This was closed in May 1968, when the section from Bere Alston to Okehampton was closed and lifted. A shame, as Tavistock could do with its railway back. It should never have been closed. Meanwhile, I am told the viaduct is in reasonable condition. It survives, but the cutting between here and the station has been largely infilled. This cutting was known as the 'Abbey Cut' (the site of the ruins of Inchaffray Abbey was to the north) and was crossed by a slender curved metal bridge giving access to a manse. The bridge was demolished after closure. 'Abbey Bridge', the next bridge before Madderty station, has also been removed and was similar to the one seen here except on a skew.
