He holds doctorates in both medicine and applied ethics, and is the author of 33 peer-reviewed publications, three books and numerous articles in the day press. He has been a member (and chair) of a research ethics committee and participated in international AIDS research projects. He is a research fellow at the Centre for Applied Ethics, Department of Philosophy, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
