If<MG1487> You want<MG2309>, I will make<MG4160> three<MG5140> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>tabernacles<MG4633> here<MG5602>: one<MG1520> for You, one<MG1520> for Moses<MG3475>, and one<MG1520> for Elijah<MG2243>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>While he was still<MG2089> speaking<MG2980>, a bright<MG5460> cloud<MG3507> overshadowed<MG1982> them, and behold<MG2400>, a voice<MG5456> from the cloud<MG3507> said<MG3004>, “This<MG3778> is My beloved<MG27> Son<MG5207>, with whom<MG3739> I am<MG2106> well<MG2106> pleased<MG2106>; listen<MG191> to Him!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>When the disciples<MG3101> heard<MG191> <i>this,</i> they fell<MG4098> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>face<MG4383> down to the ground and were<MG5399> terrified<MG5399, 4970>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> came<MG4334> to <i>them</i> and touched<MG681> them and said<MG3004>, “Get<MG1453> up<MG1453>, and do not be<MG5399> afraid<MG5399>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And raising<MG1869> their eyes<MG3788>, they saw<MG3708> no<MG3762> one<MG3762> except<MG1508> Jesus<MG2424> Himself<MG846> alone<MG3441>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>When they were coming<MG2597> down<MG2597> from the mountain<MG3735>, Jesus<MG2424> commanded<MG1781> them, saying<MG3004>, “Tell<MG3004> the vision<MG3705> to no<MG3367> one<MG3367> until<MG2193> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> has risen<MG1453> from the dead<MG3498>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And His disciples<MG3101> asked<MG1905> Him, “Why<MG5101> then<MG3767> do the scribes<MG1122> say<MG3004> that Elijah<MG2243> must<MG1163> come<MG2064> first<MG4413>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And He answered<MG611> and said<MG3004>, “Elijah<MG2243> is coming<MG2064> and will restore<MG600> all<MG3956> things<MG3956>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>but I say<MG3004> to you that Elijah<MG2243> already<MG2235> came<MG2064>, and they did not recognize<MG1921> him, but did<MG4160> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>to him whatever<MG3745> they wanted<MG2309>. So<MG3779> also<MG2532> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> is<MG3195> going<MG3195> to<MG3195> suffer<MG3958> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>at<MG5259> their hands<MG5259>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> the disciples<MG3101> understood<MG4920> that He had spoken<MG3004> to them about<MG4012> John<MG2491> the Baptist<MG910>. <p class="hdg">The Demon-possessed Boy</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>When they came<MG2064> to the crowd<MG3793>, a man<MG444> came<MG4334> up<MG4334> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Jesus, falling<MG1120> on<MG1120> his knees<MG1120> before<MG1120> Him and saying<MG3004>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>“<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>Lord<MG2962>, have<MG1653> mercy<MG1653> on my son<MG5207>, because<MG3754> he has<MG4583> seizures<MG4583> and suffers<MG2192> terribly<MG2560>; for he often<MG4178> falls<MG4098> into the fire<MG4442> and often<MG4178> into the water<MG5204>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And I brought<MG4374> him to Your disciples<MG3101>, and they could<MG1410> not cure<MG2323> him.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004>, “You<MG5599> unbelieving<MG571> and perverse<MG1294> generation<MG1074>, how<MG2193> long<MG2193, 4219> shall I be with you? How<MG2193> long<MG2193, 4219> shall I put<MG430> up<MG430> with you? Bring<MG5342> him here<MG5602> to Me.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> rebuked<MG2008> him, and the demon<MG1140> came<MG1831> out<MG1831> of him, and the boy<MG3816> was healed<MG2323> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>at once<MG575, 1565, 5610>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> the disciples<MG3101> came<MG4334> to Jesus<MG2424> privately<MG2596, 2398> and said<MG3004>, “Why<MG1223, 5101> could<MG1410> we not cast<MG1544b> it out<MG1544b>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And He *said<MG3004> to them, “Because<MG1223> of your meager<MG3640a> faith<MG3640a>; for truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, if<MG1437> you have<MG2192> faith<MG4102> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>the size<MG5613> of a mustard<MG4615> seed<MG2848>, you will say<MG3004> to this<MG3778> mountain<MG3735>, ‘Move<MG3327> from<MG1759b> here<MG1759b> to there<MG1563>,’ and it will move<MG3327>; and nothing<MG3762> will be impossible<MG101> for you.<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And while they were gathering<MG4962> together<MG4962> in Galilee<MG1056>, Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to them, “The Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> is<MG3195> going<MG3195> to<MG3195> be <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>handed<MG3860, 5495> over<MG3860> to men<MG444>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>and they will kill<MG615> Him, and He will be raised<MG1453> on the third<MG5154> day<MG2250>.” And they were deeply<MG4970> grieved<MG3076>. <p class="hdg">The Temple Tax</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> when they came<MG4334> to Capernaum<MG2746b>, those<MG3588> who collected<MG2983> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>two-drachma<MG1323> <i>tax</i> came<MG4334> to Peter<MG4074> and said<MG3004>, “Does your teacher<MG1320> not pay<MG5055> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>two-drachma<MG1323> <i>tax?</i>” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/17-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>He *said<MG3004>, “Yes<MG3483a>.” And when he came<MG2064> into the house<MG3614>, Jesus<MG2424> spoke<MG4399, 3004> to him first<MG4399>, saying<MG3004>, “What<MG5101> do you think<MG1380>, Simon<MG4613>?
