The first extant instance of this use occurs in the Amphictyonic decree in (pseudo-) <span class="abbreviation">Demosthenes</span>, p. 279, 8 (i. e. de coron. § 155): <span class="greek2">πρεσβευσαι</span> <span class="greek2">πρός</span> <span class="greek2">Φίλιππον</span> <span class="greek2">καί</span> <span class="greek2">ἀξιουν</span> <span class="greek2">ἵνα</span> <span class="greek2">βοηθήσῃ</span> (cf.
