</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akintayo%20Cecilia%20Olufunke"> Akintayo Cecilia Olufunke</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ziegler%20Thomas"> Ziegler Thomas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Bio-polyols are important components in polyurethane industries. The preliminary studies into the synthesis of bio-polyol products (epoxy-polyol and epoxyl-polyurethanes) from Jatropha curcas were investigated. The reactions were followed by both infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance. Physico-chemical characterisation of the samples for iodine value (IV), acid value (AV), saponification value (SV) and hydroxyl value (HV) were carried out. Thermal transitions of the products were studied by heating 5 mg of the sample from 20ºC to 800ºC and then cooling down to -500ºC on a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The preparation of epoxylpolyol and polyurethane from Jatropha curcas oil was smooth and efficient. Results of film and solubility properties revealed that coatings of Jatropha curcas epoxy-polyurethanes performed better with increased loading of toluylene 2, 4-diisocyanate (TDI) up to 2 wt% while their solvent resistance decreased beyond a TDI loading of 1.2 wt%. DSC analysis shows the epoxy-polyurethane to be less stable compared to the epoxy-polyol. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=synthesis" title="synthesis">synthesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=epoxy-polyol" title=" epoxy-polyol"> epoxy-polyol</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=epoxy-polyurethane" title=" epoxy-polyurethane"> epoxy-polyurethane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=jatropha%20curcas%20oil" title=" jatropha curcas oil"> jatropha curcas oil</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/6080/newly-developed-epoxy-polyol-and-epoxy-polyurethane-from-renewable-resources" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/6080.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">420</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">69</span> Exploring the Impact of Location on Urban and Peri-Urban Farming: A Case Study from Lusaka, Zambia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Elisabeth%20F%C3%A5hraeus">Cecilia Elisabeth Fåhraeus</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In 2016, this author conducted a study on agricultural livelihoods in urban and peri-urban low-income settings in Lusaka, Zambia. The overarching aim was to determine the impact of physical space on agricultural activities, with a particular emphasis on geographical distinctions between urban and peri-urban environments. Agricultural activities among the areas’ residents were mapped through questionnaires, interviews and observations, and included variables such as type of activity and product; degree of marketization; inputs; location of production, storage and vending; labour distribution; production constraints, and associated mobility patterns, among others. The study confirmed that spatial idiosyncrasies of urban and peri-urban environments both enabled and constrained agricultural activity, but not always as anticipated. There were also cross-cutting issues on which physical space appeared to have a limited impact. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agricultural%20production%20systems" title="agricultural production systems">agricultural production systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geography" title=" geography"> geography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low-income%20settlements" title=" low-income settlements"> low-income settlements</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lusaka" title=" Lusaka"> Lusaka</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peri-urban" title=" peri-urban"> peri-urban</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban" title=" urban"> urban</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61787/exploring-the-impact-of-location-on-urban-and-peri-urban-farming-a-case-study-from-lusaka-zambia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61787.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">330</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">68</span> Meeting the Parents on Facebook : A Case Study of the Swedish Social Insurance Agency’s Social Media Use</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Teljas">Cecilia Teljas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Many government agencies use social media to supplement their traditional communication channels. Government agencies are typically risk-averse, which makes social media practices problematic. However, this case study of the social media use of the Swedish social insurance agency shows considerable bi-directional communication between the agency and the public. On one hand, the agency’s aims, strategies, ways of working and experiences related to its social media communication practice are analyzed. On the other hand, the communication by both the agency and the public is studied on one of the agency’s Facebook pages. The results showed that it is possible for an agency to provide relevant and accurate information in real-time in social media if identifying and addressing different segments separately. Furthermore, as a result of context adaption this communication was rather informal and the practice can be considered to manifest positive democratic effects due to the increased availability and inclusion. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=e-government" title="e-government">e-government</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20media" title=" social media"> social media</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=case%20study" title=" case study"> case study</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discourse%20analysis" title=" discourse analysis"> discourse analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37220/meeting-the-parents-on-facebook-a-case-study-of-the-swedish-social-insurance-agencys-social-media-use" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37220.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">429</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">67</span> Hand Hygiene Habits of Ghanaian Youths in Accra</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Amponsem-Boateng">Cecilia Amponsem-Boateng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Timothy%20B.