and Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>And it was dawn, and the spirit of Pharaoh was troubled, and he sent and called all the Sorcerers and all the Wise Ones of Egypt, and Pharaoh related to them his dreams, and there was none who interpreted them for Pharaoh.<p> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And the Chief of Drinking spoke before Pharaoh, and he said, &#8220;I remember my fault today: <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>Pharaoh was angry with his Servants and cast us in the prison in the house of the Chief of the Guard, me and the Chief Baker: <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and that man, each according to the interpretation of his dream, we dreamed. <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>And there was with us a young Hebrew man, the Servant of the Chief of the Guard, and we narrated to him and he interpreted our dreams for us, each man according to his dream he interpreted. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>And as he interpreted to us, so it happened to us: myself, I would return to my position, and he was crucified.&#8221;<p> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>And Pharaoh sent and he called Yoseph and hastily brought him from the pit, and he shaved and changed his clothes and entered before Pharaoh. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>And Pharaoh said to Yoseph, &#8220;I have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpretation for it, and I have heard about you, that you can hear a dream and interpret it.&#8221; <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>Yoseph answered and said to Pharaoh, &#8220;Do you think that without God we will answer peace to Pharaoh?&#8221; <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>And Pharaoh said to Yoseph, &#8220;In my dream, behold, I am standing on the edge of the river: <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And behold, from the river seven cows arise, fat in their flesh and their appearance excellent, and they feed in a meadow: <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>And behold seven other cows arise after them, skinny and their appearance bad and very sickly in their flesh, and I had not seen any so bad in all the land of Egypt: <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>And the sickly and ill cows ate the seven former fat cows: <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>And they went into them and it was not known that they went into them and their appearance was as bad as at the first, and I was awakened. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>And again I saw in my dream and behold seven ears arising on a reed, each full and good: <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>And behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the hot wind sprouted after them: <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>And the seven thin ears devoured the good ears, and I told the Sorcerers and there was none who showed me.&#8221;<p> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>And Yoseph said to Pharaoh, &#8220;The dream, Oh, Pharaoh, is one; that which God does he has shown to Pharaoh. <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one. <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>And the seven sickly and ill cows that came up after them are seven years and the seven thin ears that were blasted with the hot wind, they will be seven years of famine.&#8221; <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>That is the answer I spoke to Pharaoh: &#8220;Those things that God does he has shown to Pharaoh. <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>Behold, seven years of great abundance are coming in all the land of Egypt: <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-30.htm#aramaic"><b>30</b></a></span>And seven years of famine will arise after them, and all the plenty that had come into the whole land of Egypt will be forgotten, and the famine will consume the land; <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-31.htm#aramaic"><b>31</b></a></span>And the plenty will not be known in the land, because that famine afterward is very severe. <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-32.htm#aramaic"><b>32</b></a></span>And because the dream was repeated to Pharaoh two times, the response is prepared from before God, and God hastens to do it. <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-33.htm#aramaic"><b>33</b></a></span>Now Pharaoh should look for a man wise and intelligent, and he should set him over the land of Egypt. <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-34.htm#aramaic"><b>34</b></a></span>And Pharaoh should go through and let him place a Governor over the land of Egypt, and they should take one fifth in the land of Egypt in the seven years of plenty. <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-35.htm#aramaic"><b>35</b></a></span>And let them gather all the produce of these good years that are coming, and let them gather the produce under the hand of Pharaoh; they will keep the produce in the villages. <A name="37"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-36.htm#aramaic"><b>36</b></a></span>And the produce will be kept for the land in the seven years of famine to be in the entire land of Egypt, and the land will not end in hunger.&#8221;<p> <A name="38"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-37.htm#aramaic"><b>37</b></a></span>And the answer was excellent in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his Servants.<p> <A name="39"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-38.htm#aramaic"><b>38</b></a></span>And Pharaoh said to his Servants, &#8220;Is there found one like this man in whom is the Spirit of God?&#8221; <A name="40"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-39.htm#aramaic"><b>39</b></a></span>And Pharaoh said to Yoseph, &#8220;After God made known to you all this, there is none that is wise and understanding like you. <A name="41"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-40.htm#aramaic"><b>40</b></a></span>You will be over my house, and upon the word of your mouth all my people will accept judgment; only on the throne shall I be greater than you.&#8221; <A name="42"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-41.htm#aramaic"><b>41</b></a></span>And Pharaoh said to Yoseph, &#8220;See that I have authorized you over all the land of Egypt.&#8221; <A name="43"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-42.htm#aramaic"><b>42</b></a></span>And Pharaoh took his ring from his hand and he placed it on the hand of Yoseph, and clothed him with clothing of fine white linen, and cast a necklace of gold on his neck; <A name="44"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-43.htm#aramaic"><b>43</b></a></span>And he set him in his other chariot, and he was proclaimed before him, &#8220;Father and Prince&#8221;, and he gave him authority over all the land of Egypt. <A name="45"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-44.htm#aramaic"><b>44</b></a></span>And Pharaoh said to Yoseph, &#8220;I, Pharaoh, have commanded that without you a man will not lift his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.&#8221; <A name="46"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-45.htm#aramaic"><b>45</b></a></span>And Pharaoh called the name of Yoseph, Tsaphnathpanakh, because hidden things were revealed to him, and he gave to him Asyath, daughter of Putiphara, Priest of Oun, as a wife, and Yoseph went out over all the land of Egypt.<p> <A name="47"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-46.htm#aramaic"><b>46</b></a></span>And Yoseph was son of thirty years when he stood before Pharaoh the King of Egypt, and Yoseph went out from before Pharaoh and he passed through in all the land of Egypt. <A name="48"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-47.htm#aramaic"><b>47</b></a></span>And the land stocked up in granaries in the seven years of plenty. <A name="49"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-48.htm#aramaic"><b>48</b></a></span>And he collected all the produce that came in seven years of the fullness that was in the land of Egypt, and he put the produce in a town; he gathered the grain of the fields of a town and its surroundings within it. <A name="50"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-49.htm#aramaic"><b>49</b></a></span>And Yoseph gathered grain as the sand of the sea, a great abundance, until he was weary of counting without number.<p> <A name="51"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-50.htm#aramaic"><b>50</b></a></span>And to Yoseph were born two sons, before a year of famine would come in, for Asyath, daughter of Putiphara, Priest of Oun, had given birth by him. <A name="52"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-51.htm#aramaic"><b>51</b></a></span>And Yoseph called the name of his firstborn son Manasheh, because, &#8220;God made me forget all my labor and all the house of my father.&#8221; <A name="53"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-52.htm#aramaic"><b>52</b></a></span>And the name of the other he called Aphreim, because, &#8220;God made me fruitful in the land of my bondage.&#8221;<p> <A name="54"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-53.htm#aramaic"><b>53</b></a></span>And the seven years of the plenty ended that had come upon the land of Egypt. <A name="55"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-54.htm#aramaic"><b>54</b></a></span>And seven years of famine began to come according to what Yoseph said, and there was a famine in all lands and in all the land of Egypt there was no bread. <A name="56"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/41-55.htm#aramaic"><b>55</b></a></span>And all the land of Egypt was hungry, and the people appealed unto Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, &#8220;Go to Yoseph, and anything that he says to you, you will do.&#8221;
