This concept can be both literal, as in the physical boundaries of land, and metaphorical, as in the moral and spiritual boundaries set by God for His people. The Bible frequently addresses the importance of boundaries, both in terms of property and in the spiritual lives of believers.

Biblical References
While the term "edging" itself is not explicitly used in the Bible, the concept is present throughout Scripture. In the Old Testament, God provided specific instructions regarding the boundaries of the Promised Land. For example, in Numbers 34:2 , God commands Moses, "Command the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land of Canaan, it will be allotted to you as an inheritance with these boundaries."

The idea of setting boundaries is also evident in the moral and ethical laws given to the Israelites. These laws served as spiritual "edging," guiding the people in their relationship with God and with one another. In Deuteronomy 5:32-33 , Moses instructs the Israelites, "So be careful to do as the LORD your God has commanded you; you are not to turn aside to the right or to the left. You must walk in all the ways that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess."

Spiritual Significance
The concept of edging extends beyond physical boundaries to encompass spiritual and moral boundaries. In Proverbs 4:23 , believers are admonished, "Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow springs of life." This verse highlights the importance of setting spiritual boundaries to protect one's heart and maintain purity and righteousness.

In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul speaks to the importance of spiritual boundaries in the life of a believer. In 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 , Paul writes, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership can righteousness have with wickedness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?... Therefore, 'Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.'"

Practical Application
For Christians today, the concept of edging can be applied in various aspects of life. Setting clear boundaries in relationships, work, and personal conduct is essential for maintaining a life that honors God. This involves making conscious decisions about what influences to allow into one's life and being vigilant in guarding against anything that might lead one away from God's will.

In family and community life, edging can involve establishing rules and guidelines that reflect biblical principles, ensuring that homes and communities are places where God's presence is honored and His commandments are upheld.
Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary
1.