%20Oppong"> Timothy B. Since the hand is in constant contact with fomites which have been proven to be mostly contaminated, building hand hygiene habits is essential for the prevention of infection. This research was conducted to assess the hand hygiene habits of Ghanaian youths in Accra. This study used a survey as a quantitative method of research. The findings of the study revealed that out of the 254 participants who fully answered the questionnaire, 22% had the habit of washing their hands after outings while only 51.6% had the habit of washing their hands after using the bathroom. However, about 60% of the participants said they sometimes ate with their hands while 28.9% had the habit of eating with the hand very often, a situation that put them at risk of infection from their hands since some participants had poor handwashing habits; prompting the need for continuous education on hand hygiene. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hand%20hygiene" title="hand hygiene">hand hygiene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hand%20hygiene%20habit" title=" hand hygiene habit"> hand hygiene habit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hand%20washing" title=" hand washing"> hand washing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hand%20sanitizer%20use" title=" hand sanitizer use"> hand sanitizer use</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159334/hand-hygiene-habits-of-ghanaian-youths-in-accra" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159334.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">108</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">66</span> Agro-Industrial Waste as a Source of Catalyst Production</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brenda%20Cecilia%20Ledesma">Brenda Cecilia Ledesma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrea%20Beltramone"> Andrea Beltramone</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This work deals with the bio-waste valorization approach for catalyst development, the use of products derived from biomass as raw material and the obtaining of biofuels. In this research, activated carbons were synthesized from the orange peel using different synthesis conditions. With the activated carbons obtained with the best structure and texture, PtIr bimetallic catalysts were prepared. Carbon activation was carried out through a chemical process with phosphoric acid as an activating agent, varying the acid concentration, the ratio substrate/activating agent and time of contact between them. The best support was obtained using a carbonization time of 1 h, the temperature of carbonization of 470oC, the phosphoric acid concentration of 50 wt.% and a BET area of 1429 m2/g. Subsequently, the metallic nanoparticles were deposited in the activated carbon to use the solid as a catalytic material for the hydrogenation of HMF to 2,5-DMF. The catalyst presented an excellent performance for biofuels generation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=orange%20peel" title="orange peel">orange peel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bio-waste%20valorization" title=" bio-waste valorization"> bio-waste valorization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=platinum" title=" platinum"> platinum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=iridium" title=" iridium"> iridium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=5-hydroxymethylfurfural" title="5-hydroxymethylfurfural">5-hydroxymethylfurfural</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/142523/agro-industrial-waste-as-a-source-of-catalyst-production" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/142523.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">195</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">65</span> iCCS: Development of a Mobile Web-Based Student Integrated Information System using Hill Climbing Algorithm</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20Cecilia%20G.%20Cantos">Maria Cecilia G. However, marketing activities remain limited in this industry, and businesses are unable to disseminate promotional messages, however, as a solution, firms can promote their brands and positioning instead of the actual product (Bick, 2015). Branding is essential to create differences among cannabis firms and to attract and keep customers (Abrahamsson, 2014). Building cannabis firms into brands can better position them in the mind of the consumer so that they become and remain competitive. The aim of this study was to explore how South African cannabis retailers can build brand equity in a stigmatised market, despite significant restrictions on marketing efforts. Keller’s (2001) customer-based brand equity (CBBE) model was used as the as the theoretical framework and explored how cannabis firms build their businesses into brands through developing their brand identity, meaning, performance, and relationships, and ultimately creating brand equity. The study employed a qualitative research method, using semi-structured in-depth interviews among 17 participants to gain insights from cannabis owners and marketers in the recreational cannabis environment. Most findings were presented according to the blocks of CBBE model. Furthermore, a conceptual framework named the stigma-based brand equity (SBBE) model was adapted from Keller’s CBBE model to include an additional building block that accounts for industry-specific characteristics unique to stigmatised markets. Findings revealed the pervasiveness of education and its significance to brand building in a stigmatised industry. Results also demonstrated the overall effect stigma has on businesses and their consumers due to the longstanding negative evaluations of cannabis. Hence, through stigma-bonding, brands can develop deep identity-related psychological bonds with their consumers that will potentially lead to strong brand resonance. This study aims to contribute business-relevant knowledge for firms operating in core-stigmatised markets under controlled marketing regulations by exploring how cannabis firms can build brand equity. Practically, this study presents recommendations for retailers in stigmatised markets on how to destigmatise, build brand identity, create brand meaning, elicit desired brand responses, and develop brand relationships – ultimately building brand equity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=branding" title="branding">branding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=brand%20equity" title=" brand equity"> brand equity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cannabis" title=" cannabis"> cannabis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organisational%20stigma" title=" organisational stigma"> organisational stigma</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150931/building-brand-equity-in-a-stigmatised-market-a-cannabis-industry-case-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150931.