<t><p class="indent1"><i>Her people sit</i> on the ground<MH776> in mourning<MH6937> garments<MH6937>, <t><p class="indent1">And the cry<MH6682> of Jerusalem<MH3389> has ascended<MH5927>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>“Their nobles<MH117> have sent<MH7971> their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>servants<MH6810> for water<MH4325>; <t><p class="indent1">They have come<MH935> to the cisterns<MH1356a> and found<MH4672> no<MH3808> water<MH4325>. <t><p class="indent1">They have returned<MH7725> with their containers<MH3627> empty<MH7387>; <t><p class="indent1">They have been put<MH954> to<MH954> shame<MH954> and humiliated<MH3637>, <t><p class="indent1">And they cover<MH2645> their heads<MH7218>, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Because<MH5668> the ground<MH127> is<MH2865> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>cracked<MH2865>, <t><p class="indent1">For there has been<MH1961> no<MH3808> rain<MH1653> on the land<MH776>. <t><p class="indent1">The farmers<MH406> have been put<MH954> to<MH954> shame<MH954>, <t><p class="indent1">They have covered<MH2645> their heads<MH7218>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>“For even<MH1571> the doe<MH355> in the field<MH7704> has given<MH3205> birth<MH3205> only to abandon<MH5800a> <i>her young,</i> <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> there is no<MH3808> grass<MH1877>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>“The wild<MH6501> donkeys<MH6501> stand<MH5975> on the bare<MH8205> heights<MH8205>; <t><p class="indent1">They pant<MH7602a> for air<MH7307> like jackals<MH8565>, <t><p class="indent1">Their eyes<MH5869> fail<MH3615> <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> vegetation<MH6212a>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>“Though<MH518> our wrongdoings<MH5771> testify<MH6030a> against us, <t><p class="indent1">LORD<MH3068>, act<MH6213a> for the sake<MH4616> of Your name<MH8034>! <t><p class="indent1">Our apostasies<MH4878> have indeed<MH3588> been<MH7231> many<MH7231>, <t><p class="indent1">We have sinned<MH2398> against You. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>“Hope<MH4723a> of Israel<MH3478>, <t><p class="indent1">Its Savior<MH3467> in time<MH6256> of distress<MH6869a>, <t><p class="indent1">Why<MH4100> are You like a stranger<MH1616> in the land<MH776>, <t><p class="indent1">Or like a traveler<MH732> who has pitched<MH5186> <i>his tent</i> for the night<MH3885a>? <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>“Why<MH4100> are You like a confused<MH1724> person<MH376>, <t><p class="indent1">Like a warrior<MH1368> who cannot<MH3201, 3808> save<MH3467>? <t><p class="indent1">Yet You are in our midst<MH7130>, LORD<MH3068>, <t><p class="indent1">And we are called<MH7121> by Your name<MH8034>; <t><p class="indent1">Do not leave<MH5117> us!” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559> to this<MH2088> people<MH5971a>: “So<MH3651> much<MH3651> they have loved<MH157> to wander<MH5128>; they have not restrained<MH2820> their feet<MH7272>. Therefore the LORD<MH3068> does not accept<MH7521> them; now<MH6258> He will remember<MH2142> their wrongdoing<MH5771> and call<MH6485> their sins<MH2403b> to<MH6485> account<MH6485>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>So the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to me, “Do not pray<MH6419> for a good<MH2899b> outcome<MH2899b> on behalf<MH1157> of this<MH2088> people<MH5971a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>When<MH3588> they fast<MH6684>, I am not going to listen<MH8085> to their cry<MH7440>; and when<MH3588> they offer<MH5927> burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> and grain offering<MH4503>, I am not going to accept<MH7521> them. Rather<MH3588>, I am going to put<MH3615> an<MH3615> end<MH3615> to<MH3615> them by the sword<MH2719>, famine<MH7458>, and plague<MH1698>.” <p class="hdg">False Prophets</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But I said<MH559>, “Oh<MH162>, Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>GOD<MH3068>! Behold<MH2009>, the prophets<MH5030> are telling<MH559> them, ‘You will not see<MH7200> a sword<MH2719>, nor<MH3808> will you have<MH1961> famine<MH7458>; on<MH3588> the<MH3588> contrary<MH3588>, I will give<MH5414> you lasting<MH571> peace<MH7965> in this<MH2088> place<MH4725>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to me, “The prophets<MH5030> are prophesying<MH5012> falsehood<MH8267> in My name<MH8034>. I have neither<MH3808> sent<MH7971> them nor<MH3808> commanded<MH6680> them, nor<MH3808> spoken<MH1696> to them; they are prophesying<MH5012> to you a false<MH8267> vision<MH2377>, divination<MH7081>, futility<MH457>, and the deception<MH8649b> of their own <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>minds<MH3820>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Therefore<MH3651> this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559> concerning<MH5921> the prophets<MH5030> who are prophesying<MH5012> in My name<MH8034>, although it was not I who sent<MH7971> them—yet they keep saying<MH559>: ‘There will be no<MH3808> sword<MH2719> or famine<MH7458> in this<MH2088> land<MH776>’—by sword<MH2719> and famine<MH7458> those<MH1992a> prophets<MH5030> shall meet<MH8552> their end<MH8552>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/14-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And the people<MH5971a> to whom<MH834> they are prophesying<MH5012> will be thrown<MH7993> out<MH7993> into the streets<MH2351> of Jerusalem<MH3389> because<MH4480, 6440> of the famine<MH7458> and the sword<MH2719>; and there<MH369> will<MH369> be<MH369> no<MH369> one<MH369> to bury<MH6912> them—<i>neither</i> them, <i>nor</i> their wives<MH802>, nor<MH369> their sons<MH1121>, nor<MH369> their daughters<MH1323>.
