Cartoon films screened on most TV sets in Indian homes were majorly dubbed versions of successful cartoon films from USA, Japan, Canada, etc. From around 2003 onwards, some Indian cartoons started to appear on TV especially after the Cable TV came to Indian homes. A report by UNICEF states that more than 50% of its audience is youngsters-31.1% in particular, are children aged between 0-14 years (Cardoza, 2002). According to Wartells, Heeintz, Aidman and Mazzarella (1990) cartoon programs are the favourites of children. More over 85% of the parents don&#39;t worry about their children watching cartoon programs (Byron, 2008) though they object to them watching other programs. Directly or indirectly television plays a major role in the socialization of children today because they consider the cartoon characters as their role models; one important reason being that the characters seen on television are attractive (Macklin &amp; Kolbe 1984).Indian homes the backbone of which is culture are targeted by foreign program producers and India has become a large market not only for consumer products but also for cartoon programs. Today more than three fourth of Indian cartoon programs are imported from foreign countries. There is a domination of American culture in cartoon program production (Smith, 2004). The proliferation of Japanese anime in children’s television programming in India has been far more rapid and visible than in all other segments of television. This article begins with a brief discussion on the commercial potential of children’s television in India and its trajectory between the years 2000 to 2012. It highlights the demand for children’s television content. The next section reviews the academic research on children’s television in India. Both the sections provide a context to the prevalence and popularity of imported content on Indian children’s television channels. The article further goes to highlight how Japanese animation has “taken over” children’s television in India, by drawing attention to a) the localization of Japanese content through dubbing and b) marketing strategies and merchandizing attempts—official and unauthorized--that have caught the imagination of Indian children and parents alike. The study verifies the hypothesis that Hindi dubbed cartoons are instilling linguistic patterns and culture among children. The measures for collecting data included an indigenous demographic sheet, questionnaire for school going children, and questionnaire for parents. The sample of the current research comprised of 200 respondents (students=100 and parents=100) from Lahore city through convenient sampling. The data was analyzed through SPSS version 21.00. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to analyze the relationship between watching Hindi dubbed cartoons, instilling linguistic pattern and culture. The findings revealed that there is significant correlation between watching Hindi dubbed cartoon and instilling linguistic pattern and culture. Indian television in particular was a major beneficiary of this change. The programming content, technique, reach and reception got significantly reconfigured. The evolution of exclusive children’s television channels was a major development in this scenario. The last fifteen years have witnessed the rise of many 24-hour children’s television channels in India. The myriad content (Western, Japanese and indigenous) on children’s television channels is redefining the social and cultural construction of childhood. However academic research studies that articulate this are very few and far between in the Indian context. The role of television in developing ideas on gender roles and identities has been researched in different global contexts. This paper would endeavour to build a critical narrative on the representation of gender (masculine, feminine and others) in cartoon shows on children’s television channels in India. In this research, the textual analysis of the narrative of four most popular cartoon shows on children’s television channels as demonstrated by the television ratings has been conducted. The messages being delivered through television programming have been analyzed by examining the gender roles fulfilled by different cartoon characters – feminine, masculine or others – and how gender stereotypes are propagated or challenged. The weekend episodes of the top four shows for three months (March – May 2014) are the sample for textual analysis. When it comes to talking about India, the children&#39;s genre has emerged as the largest viewership segment after India&#39;s General Entertainment Channel (GEC) sector. The channels are trying all possible means to develop their own unique selling proposition to woo this segment. Children being very fickle minded it has become a hard task for the communicators to develop the content. The researcher through two most diametrically opposite socioeconomic segments of West Bengal –semi-urban (Bolpur) and urban area (Durgapur), tries to analyze the most important factor in successful marketing of cartoon characters-the resonance that the children feel towards a particular cartoon character. The researcher conducted a child association test (CAT), among the children of both vernacular and English medium. Comparisons between the two types of programming have been made on a variety of issues. A less talked about aspect though, is the differences or similarities in how both types of productions represent gender. This study aims to identify whether both genders are presented equally in domestic and foreign productions that airs in India. A content analysis of evening prime time programming on various kids&#39; channels showed that the average ratio of male to female characters in an individual programme was 3:1. Males also outnumbered females in the programming of the majority of the countries. The gender ratio of almost all countries&#39; productions (including India) did not reflect the gender ratio of their own population as well as that of India&#39;s census population. All three countries (USA, India and Japan) with the highest number of programmes in this sample had more titles with the names of male characters than females. Among the character roles, the role of the protagonist&#39;s ally/friend/co-worker was the most common role which all countries allotted to both genders. But most of the Indian made Television Animation series contain a huge amount of religious content. Chhota Bheem is an Indian made Animated Series and one of the most viewed animated series in India. This series has been translated and dubbed in some regional languages like Tamil and Telugu, so it reaches not quite all the kids in India. There are lots of episodes and special videos for Indian Festivals in Chhota Bheem series. Festivals in India are the reflection of social and cultural values of any society. So it has been important to study the way media show these festivals, especially, the children Television. Existing literature confirmed that Chhota Bheem character is a spin-off on the adult version of Bhima from the epic Mahabharata. This Research is aimed to study the politics behind children television in India. It will also look into the representation of Indian Festivals in Children Television channels particularly Chhota Bheem Animated series. So, the Research questions are, Which Religion is predominantly represented in Chhota Bheem? Which State/Region Festivals are represented in Chhota Bheem? What is the Political agenda behind this series? To study these questions, Content Analysis method is used here. The Universe is Chhota Bheem. Under the Purposive sampling, episodes of Indian Festivals have been chosen. Some of the important findings are: Hindu Religious characters especially Krishna and Ram are predominantly used.