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">101</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">63</span> Digitalization in Aggregate Quarries</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Eugenio%20Ortiz">José Eugenio Ortiz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pierre%20Plaza"> Pierre Plaza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Josefa%20Herrero"> Josefa Herrero</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iv%C3%A1n%20Cabria"> Iván Cabria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Luis%20Blanco"> José Luis Blanco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Javier%20Gavilanes"> Javier Gavilanes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Ignacio%20Escavy"> José Ignacio Escavy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ignacio%20L%C3%B3pez-Cilla"> Ignacio López-Cilla</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Virginia%20Yag%C3%BCe"> Virginia Yagüe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=C%C3%A9sar%20P%C3%A9rez"> César Pérez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Rodr%C3%ADguez"> Silvia Rodríguez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jorge%20Rico"> Jorge Rico</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Serrano"> Cecilia Serrano</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jes%C3%BAs%20Bernat"> Jesús Bernat</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The development of Artificial Intelligence services in mining processes, specifically in aggregate quarries, is facilitating automation and improving numerous aspects of operations. This is a couple with the low income of most residents and the government's policy of free basic water which is making rural water provision very difficult. With regard to cartage, the results reveal that the majority (84.4%) of the population covers distances of about 1kilometre to fetch water, and 15.6% travel up kilometer to access water facilities. This means that the water sources are located very far from households, outside the officially legislated array of 200metres. These are many reasons to account for this situation. Firstly, this implies that there are inadequate stand pipes to cater for all the homesteads scattered across the rugged terrain of OR Tambo District municipality. Secondly, and following from the first explanation, it would be seen that funding that is made available is not adequate, or is not efficiently spent on the targeted projects. The situation in the rural areas of South Africa is fraught with cumbersome complexity when it comes to service delivery. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water" title="water">water</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=management" title=" management"> management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=government" title=" government"> government</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rural" title=" rural"> rural</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57423/government-intervention-strategies-in-providing-water-to-rural-communities-in-the-o-r-tambo-district-municipality-south-africa" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57423.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">285</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">61</span> Kinetics, Equilibrium and Thermodynamics of the Adsorption of Triphenyltin onto NanoSiO₂/Fly Ash/Activated Carbon Composite</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olushola%20S.%20Ayanda">Olushola S. Equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed using Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm models. Pseudo first- and second-order, Elovich and fractional power models were applied to test the kinetic data and in order to understand the mechanism of adsorption, thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG°, ΔSo and ΔH° were also calculated. The results showed a very good compliance with pseudo second-order equation while the Freundlich and D-R models fit the experiment data. Approximately 99.999 % TPT was removed from the initial concentration of 100 mg/L TPT at 80oC, contact time of 60 min, pH 8 and a stirring speed of 200 rpm. Thus, nanoSiO2/fly ash/activated carbon composite could be used as effective adsorbent for the removal of TPT from contaminated water and wastewater. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=isotherm" title="isotherm">isotherm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=kinetics" title=" kinetics"> kinetics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanoSiO%E2%82%82%2Ffly%20ash%2Factivated%20carbon%20composite" title=" nanoSiO₂/fly ash/activated carbon composite"> nanoSiO₂/fly ash/activated carbon composite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tributyltin" title=" tributyltin"> tributyltin</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52321/kinetics-equilibrium-and-thermodynamics-of-the-adsorption-of-triphenyltin-onto-nanosio2fly-ashactivated-carbon-composite" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52321.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">293</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">60</span> The Effect of Virtual Reality Meditation on Science Education Students Academic Achievement</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Obi%20Nja">Cecilia Obi Nja</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of virtual reality meditation on science education undergraduate students’ academic achievement. It was in two parts: it compared the impact of meditation via virtual reality against video, as accessed by students’ mean scores. Secondly, the study examined the usefulness of meditation on the overall well-being of students through video or virtual reality. All the science education undergraduate students of the University of Calabar constituted the population of the study. Two research questions and hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The study employed a pretest–posttest design with the participants being randomly assigned to two groups. The sample size was 120. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) results showed that virtual reality meditation had a significantly higher benefit than video meditation. The results of the analysis also indicated that undergraduate students with both meditation techniques employed had decreased pre-exam anxiety. It was concluded that virtual reality meditation plays a major role in students’ academic achievement and test anxiety levels. