The Word Made Flesh<a href="/john/1-14.htm">14</a>And the Word<MG3056> became<MG1096> flesh<MG4561>, and dwelt<MG4637> among<MG1722> us; and we saw<MG2300> His glory<MG1391>, glory<MG1391> as of the only<MG3439> Son from the Father<MG3962>, full<MG4134> of grace<MG5485> and truth<MG225>. <a href="/john/1-15.htm">15</a>John<MG2491> *testified<MG3140> about<MG4012> Him and called<MG2896> out<MG2896>, saying<MG3004>, “This<MG3778> was He of whom<MG3739> I said<MG3004>, ‘He who is coming<MG2064> after<MG3694> me has proved<MG1096> to<MG1096> be<MG1096> <a href="#fn">[q]</a>my superior<MG1715>, because<MG3754> He existed<MG1510> before<MG4413> me.’” <a href="/john/1-16.htm">16</a>For of His fullness<MG4138> <a href="#fn">[r]</a>we have all<MG3956> received<MG2983>, and <a href="#fn">[s]</a>grace<MG5485> upon grace<MG5485>. <a href="/john/1-17.htm">17</a>For the Law<MG3551> was given<MG1325> through<MG1223> Moses<MG3475>; grace<MG5485> and truth<MG225> <a href="#fn">[t]</a>were realized<MG1096> through<MG1223> Jesus<MG2424> Christ<MG5547>. <a href="/john/1-18.htm">18</a>No<MG3762> one<MG3762> has seen<MG3708> God<MG2316> at any<MG4455> time<MG4455>; God<MG2316> the only<MG3439> Son, who is in the <a href="#fn">[u]</a>arms<MG2859> of the Father<MG3962>, He has <a href="#fn">[v]</a>explained<MG1834> Him. The Testimony of John the Baptist<a href="/john/1-19.htm">19</a>This<MG3778> is the testimony<MG3141> of John<MG2491>, when<MG3753> the Jews<MG2453> sent<MG649> priests<MG2409> and Levites<MG3019> to him from Jerusalem<MG2414> to ask<MG2065> him, “Who<MG5101> are you?” <a href="/john/1-20.htm">20</a>And he confessed<MG3670> and did not deny<MG720>; and this is what he confessed<MG3670>: “I am<MG1510> not the <a href="#fn">[w]</a>Christ<MG5547>.” <a href="/john/1-21.htm">21</a>And so they asked<MG2065> him, “What<MG5101> then<MG3767>? Are you Elijah<MG2243>?” And he *said<MG3004>, “I am<MG1510> not.” “Are you the Prophet<MG4396>?” And he answered<MG611>, “No<MG3756>.” <a href="/john/1-22.htm">22</a>Then<MG3767> they said<MG3004> to him, “Who<MG5101> are you? Tell us, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> we may give<MG1325> an answer<MG612> to those<MG3588> who sent<MG3992> us. What<MG5101> do you say<MG3004> about<MG4012> yourself<MG4572>?” <a href="/john/1-23.htm">23</a>He said<MG5346>, “I am THE VOICE<MG5456> OF ONE CALLING<MG994> <a href="#fn">[x]</a>OUT<MG994> IN THE WILDERNESS<MG2048>, ‘MAKE<MG2116> THE WAY<MG3598> OF THE LORD<MG2962> STRAIGHT<MG2116>,’ as Isaiah<MG2268> the prophet<MG4396> said<MG3004>.” <a href="/john/1-24.htm">24</a>And the messengers had been<MG1510> sent<MG649> from the Pharisees<MG5330>. <a href="/john/1-25.htm">25</a>They asked<MG2065> him, and said<MG3004> to him, “Why<MG5101> then<MG3767> are you baptizing<MG907>, if<MG1487> you are not the <a href="#fn">[y]</a>Christ<MG5547>, nor<MG3761> Elijah<MG2243>, nor<MG3761> the Prophet<MG4396>?” <a href="/john/1-26.htm">26</a>John<MG2491> answered<MG611> them, saying<MG3004>, “I