Then you grew<MH7235a> up<MH7235a>, became<MH1431> tall<MH1431> and reached<MH935> the age for fine<MH5716> jewelry<MH5716>; your breasts<MH7699a> were formed<MH3559> and your hair<MH8181> had grown<MH6779>. Yet you were naked<MH5903> and bare<MH6181>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-8.htm">8</a>“Then I passed<MH5674a> by you and saw<MH7200> you, and behold<MH2009>, <a href="#fn">[e]</a>you were at the time<MH6256> for love<MH1730>; so I spread<MH6566> My <a href="#fn">[f]</a>garment<MH3671> over<MH5921> you and covered<MH3680> your nakedness<MH6172>. You ate<MH398> fine<MH5560> flour<MH5560>, honey<MH1706>, and oil<MH8081>; so you were<MH3302> exceedingly<MH3966> beautiful<MH3302> and advanced<MH6743b> to royalty<MH4410>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-14.htm">14</a>Then your fame<MH8034> spread<MH3318> among the nations<MH1471> on account of your beauty<MH3308>, for it was perfect<MH3632> because of My splendor<MH1926> which<MH834> I bestowed<MH7760> on you,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-15.htm">15</a>“But you trusted<MH982> in your beauty<MH3308> and became<MH2181> unfaithful<MH2181> because<MH5921> of your fame<MH8034>, and you poured<MH8210> out<MH8210> your <a href="#fn">[h]</a>obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457> on every<MH3605> passer-by<MH5674a> to whom it might be tempting. <a href="/ezekiel/16-16.htm">16</a>You took<MH3947> some<MH4480> of your clothes<MH899b>, made<MH6213a> for yourself <a href="#fn">[i]</a>high<MH1116> places<MH1116> of various<MH2921> colors<MH2921>, and committed<MH2181> prostitution<MH2181> on them, which should not come<MH935> about<MH935> nor<MH3808> happen<MH1961>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-17.htm">17</a>You also took<MH3947> your beautiful<MH8597> <a href="#fn">[j]</a>jewels<MH3627> made of My gold<MH2091> and of My silver<MH3701>, which<MH834> I had given<MH5414> you, and made<MH6213a> for yourself male<MH2145> images<MH6754> so that you might commit<MH2181> prostitution<MH2181> with them. <a href="/ezekiel/16-18.htm">18</a>Then you took<MH3947> your colorfully<MH7553> woven<MH7553> cloth<MH899b> and covered<MH3680> them, and offered<MH5414> My oil<MH8081> and My incense<MH7004> before<MH6440> them. <a href="/ezekiel/16-19.htm">19</a>Also My bread<MH3899> which<MH834> I gave<MH5414> you, fine<MH5560> flour<MH5560>, oil<MH8081>, and honey<MH1706> with which I fed<MH398> you, <a href="#fn">[k]</a>you would offer<MH5414> before<MH6440> them for a soothing<MH5207> aroma<MH7381b>; so it happened<MH1961>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-20.htm">20</a>“Furthermore, you took<MH3947> your sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323> whom<MH834> you had borne<MH3205> to Me and sacrificed<MH2076> them to <a href="#fn">[l]</a>idols to be devoured<MH398>. Were your obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457> a trivial<MH4592> matter? <a href="/ezekiel/16-21.htm">21</a>You slaughtered<MH7819> My children<MH1121> and offered<MH5414> them to <a href="#fn">[m]</a>idols by making them pass<MH5674a> through<MH5674a> the fire. <a href="/ezekiel/16-22.htm">22</a>And besides<MH854> all<MH3605> your abominations<MH8441> and obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457>, you did not remember<MH2142> the days<MH3117> of your youth<MH5271>, when you were naked<MH5903> and bare<MH6181> and squirming<MH947> in your blood<MH1818>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-23.htm">23</a>“Then it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> after<MH310> all<MH3605> your wickedness<MH7463a> (‘Woe<MH188>, woe<MH188> to you!’ declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>), <a href="/ezekiel/16-24.htm">24</a>that you built<MH1129> yourself a shrine<MH1354> and made<MH6213a> yourself a high<MH7413> place<MH7413> in every<MH3605> public<MH7339> square<MH7339>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-25.htm">25</a>You built<MH1129> yourself a high<MH7413> place<MH7413> at the beginning<MH7218> of every<MH3605> street<MH1870> and made<MH8581> your beauty<MH3308> abominable<MH8581>, and you spread<MH6589> your legs<MH7272> to every<MH3605> passer-by<MH5674a> and multiplied<MH7235a> your obscene<MH8457> practice<MH8457>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-26.htm">26</a>You also committed<MH2181> prostitution<MH2181> with the Egyptians<MH1121, 4714>, your <a href="#fn">[n]</a>lustful<MH1320, 1432> neighbors<MH7934>, and multiplied<MH7235a> your