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=consciousness" title="consciousness">consciousness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=academic%20achievement" title=" academic achievement"> academic achievement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=meditation" title=" meditation"> meditation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anxiety" title=" anxiety"> anxiety</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177006/the-effect-of-virtual-reality-meditation-on-science-education-students-academic-achievement" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177006.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">68</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">59</span> Breast Cancer Mortality and Comorbidities in Portugal: A Predictive Model Built with Real World Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cec%C3%ADlia%20M.%20Ant%C3%A3o">Cecília M. This retrospective observational study aimed at identifying comorbidities associated with BC female patients admitted to Portuguese public hospitals (2010-2018), investigating the effect of comorbidities on BC mortality rate, and building a predictive model using logistic regression. Results showed that the BC mortality in Portugal decreased in this period and reached 4.37% in 2018. Adjusted odds ratio indicated that secondary malignant neoplasms of liver, of bone and bone marrow, congestive heart failure, and diabetes were associated with an increased chance of dying from breast cancer. Although the Lisbon district (the most populated area) accounted for the largest percentage of BC patients, the logistic regression model showed that, besides patient’s age, being resident in Bragança, Castelo Branco, or Porto districts was directly associated with an increase of the mortality rate. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=breast%20cancer" title="breast cancer">breast cancer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comorbidities" title=" comorbidities"> comorbidities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=logistic%20regression" title=" logistic regression"> logistic regression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adjusted%20odds%20ratio" title=" adjusted odds ratio"> adjusted odds ratio</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143667/breast-cancer-mortality-and-comorbidities-in-portugal-a-predictive-model-built-with-real-world-data" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143667.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">87</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">58</span> Role of GM1 in the Interaction between Amyloid Prefibrillar Oligomers of Salmon Calcitonin and Model Membranes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cristiano%20Giordani">Cristiano Giordani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marco%20Diociaiuti"> Marco Diociaiuti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Bombelli"> Cecilia Bombelli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laura%20Zanetti-Polzi"> Laura Zanetti-Polzi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcello%20Belfiore"> Marcello Belfiore</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raoul%20Fioravanti"> Raoul Fioravanti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gianfranco%20Macchia"> Gianfranco Macchia</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We investigated induced functional effects by evaluating Ca2+-influx in liposomes and cell viability in HT22-DIFF neurons. Circular Dichroism showed that GM1 fostered the formation of β-structures and Energy Filtered-Transmission Electron Microscopy that PFOs formed “amyloid-channels” as reported for Aβ. We speculate that electrostatic forces occurring between the positive PFOs and negative GM1 drive the initial binding, while the hydrophobic profile of the flexible PFO is responsible for the subsequent pore formation. In such an emergency situation as the time of the covid-19 pandemic, the application of LMS (Learner Management System) in higher education is the most reasonable solution for students and teachers. In fact, the online learning requires all elements of a higher education systems, including the human resources, infrastructure, and supporting systems such as the application, server, and stable internet connection. The readiness of the higher education institution in preparing the online system may secure those who are involved in the online learning process. It may also result in students’ self-efficacy in online learning. This research aimed to investigate how students perceive their self-efficacy in online English learning, especially in speaking classes which is considered as a productive language skill. Dynamic accessibility which measures accessibility in real-time traffic environment has been an advanced accessibility indicator in transport research. It is also a useful indicator to help travelers to understand travel time daily variability, assists traffic engineers to monitor traffic congestions, and finally develop effective strategies in order to mitigate traffic congestions. This research involved real-time traffic information by collecting travel time data with 15-minute interval via the TomTom® API. A framework for measuring dynamic accessibility was then developed based on the gravity theory and accessibility dichotomy theory through space and time interpolation. Finally, the dynamic accessibility can be derived at any given time and location under dynamic accessibility spatial analysis framework. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20accessibility" title="dynamic accessibility">dynamic accessibility</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hot%20spot" title=" hot spot"> hot spot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transport%20research" title=" transport research"> transport research</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TomTom%C2%AE%20API" title=" TomTom® API"> TomTom® API</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66401/spatial-analysis-of-park-and-ride-users-dynamic-accessibility-to-train-station-a-case-study-in-perth" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66401.