In the context of Job, Zophar is speaking, implying that if Job repents, his life will be restored to a state of prosperity and joy. The imagery of "brighter than noonday" conveys the idea of the fullest light, symbolizing the highest point of blessing and understanding. Biblically, light often represents God's presence and favor (<a href="/psalms/27.htm">Psalm 27:1</a>, <a href="/john/8-12.htm">John 8:12</a>). Theologically, this can be seen as a foreshadowing of the ultimate redemption and enlightenment found in Christ, who is described as the "light of the world."<p><b>its darkness will be like the morning.</b><br>Here, the contrast between darkness and morning suggests a reversal of misfortune. Darkness, often associated with suffering, ignorance, or sin (<a href="/isaiah/9-2.htm">Isaiah 9:2</a>, <a href="/john/1-5.htm">John 1:5</a>), will be transformed into the hope and renewal symbolized by morning. This transformation is reminiscent of the resurrection theme, where death (darkness) is conquered by life (morning). Culturally, the morning is a time of new beginnings, aligning with the biblical theme of God's mercies being new every morning (<a href="/lamentations/3-22.htm">Lamentations 3:22-23</a>). This phrase can also be seen as a type of Christ's work, where He turns the darkness of sin into the light of salvation.<div class="vheading2">Persons / Places / Events</div>1. <b><a href="/topical/j/job.htm">Job</a></b><br>A man described as blameless and upright, who feared God and shunned evil. The Hebrew cannot possibly bear this meaning. The uncommon word used is allied with <span class="hebrew">עֵיפָה</span>, "obscurity," and, if a verb, should mean "thou shalt be obscure," rather than "thou shalt shine forth." But it is perhaps a substantive, meaning "darkness;" and the translation of the Revised Version is perhaps correct: "Though there be darkness." Thou shalt be as the morning. "Thy light," as Professor Lee explains, "shall gradually rise and expand itself far and wide." It shall dispel the darkness, and take its place," shining more and more unto the perfect day" (<a href="/proverbs/4-18.htm">Proverbs 4:18</a>). <span class="p"><br /><br /></span><span class="versiontext"><a href="/commentaries/job/11-17.htm">Parallel Commentaries ...</a></span><span class="p"><br /><br /><br /></span><a name="lexicon" id="lexicon"></a><div class="vheading">Hebrew</div><span class="word">Your life</span><br /><span class="heb">חָ֑לֶד</span> <span class="translit">(ḥā·leḏ)</span><br /><span class="parse">Noun - masculine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_2465.htm">Strong's 2465: </a> </span><span class="str2">Life, the world</span><br /><br /><span class="word">will be brighter</span><br /><span class="heb">יָק֣וּם</span> <span class="translit">(yā·qūm)</span><br /><span class="parse">Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_6965.htm">Strong's 6965: </a> </span><span class="str2">To arise, stand up, stand</span><br /><br /><span class="word">than noonday;</span><br /><span class="heb">וּֽ֭מִצָּהֳרַיִם</span> <span class="translit">(ū·miṣ·ṣā·ho·ra·yim)</span><br /><span class="parse">Conjunctive waw, Preposition-m | Noun - masculine plural<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_6672.htm">Strong's 6672: </a> </span><span class="str2">A light, double light, noon</span><br /><br /><span class="word">its darkness</span><br /><span class="heb">תָּ֝עֻ֗פָה</span> <span class="translit">(tā·‘u·p̄āh)</span><br /><span class="parse">Verb - Qal - Imperfect Cohortative - third person feminine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_5774.htm">Strong's 5774: </a> </span><span class="str2">To fly, to faint</span><br /><br /><span class="word">will be</span><br /><span class="heb">תִּהְיֶֽה׃</span> <span class="translit">(tih·yeh)</span><br /><span class="parse">Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person feminine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_1961.htm">Strong's 1961: </a> </span><span class="str2">To fall out, come to pass, become, be</span><br /><br /><span class="word">like the morning.</span><br /><span class="heb">כַּבֹּ֥קֶר</span> <span class="translit">(kab·bō·qer)</span><br /><span class="parse">Preposition-k, Article | Noun - masculine singular<br /></span><span class="str"><a href="/hebrew/strongs_1242.htm">Strong's 1242: </a> </span><span class="str2">Dawn, morning</span><br /><span class="p"><br /><br /></span><div class="vheading">Links</div><a href="/niv/job/11-17.htm">Job 11:17 NIV</a><br /><a href="/nlt/job/11-17.htm">Job 11:17 NLT</a><br /><a href="/esv/job/11-17.htm">Job 11:17 ESV</a><br /><a href="/nasb/job/11-17.htm">Job 11:17 NASB</a><br /><a href="/kjv/job/11-17.htm">Job 11:17 KJV</a><span class="p"><br /><br /></span><a href="//bibleapps.com/job/11-17.htm">Job 11:17 BibleApps.com</a><br /><a href="//bibliaparalela.com/job/11-17.htm">Job 11:17 Biblia Paralela</a><br /><a href="//holybible.com.cn/job/11-17.htm">Job 11:17 Chinese Bible</a><br /><a href="//saintebible.com/job/11-17.htm">Job 11:17 French Bible</a><br /><a href="/catholic/job/11-17.htm">Job 11:17 Catholic Bible</a><span class="p"><br /><br /></span><a href="/job/11-17.htm">OT Poetry: Job 11:17 Life shall be clearer than the noonday (Jb) </a></div></div></td></tr></table></div><div id="left"><a href="/job/11-16.htm" onmouseover='lft.src="/leftgif.png"' onmouseout='lft.src="/left.png"' title="Job 11:16"><img src="/left.png" name="lft" border="0" alt="Job 11:16" /></a></div><div id="right"><a href="/job/11-18.htm" onmouseover='rght.src="/rightgif.png"' onmouseout='rght.src="/right.png"' title="Job 11:18"><img src="/right.png" name="rght" border="0" alt="Job 11:18" /></a></div><div id="botleft"><a href="#" onmouseover='botleft.src="/botleftgif.png"' onmouseout='botleft.src="/botleft.png"' title="Top of Page"><img src="/botleft.png" name="botleft" border="0" alt="Top of Page" /></a></div><div id="botright"><a href="#" onmouseover='botright.src="/botrightgif.png"' onmouseout='botright.src="/botright.png"' title="Top of Page"><img src="/botright.png" name="botright" border="0" alt="Top of Page" /></a></div><div id="bot"><iframe width="100%" height="1500" scrolling="no" src="/botmenubhnew2.htm" frameborder="0"></iframe></div></td></tr></table></div></body></html>