baptize<MG907> <a href="#fn">[z]</a>in water<MG5204>, but among<MG3319> you stands<MG4739> One whom<MG3739> you do not know<MG3609a>. <a href="/john/1-27.htm">27</a>It is He who comes<MG2064> after<MG3694> me, of whom I am<MG1510> not worthy<MG514> even to untie<MG3089> the strap<MG2438> of His sandal<MG5266>.” <a href="/john/1-28.htm">28</a>These<MG3778> things<MG3778> took<MG1096> place<MG1096> in Bethany<MG963> beyond<MG4008> the Jordan<MG2446>, where<MG3699> John<MG2491> was baptizing<MG907> people. <a href="/john/1-29.htm">29</a>The next<MG1887> day<MG1887> he *saw<MG991> Jesus<MG2424> coming<MG2064> to him, and *said<MG3004>, “Behold<MG2396>, the Lamb<MG286> of God<MG2316> who takes<MG142> away<MG142> the sin<MG266> of the world<MG2889>! <a href="/john/1-30.htm">30</a>This<MG3778> is He in<MG5228> behalf<MG5228> of whom<MG3739> I said<MG3004>, ‘After<MG3694> me is coming<MG2064> a Man<MG435> who<MG3739> has proved<MG1096> to<MG1096> be<MG1096> <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>my superior<MG1715>, because<MG3754> He existed<MG1510> before<MG4413> me.’ <a href="/john/1-31.htm">31</a>And I did not recognize<MG3609a> <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>Him, but so<MG2443> that<MG2443> He would be revealed<MG5319> to Israel<MG2474>, I came<MG2064> baptizing<MG907> <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>in water<MG5204>.” <a href="/john/1-32.htm">32</a>And John<MG2491> testified<MG3140>, saying<MG3004>, “I have seen<MG2300> the Spirit<MG4151> descending<MG2597> as a dove<MG4058> out of heaven<MG3772>, and He remained<MG3306> upon Him. <a href="/john/1-33.htm">33</a>And I did not recognize<MG3609a> <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>Him, but He who sent<MG3992> me to baptize<MG907> <a href="#fn">[ae]</a>in water<MG5204> said<MG3004> to me, ‘He upon whom<MG3739> you see<MG3708> the Spirit<MG4151> descending<MG2597> and remaining<MG3306> upon Him, this<MG3778> is the One who baptizes<MG907> <a href="#fn">[af]</a>in the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151>.’ <a href="/john/1-34.htm">34</a>And I myself<MG1473> have seen<MG3708>, and have testified<MG3140> that this<MG3778> is the <a href="#fn">[ag]</a>Son<MG5207> of God<MG2316>.” Jesus’ Public Ministry; First Converts<a href="/john/1-35.htm">35</a>Again<MG3825> the next<MG1887> day<MG1887> John<MG2491> was standing<MG2476> <a href="#fn">[ah]</a>with two<MG1417> of his disciples<MG3101>, <a href="/john/1-36.htm">36</a>and he looked<MG1689> at<MG1689> Jesus<MG2424> as He walked<MG4043>, and *said<MG3004>, “Behold<MG2396>, the Lamb<MG286> of God<MG2316>!” <a href="/john/1-37.htm">37</a>And the two<MG1417> disciples<MG3101> heard<MG191> him speak<MG2980>, and they followed<MG190> Jesus<MG2424>. <a href="/john/1-38.htm">38</a>And Jesus<MG2424> turned<MG4762> and saw<MG2300> them following<MG190>, and *said<MG3004> to them, “What<MG5101> are you seeking<MG2212>?” They said<MG3004> to