obscene<MH8457> practice<MH8457> to provoke<MH3707> Me to<MH3707> anger<MH3707>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-27.htm">27</a>So behold<MH2009>, I have stretched<MH5186> out<MH5186> My hand<MH3027> against<MH5921> you and cut<MH1639> back<MH1639> your rations<MH2706>. And I turned<MH5414> you over<MH5414> to the desire<MH5315> of those who hate<MH8130> you, the daughters<MH1323> of the Philistines<MH6430>, who are ashamed<MH3637> of your outrageous<MH2154> conduct<MH1870>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-28.htm">28</a>Moreover, you committed<MH2181> prostitution<MH2181> with the Assyrians<MH1121, 804b> because<MH4480> you were not satisfied<MH7654>; you committed<MH2181> prostitution<MH2181> with them and still<MH1571> were<MH7646> not satisfied<MH7646>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-29.htm">29</a>You also multiplied<MH7235a> your obscene<MH8457> practice<MH8457> with the land<MH776> of merchants<MH3667b>, Chaldea<MH3778>; yet even<MH1571> with this<MH2088> you were<MH7646> not satisfied<MH7646>.”’” <a href="/ezekiel/16-30.htm">30</a>“How<MH4100> feverish<MH535> is your heart<MH3826>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, “while you do<MH6213a> all<MH3605> these<MH428> things<MH4639>, the action<MH4639> of a <a href="#fn">[o]</a>bold<MH7989> prostitute<MH802, 2181>! <a href="/ezekiel/16-31.htm">31</a>When you built<MH1129> your shrine<MH1354> at the beginning<MH7218> of every<MH3605> street<MH1870> and made<MH6213a> your high<MH7413> place<MH7413> in every<MH3605> public<MH7339> square<MH7339>, in spurning<MH7046> a prostitute’s<MH868> fee<MH868>, you were not like a prostitute<MH2181>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-32.htm">32</a>You adulteress<MH5003> wife<MH802>, who takes<MH3947> strangers<MH2114a> instead<MH8478> of<MH8478> her husband<MH376>! <a href="/ezekiel/16-33.htm">33</a>Men give<MH5414> gifts<MH5078> to all<MH3605> prostitutes<MH2181>, but you give<MH5414> your gifts<MH5083> to all<MH3605> your lovers<MH157> and lavish<MH7809> favors<MH7809> on them so that they will come<MH935> to you from every<MH5439> direction<MH5439> for your obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-34.htm">34</a>So it is the opposite<MH2016> for you from those women<MH802> in your obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457>, in that you are not approached<MH2181, 310> for<MH2181> prostitution<MH2181>, and in the fact that you pay<MH5414> a prostitute’s<MH868> fee<MH868>, and no<MH3808> fee<MH868> is paid<MH5414> to you; so you are the opposite<MH2016>.” <a href="/ezekiel/16-35.htm">35</a>Therefore<MH3651>, you prostitute<MH2181>, hear<MH8085> the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-36.htm">36</a>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “Because<MH3282> your lewdness<MH5179a> was poured<MH8210> out<MH8210> and your nakedness<MH6172> uncovered<MH1540> through your obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457> with your lovers<MH157> and with all<MH3605> your detestable<MH8441> idols<MH1544>, and because of the blood<MH1818> of your sons<MH1121> that<MH834> you gave<MH5414> to <a href="#fn">[p]</a>idols, <a href="/ezekiel/16-37.htm">37</a>therefore<MH3651>, behold<MH2009>, I am going to gather<MH6908> all<MH3605> your lovers<MH157> whom<MH834> you pleased<MH6149>, all<MH3605> those whom<MH834> you loved<MH157> as<MH5921> well<MH5921> as<MH5921> all<MH3605> those whom<MH834> you hated<MH8130>. So I will gather<MH6908> them against<MH5921> you from every<MH5439> direction<MH5439> and expose<MH1540> your nakedness<MH6172> to them so that they may see<MH7200> all<MH3605> your nakedness<MH6172>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-38.htm">38</a>So I will judge<MH8199> you as women who commit<MH5003> adultery<MH5003> or shed<MH8210> blood<MH1818> are judged<MH4941>; and I will bring<MH5414> on you the blood<MH1818> of wrath<MH2534> and jealousy<MH7068>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-39.htm">39</a>I will also hand<MH5414, 3027> you over<MH5414> to <a href="#fn">[q]</a>your lovers, and they will tear<MH2040> down<MH2040> your shrines<MH1354>, demolish<MH5422> your high<MH7413> places<MH7413>, strip<MH6584> you of your clothing<MH899b>, take<MH3947> away your <a href="#fn">[r]</a>jewels<MH3627, 8597>, and will leave<MH5117> you naked<MH5903> and bare<MH6181>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-40.htm">40</a>They will <a href="#fn">[s]</a>incite<MH5927> a crowd<MH6951> against<MH5921> you, and