They were able to detect the existence of the elements <a href="/wiki/Einsteinium" title="Einsteinium">einsteinium</a> and <a href="/wiki/Fermium" title="Fermium">fermium</a>, which had been produced by intensely concentrated neutron flux about the detonation site. The discovery was kept secret for several years, but the team was eventually given credit.