Him, “Rabbi<MG4461> (which<MG3739> translated<MG3177> means<MG3004> Teacher<MG1320>), where<MG4226> are You staying<MG3306>?” <a href="/john/1-39.htm">39</a>He *said<MG3004> to them, “Come<MG2064>, and you will see<MG3708>.” So<MG3767> they came<MG2064> and saw<MG3708> where<MG4226> He was staying<MG3306>, and they stayed<MG3306> with Him that day<MG2250>; it was about<MG5613> the <a href="#fn">[ai]</a>tenth<MG1182> hour<MG5610>. <a href="/john/1-40.htm">40</a>One<MG1520> of the two<MG1417> who heard<MG191> John<MG2491> speak, and followed<MG190> Him, was Andrew<MG406>, Simon<MG4613> Peter’s<MG4074> brother<MG80>. <a href="/john/1-41.htm">41</a>He first<MG4413> *found<MG2147> his own<MG2398> brother<MG80> Simon<MG4613> and *said<MG3004> to him, “We have found<MG2147> the Messiah<MG3323>” (which<MG3739> translated<MG3177> means<MG1510> <a href="#fn">[aj]</a>Christ<MG5547>). <a href="/john/1-42.htm">42</a>He brought<MG71> him to Jesus<MG2424>. Jesus<MG2424> looked<MG1689> at<MG1689> him and said<MG3004>, “You are Simon<MG4613> the son<MG5207> of <a href="#fn">[ak]</a>John<MG2491>; you shall be called<MG2564> Cephas<MG2786>” (which<MG3739> is translated<MG2059> <a href="#fn">[al]</a>Peter<MG4074>). <a href="/john/1-43.htm">43</a>The next<MG1887> day<MG1887> He <a href="#fn">[am]</a>decided<MG2309> to go<MG1831> to Galilee<MG1056>, and He *found<MG2147> Philip<MG5376>. And Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to him, “Follow<MG190> Me.” <a href="/john/1-44.htm">44</a>Now<MG1161> Philip<MG5376> was from Bethsaida<MG966>, the city<MG4172> of Andrew<MG406> and Peter<MG4074>. <a href="/john/1-45.htm">45</a>Philip<MG5376> *found<MG2147> Nathanael<MG3482> and *said<MG3004> to him, “We have found<MG2147> Him of whom<MG3739> Moses<MG3475> wrote<MG1125> in the Law<MG3551>, and the prophets<MG4396> also wrote: Jesus<MG2424> the son<MG5207> of Joseph<MG2501>, from Nazareth<MG3478>!” <a href="/john/1-46.htm">46</a>Nathanael<MG3482> said<MG3004> to him, “Can<MG1410> anything<MG5100> good<MG18> be from Nazareth<MG3478>?” Philip<MG5376> *said<MG3004> to him, “Come<MG2064> and see<MG3708>.” <a href="/john/1-47.htm">47</a>Jesus<MG2424> saw<MG3708> Nathanael<MG3482> coming<MG2064> to Him, and *said<MG3004> of him, “Here<MG2396> is<MG2396> truly<MG230> an Israelite<MG2475a>, in whom<MG3739> there<MG1510> is no<MG3756> deceit<MG1388>!” <a href="/john/1-48.htm">48</a>Nathanael<MG3482> *said<MG3004> to Him, “How<MG4159> do You know<MG1097> me?” Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to him, “Before<MG4253> Philip<MG5376> called<MG5455> you, when you were under<MG5259> the fig<MG4808> tree<MG4808>, I saw<MG3708> you.” <a href="/john/1-49.htm">49</a>Nathanael<MG3482> answered<MG611> Him, “Rabbi<MG4461>, You are the Son<MG5207> of God<MG2316>; You are the King<MG935> of Israel<MG2474>!” <a href="/john/1-50.htm">50</a>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to him, “Because<MG3754> I said<MG3004> to you that I saw<MG3708> you under<MG5270> the fig<MG4808> tree<MG4808>, do you believe<MG4100>?