they will stone<MH7275, 68> you and cut<MH1333> you to<MH1333> pieces<MH1333> with their swords<MH2719>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-41.htm">41</a>And they will burn<MH8313> your houses<MH1004> with fire<MH784> and execute<MH6213a> judgments<MH8201> against you in the sight<MH5869> of many<MH7227a> women<MH802>. Then I will put<MH7673a> an<MH7673a> end<MH7673a> to your prostitution<MH2181>, and you will also<MH1571> no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> pay<MH5414> <a href="#fn">[t]</a>your lovers<MH868>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-42.htm">42</a>So I will satisfy<MH5117> My fury<MH2534> against you and My jealousy<MH7068> will leave<MH5493> you, and I will be pacified<MH8252> and no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> be angry<MH3707>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-43.htm">43</a>Since<MH3282, 834> you have not remembered<MH2142> the days<MH3117> of your youth<MH5271> but <a href="#fn">[u]</a>have caused<MH7264> Me unrest<MH7264> by all<MH3605> these<MH428> things<MH428>, behold<MH1887>, I in<MH1571> turn<MH1571> will bring<MH5414> your conduct<MH1870> down on your own head<MH7218>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, “so that you will not commit<MH6213a> this outrageous<MH2154> sin<MH2154> in<MH5921> addition<MH5921> to<MH5921> all<MH3605> your other abominations<MH8441>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-44.htm">44</a>“Behold<MH2009>, everyone<MH3605> who quotes<MH4911b> proverbs<MH4911b> will quote<MH4911b> this proverb<MH4911b> about<MH5921> you, saying<MH559>, ‘Like <a href="#fn">[v]</a>mother<MH517>, like daughter<MH1323>.’ <a href="/ezekiel/16-45.htm">45</a>You are the daughter<MH1323> of your mother<MH517>, who loathed<MH1602> her husband<MH376> and children<MH1121>. You are also the sister<MH269> of your sisters<MH269>, who<MH834> loathed<MH1602> their husbands<MH376> and children<MH1121>. Your mother<MH517> was a Hittite<MH2850> and your father<MH1> an Amorite<MH567>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-46.htm">46</a>Now your older<MH1419> sister<MH269> is Samaria<MH8111>, who lives<MH3427> <a href="#fn">[w]</a>north<MH8040> of you with her <a href="#fn">[x]</a>daughters<MH1323>; and your younger<MH6996a> sister<MH269>, who lives<MH3427> <a href="#fn">[y]</a>south<MH3225> of you, is Sodom<MH5467> with her <a href="#fn">[z]</a>daughters<MH1323>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-47.htm">47</a>Yet you have not merely walked<MH1980> in their ways<MH1870> and <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>committed<MH6213a> their abominations<MH8441>; but, as if that were too<MH6985b> little<MH4592>, you also acted<MH7843> more<MH4480> corruptly<MH7843> in all<MH3605> your conduct<MH1870> than<MH4480> they. <a href="/ezekiel/16-48.htm">48</a>As I live<MH2416a>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, “Sodom<MH5467>, your sister<MH269> and her daughters<MH1323> have not done<MH6213a> as you and your daughters<MH1323> have done<MH6213a>! <a href="/ezekiel/16-49.htm">49</a>Behold<MH2009>, this<MH2088> was the guilt<MH5771> of your sister<MH269> Sodom<MH5467>: she and her daughters<MH1323> had<MH1961> arrogance<MH1347b>, plenty<MH7654> of food<MH3899>, and carefree<MH8252> ease<MH7962>, but she did not <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>help<MH2388, 3027> the poor<MH6041> and needy<MH34>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-50.htm">50</a>So they were<MH1361b> haughty<MH1361b> and committed<MH6213a> abominations<MH8441> before<MH6440> Me. Therefore I removed<MH5493> them <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>when<MH3512c> I saw<MH7200> it. <a href="/ezekiel/16-51.htm">51</a>Furthermore, Samaria<MH8111> did not commit<MH2398> half<MH2677> of your sins<MH2403b>, for you have multiplied<MH7235a> your abominations<MH8441> more<MH4480> than<MH4480> they. So you have made<MH6663> your sisters<MH269> appear<MH6663> innocent<MH6663> by all<MH3605> your abominations<MH8441> which<MH834> you have committed<MH6213a>. <a href="/ezekiel/16-52.htm">52</a>Also<MH1571>, bear<MH5375> your disgrace<MH3639> in that you have <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>made<MH6419> judgment<MH6419> favorable<MH6419> for your sisters<MH269>. Because of your sins<MH2403b> in which<MH834> you acted<MH8581> more<MH4480> abominably<MH8581> than<MH4480> they, they are<MH6663> more<MH4480> in<MH6663> the<MH6663> right<MH6663> than<MH4480> you.