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">388</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">55</span> The Public Law Studies: Relationship Between Accountability, Environmental Education and Smart Cities</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aline%20Alves%20Bandeira">Aline Alves Bandeira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lu%C3%ADs%20Pedro%20Lima"> Luís Pedro Lima</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20Cec%C3%ADlia%20de%20Paula%20Silva"> Maria Cecília de Paula Silva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paulo%20Henrique%20de%20Viveiros%20Tavares"> Paulo Henrique de Viveiros Tavares</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nowadays, the study of public policies regarding management efficiency is essential. Public policies are about what governments do or do not do, being an area that has grown worldwide, contributing through the knowledge of technologies and methodologies that monitor and evaluate the performance of public administrators. The information published on official government websites needs to provide for transparency and responsiveness of managers. Thus, transparency is a primordial factor for the execution of Accountability, providing, in this way, services to the citizen with the expansion of transparent, efficient, democratic information and that value administrative eco-efficiency. The ecologically balanced management of a Smart City must optimize environmental education, building a fairer society, which brings about equality in the use of quality environmental resources. Smart Cities add value in the construction of public management, enabling interaction between people, enhancing environmental education and the practical applicability of administrative eco-efficiency, fostering economic development and improving the quality of life. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=accountability" title="accountability">accountability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environmental%20education" title=" environmental education"> environmental education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=new%20public%20administration" title=" new public administration"> new public administration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smart%20cities" title=" smart cities"> smart cities</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/140750/the-public-law-studies-relationship-between-accountability-environmental-education-and-smart-cities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/140750.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">128</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">54</span> Bioproduction of Phytohormones by Liquid Fermentation Using a Mexican Strain of Botryodiplodia theobromae</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laredo%20Alcal%C3%A1%20Elan%20I%C3%B1aky">Laredo Alcalá Elan Iñaky</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hernandez%20Castillo%20Daniel"> Hernandez Castillo Daniel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Martinez%20Hernandez%20Jos%C3%A9%20Luis"> Martinez Hernandez José Luis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arredondo%20Valdes%20Roberto"> Arredondo Valdes Roberto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gonzalez%20Gallegos%20Esmeralda"> Gonzalez Gallegos Esmeralda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anguiano%20Cabello%20Julia%20Cecilia"> Anguiano Cabello Julia Cecilia</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Plant hormones are a group of molecules that control different processes ranging from the growth and development of the plant until their response to biotic and abiotic stresses. In this study, the capacity of production of various phytohormones was evaluated from a strain of Botryodiplodia theobromae by liquid fermentation system using the modified Mierch medium added with a hydrolyzate compound of mead all in a reactor without agitation at 28 °C for 15 days. Quantification of the metabolites was performed using high performance liquid chromatography techniques. The results showed that a microbial broth with at least five different types of plant hormones was obtained: gibberellic acid, zeatin, kinetin, indoleacetic acid and jasmonic acid, the last one was higher than the others metabolites produced. The production of such hormones using a single type of microorganism could be in the future a great alternative to reduce production costs and similarly reduce the use of synthetic chemicals. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biosystem" title="biosystem">biosystem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plant%20hormones" title=" plant hormones"> plant hormones</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Botryodiplodia%20theobromae" title=" Botryodiplodia theobromae"> Botryodiplodia theobromae</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fermentation" title=" fermentation"> fermentation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43134/bioproduction-of-phytohormones-by-liquid-fermentation-using-a-mexican-strain-of-botryodiplodia-theobromae" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43134.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">403</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">53</span> Corporate Governance and Firms` Performance: Evidence from Quoted Firms on the Nigerian Stock Exchange</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ogunwole%20Cecilia%20Oluwakemi">Ogunwole Cecilia Oluwakemi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wahid%20Damilola%20Olanipekun"> Wahid Damilola Olanipekun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Omoyele%20Olufemi%20Samuel"> Omoyele Olufemi Samuel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Timothy%20Ayomitunde%20Aderemi"> Timothy Ayomitunde Aderemi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The issues relating to corporate governance in both locally and internationally managed firms cannot be overemphasized because the lack of efficient corporate governance could orchestrate serious problems in any organization. Against this backdrop, this study examines the nexus between corporate governance and performance of firms from 2012 to 2020, using the case study of the Nigerian stock exchange. Consequently, data was collected from forty (40) listed firms on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The study employed a fixed effect technique of estimation to address the objective of the study. It was discovered from the study that the influence of corporate governance components such as gender diversity, board independence and managerial ownership led to a significant positive impact on the performance of the firms under the investigation. In view of the above finding, this study makes the following recommendations for the policymakers in Nigeria that anytime the goal of the policymakers is the improvement of performance of the listed firms in the Nigerian stock exchange, board independence and a balance in the inclusion of male and female among the board of directors should be encouraged in these firms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corporate" title="corporate">corporate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=governance" title=" governance"> governance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=firms" title=" firms"> firms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance" title=" performance"> performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nigeria" title=" Nigeria"> Nigeria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stock" title=" stock"> stock</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exchange" title=" exchange"> exchange</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145199/corporate-governance-and-firms-performance-evidence-from-quoted-firms-on-the-nigerian-stock-exchange" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145199.