The concept of wanting is deeply intertwined with human nature and is addressed throughout Scripture, both in terms of material desires and spiritual longings.

Material Wants:

The Bible frequently addresses the human tendency to desire material possessions. In the Ten Commandments, God explicitly warns against coveting, which is a form of wanting what belongs to others: "You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor" (Exodus 20:17). This commandment highlights the importance of contentment and the dangers of unchecked desires.

The pursuit of wealth and material goods is also cautioned against in the New Testament. In 1 Timothy 6:9-10, Paul writes, "Those who want to be rich, however, fall into temptation and become ensnared by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. By craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows" . Here, the apostle warns that the desire for wealth can lead to spiritual peril.

Spiritual Wants:

Beyond material desires, the Bible speaks to the deeper spiritual wants of humanity. The Psalms often express a longing for God and His presence. Psalm 42:1-2 beautifully captures this spiritual yearning: "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul longs after You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When shall I come and appear in God’s presence?" . This imagery conveys a profound desire for communion with the Divine.

Jesus addresses spiritual wants in the Beatitudes, where He pronounces blessings on those who hunger and thirst for righteousness: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled" (Matthew 5:6). This promise assures believers that their spiritual desires will be satisfied by God.

God's Provision:

The Bible assures believers that God is aware of their needs and wants, and He provides accordingly. In Philippians 4:19, Paul reassures the church, "And my God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus" . This verse emphasizes God's faithfulness in meeting the needs of His people.

Moreover, Jesus teaches about God's provision in the Sermon on the Mount, encouraging His followers not to worry about their material needs: "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). This instruction redirects the focus from earthly wants to spiritual priorities, promising that God will take care of the rest.

Conclusion:

The concept of "wanted" in the Bible encompasses both the material and spiritual dimensions of human desire. While Scripture warns against the dangers of coveting and the pursuit of wealth, it also acknowledges the legitimate needs and deeper spiritual longings of individuals. Ultimately, the Bible directs believers to seek fulfillment in God, who promises to provide for their needs and satisfy their spiritual desires.
Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary
(imp. & p. p.) of Want.
Greek
1014. boulomai -- to will
... am (1), desire (2), desires (1), desiring (1), intend (1), intended (3), intending
(1), like (1), planned (1), unwilling* (1), want (7), wanted (3), wanting (2 ...
//strongsnumbers.com/greek2/1014.htm - 9k
2309. thelo -- to will, wish
... 1), intending (1), like (3), maintain (1), mean (1), mean* (2), please (1), purposed
(1), refused* (1), unwilling* (11), want (52), wanted (15), wanting (3 ...
//strongsnumbers.com/greek2/2309.htm - 11k
Library

Tenants who Wanted to be Owners
... VOLUME II: ST.
