For brief abbreviations, such as A., Ann., B., Ber., C. and others, found in early chemical literature and other historical reference sources, please use <b><a href="https://www.cas.org/sites/default/files/documents/beyond_cassi.pdf">Beyond CASSI</a></b>.</p> <p>You can search CASSI for publication information in one of five ways:</p> <ul> <li>Publication Title or Abbreviation</li> <li>CODEN</li> <li>ISBN</li> <li>ISSN</li> </ul> <p><b>Note</b>: There is a limit of 100 answers per search so it is recommended to make your search as specific as possible.</p> <h2 style="margin-top:15px;">Publication Title or Abbreviation Search</h2> <ul> <li>Select <b>Title or Abbreviation</b> from the drop-down list of search choices.</li> <li>Type in a text term to conduct a publication title or abbreviation search. The default search will attempt to match the search term in any part of the publication title or abbreviation, but you can specify an exact search by checking the <b>Exact match</b> box. For example, searching <i>chimica</i> could retrieve <i>Chimica Oggi</i> or <i>Thermochimica Acta</i>.</li> <li>Boolean searching is not supported, but entering multiple keywords separated by spaces is interpreted as an implied AND operator. For example, searching <i>organic chemistry</i> could retrieve <i>Bioorganic Chemistry</i> or <i>Current Organic Chemistry</i>.</li> <li>"And" and "&" can be searched interchangeably when included in the publication title. For example, a Title or Abbreviation search for <i>Chemical and Engineering News</i> will yield the same results as <i>Chemical & Engineering News</i>.</li> <li>Wildcard searching is not supported, and you must enter at least two characters to conduct a search.</li> <li>Omit special characters (e.g. β, subscripts, etc.) when searching. For example, when searching for <i>β-Casomorphins</i>, simply enter "Casomorphins" for best results. For <i>NaClO<sub>3</sub></i> , enter "NaClO" for best results.</li> <li>To conduct an exact search, check the <b>Exact match</b> box. Do not place quotation marks around your search term(s). If selecting "Exact match" for an abbreviation, please be sure to include appropriate punctuation (i.e. <i>J. Am. Chem. Soc.</i>).</li> <li>Click <b>Search</b>.</li> </ul>  <h2 style="margin-top:15px;">CODEN Search</h2> <ul> <li>Select <b>CODEN</b> from the drop-down list of choices.</li> <li>Enter the alphanumeric string for the CODEN of interest. A CODEN is a six character, alphanumeric bibliographic code that provides concise, unique and unambiguous identification of the titles of serials and non-serial publications.</li> <li>Boolean and wildcard searching are not supported, and you must enter at least two characters to conduct a search.</li> <li>If you enter a six-character, alphanumeric string this will be treated as an exact search.</li> <li>Click <b>Search</b>. </ul> <h2 style="margin-top:15px;">ISBN Search</h2> <ul> <li>Select <b>ISBN</b> from the drop-down list of choices.</li> <li>Enter the alphanumeric string for the ISBN of interest. An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a unique numeric commercial book identifier based upon a 9-, 10-, or 13-digit code. An ISBN code can consist of 4 or 5 parts, of different lengths, separated by hyphens. Instead of a number, the last digit in an ISBN code can be the letter X. Please remember to include hyphens when entering an ISBN number.</li> <li>Boolean and wildcard searching are not supported, and you must enter at least two characters to conduct a search.</li> <li>Select <b>Exact match</b> if desired.</li> <li>Click <b>Search</b>. </ul> <h2 style="margin-top:15px;">ISSN Search</h2> <ul> <li>Select <b>ISSN</b> from the drop-down list of choices.</li> <li>Enter the alphanumeric string for the ISSN of interest. An ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) is a unique 8-digit number used to identify a print or electronic periodical publication. The format of the ISSN is an eight-digit number, divided by a hyphen into two four-digit numbers. The last digit, which may be 0-9 or an X, is a check digit.