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">175</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">52</span> Ionic Liquid 1-Butyl-3-Methylimidazolium Bromide as Reaction Medium for the Synthesis of Flavanones under Solvent-Free Conditions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Espindola">Cecilia Espindola</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juan%20Carlos%20Palacios"> Juan Carlos Palacios</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Flavonoids are a large group of natural compounds which are found in many fruits and vegetables. A subgroup of these called flavanones display a wide range of biological activities, and they also have an important physiological role in plants. The ionic liquid (ILs) are compounds consisting of an organic cation with an organic or inorganic anion. Due to its unique properties such as high electrical conductivity, wide temperature range of the liquid state, thermal and electrochemical stability, high ionic density and low volatility and flammability, are considered as ecological solvents in organic synthesis, catalysis, electrolytes in accumulators, and electrochemistry, non-volatile plasticizers, and chemical separation. It was synthesized ionic liquid IL 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide free-solvent and used as reaction medium for flavanones synthesis, under several reaction conditions of temperature, time and production. The obtained compounds were analyzed by melting point, elemental analysis, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium%20bromide" title="1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide">1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flavonoids" title=" flavonoids"> flavonoids</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=free-solvent" title=" free-solvent"> free-solvent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IR%20spectroscopy" title=" IR spectroscopy"> IR spectroscopy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/108195/ionic-liquid-1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium-bromide-as-reaction-medium-for-the-synthesis-of-flavanones-under-solvent-free-conditions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/108195.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">120</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">51</span> Microfiltration of the Sugar Refinery Wastewater Using Ceramic Membrane with Kenics Static Mixer</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zita%20%C5%A0ere%C5%A1">Zita Šereš</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ljubica%20Doki%C4%87"> Ljubica Dokić</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nikola%20Maravi%C4%87"> Nikola Maravić</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dragana%20%20%C5%A0oronja%20Simovi%C4%87"> Dragana Šoronja Simović</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Hodur"> Cecilia Hodur</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ivana%20Nikoli%C4%87"> Ivana Nikolić</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Biljana%20Pajin"> Biljana Pajin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> New environmental regulations and the increasing market preference for companies that respect the ecosystem had encouraged the industry to look after new treatments for its effluents. The sugar industry, one of the largest emitter of environmental pollutants, follows this tendency. Membrane technology is convenient for separation of suspended solids, colloids and high molecular weight materials that are present in a wastewater from the sugar industry. The idea is to microfilter the wastewater, where the permeate passes through the membrane and becomes available for recycle and re-use in the sugar manufacturing process. For microfiltration of this effluent a tubular ceramic membrane was used with a pore size of 200 nm at transmembrane pressure in range of 1 – 3 bars and in range of flow rate of 50 – 150 l/h. Kenics static mixer was used for permeate flux enhancement. Turbidity and suspended solids were removed and the permeate flux was continuously monitored during the microfiltration process. The flux achieved after 90 minutes of microfiltration was in a range of 50-70 L/m2h. The obtained turbidity decrease was in the range of 50-99% and the total amount of suspended solids was removed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ceramic%20membrane" title="ceramic membrane">ceramic membrane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microfiltration" title=" microfiltration"> microfiltration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=permeate%20flux" title=" permeate flux"> permeate flux</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sugar%20industry" title=" sugar industry"> sugar industry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wastewater" title=" wastewater"> wastewater</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28798/microfiltration-of-the-sugar-refinery-wastewater-using-ceramic-membrane-with-kenics-static-mixer" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28798.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">523</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">50</span> Implementation of the Science Curriculum of the Colleges of Education: Successes and Challenges </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Boakye">Cecilia Boakye</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joseph%20Ghartey%20Ampiah"> Joseph Ghartey Ampiah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this study, we present a case study in which we explored how the 2007 science curriculum of the colleges of education in Ghana was implemented at W College of Education. Purposive sampling was used to select 13 participants, comprising 2 tutors and 6 teacher trainees from W College of Education and, 5 newly qualified Junior High School (JHS) science teachers who were products of W College. Interviews, observations and content analysis were used to collect data. Using the deductive and inductive analytic approaches, the findings showed that although upgraded laboratories have provided for teaching authentic science at W College of Education, they are rather used to accommodate large classes at the expense of practical activities. The teaching and learning methods used by the tutors do not mirror effectively the objectives of the 2007 science curriculum of the colleges of education. There are challenges such as: (a) lack/inadequate equipment and materials, (b) time constraint, and (c) an examination- oriented curriculum that influence the implementation of the curriculum. Some of the suggestions that were made are that: (a) equipment and materials should be supplied to the colleges to facilitate the proper implementation of the curriculum, and (b) class sizes should be reduced to provide enough room for practical activities. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=class%20size" title="class size">class size</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=teaching" title=" teaching"> teaching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=curriculum%20implementation" title=" curriculum implementation"> curriculum implementation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=examination-oriented%20curriculum" title=" examination-oriented curriculum"> examination-oriented curriculum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=teaching%20and%20time-constraint" title=" teaching and time-constraint"> teaching and time-constraint</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48550/implementation-of-the-science-curriculum-of-the-colleges-of-education-successes-and-challenges" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48550.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">272</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">49</span> Water Sources in 3 Local Municipalities of O. This is coupled with the low income of most residents and government's policy which obliges municipalities to supply basic water usually set at 6 kilolitres per month to each household free of charge. During the research, data was collected from three local municipalities of O. R. Tambo, i.e. King Sabata Dalindyebo, Mhlontlo and Ingquza Hill local municipalities. According to the result, significant differences exist between the sources of water in the different local municipalities from which data was collected. The chi square was use to calculated the differences between the sources of water and the calculated critical value of the District Municipality was 18.77 which is more than the stipulated critical value of 3.84. More people in Mhlontlo Local Municipality got water from the taps while a greater percentage of households in King Sataba Dalindyebo and Ingquza hill local municipalities got their water from the natural sources. 77% of the sample population complained that there have been no improvements in water provision because they still get water from natural sources and even the remaining 33% that were getting water from the taps still have to depend on natural sources because the taps are most of the time broken and it takes a long time to fix them. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=availability" title="availability">availability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water" title=" water"> water</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sources" title=" sources"> sources</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=supply" title=" supply"> supply</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36667/water-sources-in-3-local-municipalities-of-o-r-tambo-district-municipality-south-africa-a-comparative-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36667.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">340</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">48</span> Mother Tounge Based Multilingual Education Policy: Voices of Two Cities, 'The Voice of Laguna' </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Velasco">Cecilia Velasco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Q."> Q. </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study was undertaken to find out the perceived efficiency, appropriateness effectiveness, acceptability and relevance, if at all such exist, of the Mother Tongue Based Multilingual Education Policy under the K-12 Curriculum, as seen by the stakeholders who are directly affected by this policy. The post-test using the same instrument measured the levels of anxiety after the 3-day aromatherapy. Paired T-test of SPSS 21.0 was used to analyze the pre-test and post-test scores. Results: Study yielded a p value of 0.047 which shows significant difference between the levels of anxiety before and after the intervention. Conclusions: Based on the data analysis, the researchers concluded that inhalation of Ylang-ylang aroma is effective in reducing the anxiety level of the parents of hospitalized toddlers diagnosed with Pneumonia. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ylang-ylang" title="Ylang-ylang">Ylang-ylang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pneumonia" title=" Pneumonia"> Pneumonia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Toddlers" title=" Toddlers"> Toddlers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aromatherapy" title=" Aromatherapy"> Aromatherapy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20604/the-effect-of-inhalation-of-ylang-ylang-aroma-on-the-levels-of-anxiety-of-parents-with-hospitalized-toddlers-diagnosed-with-pneumonia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20604.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">414</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">46</span> Agriculture, Food Security and Poverty Reduction in Nigeria: Cointegration and Granger Causality Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ogunwole%20Cecilia%20Oluwakemi">Ogunwole Cecilia Oluwakemi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Timothy%20Ayomitunde%20Aderemi"> Timothy Ayomitunde Aderemi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Provision of sufficient food and elimination of abject poverty have usually been the conventional benefits of agriculture in any society. Meanwhile, despite the fact that Nigeria is an agrarian society, food insecurity and poverty have become the issues of concern among both scholars and policymakers in the recent times. Against this backdrop, this study examined the nexus among agriculture, food security, and poverty reduction in Nigeria from 1990 to 2019 within the framework of the Cointegration and Granger Causality approach. Data was collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin and the World Development Indicators, respectively. The following are the major results that emanated from the study. A long run equilibrium relationship exists among agricultural value added, food production index, and GDP per capita in Nigeria. Similarly, there is a unidirectional causality which flows from food production index to poverty reduction in Nigeria. In the same vein, one way causality flows from poverty reduction to agricultural value added in Nigeria. Consequently, this study makes the following recommendation for the policymakers in Nigeria, and other African countries by extension, that agricultural value added and food production are the important variables that cannot be undermined when poverty reduction occupies the central focus of the policymakers. Therefore, any time these policymakers want to reduce poverty, policies that drive agricultural value added and food production should be embarked upon. Therefore, this study will contribute to the literature by establishing the type of linkage that exists between agriculture, food security, and poverty reduction in Nigeria. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agriculture" title="agriculture">agriculture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=value%20added" title=" value added"> value added</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=food%20production" title=" food production"> food production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GDP%20per%20capita" title=" GDP per capita"> GDP per capita</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nigeria" title=" Nigeria"> Nigeria</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146377/agriculture-food-security-and-poverty-reduction-in-nigeria-cointegration-and-granger-causality-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146377.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">194</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> Smart Energy Consumers: An Empirical Investigation on the Intention to Adopt Innovative Consumption Behaviour</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Perri">Cecilia Perri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vincenzo%20Corvello"> Vincenzo Corvello</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of the present study is to investigate consumers' determinants of intention toward the adoption of Smart Grid solutions and technologies. Ajzen's Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) model is applied and tested to explain the formation of such adoption intention. An exogenous variable, taking into account the resistance to change of individuals, was added to the basic model. The elicitation study allowed obtaining salient modal beliefs, which were used, with the support of literature, to design the questionnaire. After the screening phase, data collected from the main survey were analysed for evaluating measurement model's reliability and validity. Consistent with the theory, the results of structural equation analysis revealed that attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioural control positively, which affected the adoption intention. Specifically, the variable with the highest estimate loading factor was found to be the perceived behavioural control, and, the most important belief related to each construct was determined (e.g., energy saving was observed to be the most significant belief linked with attitude). Further investigation indicated that the added exogenous variable has a negative influence on intention; this finding confirmed partially the hypothesis, since this influence was indirect: such relationship was mediated by attitude. Implications and suggestions for future research are discussed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adoption%20of%20innovation" title="adoption of innovation">adoption of innovation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=consumers%20behaviour" title=" consumers behaviour"> consumers behaviour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20management" title=" energy management"> energy management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smart%20grid" title=" smart grid"> smart grid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=theory%20of%20planned%20behaviour" title=" theory of planned behaviour"> theory of planned behaviour</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28707/smart-energy-consumers-an-empirical-investigation-on-the-intention-to-adopt-innovative-consumption-behaviour" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28707.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">408</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">44</span> Revealing the Potential of Geotourism and Geoheritage of Gedangsari Area, Yogyakarta</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Jatu">Cecilia Jatu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adventino"> Adventino</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Gedangsari is located in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta Province, which has several criteria to be used as a new geosite object. The research area is located in the southern mountain zone of Java, composed of 5 rock formations with Oligocene up to Middle Miocene age. The purpose of this study is to reveal the potential of geotourism and the geoheritage to be proposed as a new geosite and to make a geosite map of Gedangsari. The research method used is descriptive data collection and which includes quantitative geological data collection, geotourism, and heritage sites, then supported by petrographic analysis, geological structure, geological mapping, and SWOT analysis. The geological data proved that Gedangsari consists of igneous rock (intrusion), pyroclastic rock, and sediment rock. This condition caused many varieties and particular geomorphological platform. Geotourism that include in Gedangsari are Luweng Sampang Canyon, Gedangsari Bouma Sequence, Watugajah Columnar Joint, Gedangsari Marine Fan Sediment, and Tegalrejo Waterfall. There is also Tegalrejo Village, which can be considered as geoheritage site because of its culture and batik traditional cloth. The results of the SWOT analysis, Gedangsari geosite must be developed and appropriately promoted in order to improve the existence. The development of geosite area will have a significant impact that improve the economic growth of the surrounding community and can be used by the government as base information for sustainable development. In addition, the making of an educational map about the geological conditions and geotourism location of the Gedangsari geosite can increase the people's knowledge about Gedangsari. <p
