<span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>For a while<MG5550> he was unwilling<MG3756, 2309>; but later<MG3326, 3778> he said<MG3004> to himself<MG1438>, &#8216;Even<MG2532> though<MG1487> I do not fear<MG5399> God<MG2316> nor<MG3761> respect<MG1788> <i>any</i> person<MG444>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>yet<MG1065> because<MG1223> this<MG3778> widow<MG5503> is bothering<MG3930, 2873> me, I will give<MG1556> her justice<MG1556>; otherwise<MG2443, 3361> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>by continually<MG1519, 5056> coming<MG2064> she will wear<MG5299> me out<MG5299>.&#8217;&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And the Lord<MG2962> said<MG3004>, &#8220;Listen<MG191> to what<MG5101> the unrighteous<MG93> judge<MG2923> *said<MG3004>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>now<MG1161>, will God<MG2316> not bring<MG4160> about<MG4160> justice<MG1557> for His elect<MG1588> who cry<MG994> out<MG994> to Him day<MG2250> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>and night<MG3571>, and will He delay<MG3114> long<MG3114> for them? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>I tell<MG3004> you that He will bring<MG4160> about<MG4160> justice<MG1557> for them quickly<MG5034>. However<MG4133>, when the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> comes<MG2064>, will He find<MG2147> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>faith<MG4102> on the earth<MG1093>?&#8221; <p class="hdg">The Pharisee and the Tax Collector</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> He also<MG2532> told<MG3004> this<MG3778> parable<MG3850b> to some<MG5100> people<MG5100> who trusted<MG3982> in themselves<MG1438> that they were righteous<MG1342>, and viewed<MG1848> others<MG3062> with<MG1848> contempt<MG1848>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>&#8220;Two<MG1417> men<MG444> went<MG305> up<MG305> into the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>temple<MG2413> to pray<MG4336>, one<MG1520> a Pharisee<MG5330> and the other<MG2087> a tax<MG5057> collector<MG5057>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>The Pharisee<MG5330> stood<MG2476> and <i>began</i> praying<MG4336> this<MG3778> in<MG4314> regard<MG4314> to<MG4314> himself<MG1438>: &#8216;God<MG2316>, I thank<MG2168> You that I am<MG1510> not like<MG5618> other<MG3062> people<MG444>: swindlers<MG727>, crooked<MG94>, adulterers<MG3432>, or<MG2228> even<MG2532> like<MG5613> this<MG3778> tax<MG5057> collector<MG5057>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>I fast<MG3522> twice<MG1364> a week<MG4521>; I pay<MG586a> tithes<MG586a> of all<MG3956> that I get<MG2932>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But the tax<MG5057> collector<MG5057>, standing<MG2476> some<MG3113> distance<MG3113> away<MG3113>, was even<MG3761> unwilling<MG3756, 2309> to raise<MG1869> his eyes<MG3788> toward<MG1519> heaven<MG3772>, but was beating<MG5180> his chest<MG4738>, saying<MG3004>, &#8216;God<MG2316>, be<MG2433> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>merciful<MG2433> to me, the sinner<MG268>!&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>I tell<MG3004> you, this<MG3778> man<MG3778> went<MG2597> to his house<MG3624> justified<MG1344> rather<MG3844> than<MG3844> the other<MG1565> one<MG1565>; for everyone<MG3956> who exalts<MG5312> himself<MG1438> will be humbled<MG5013>, but the one who humbles<MG5013> himself<MG1438> will be exalted<MG5312>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> they were bringing<MG4374> even<MG2532> their babies<MG1025> to Him so<MG2443> that<MG2443> He would touch<MG681> them; but when the disciples<MG3101> saw<MG3708> <i>it,</i> they <i>began</i> rebuking<MG2008> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>But Jesus<MG2424> called<MG4341> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>the little ones, saying<MG3004>, &#8220;Allow<MG863> the children<MG3813> to come<MG2064> to Me, and do not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>forbid<MG2967> them, for the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> belongs<MG1510> to such<MG5108> as<MG5108> these<MG5108>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, whoever<MG3739, 302> does not receive<MG1209> the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> like<MG5613> a child<MG3813> will not enter<MG1525> it at<MG3361> all<MG3361>.&#8221; <p class="hdg">The Rich Young Ruler</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>A ruler<MG758> questioned<MG1905> Him, saying<MG3004>, &#8220;Good<MG18> Teacher<MG1320>, what<MG5101> shall I do<MG4160> to inherit<MG2816> eternal<MG166> life<MG2222>?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>But Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to him, &#8220;Why<MG5101> do you call<MG3004> Me <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>good<MG18>? No<MG3762> one<MG3762> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>good<MG18> except<MG1508> God<MG2316> alone<MG1520>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>You know<MG3609a> the commandments<MG1785>, &#8216;DO NOT COMMIT<MG3431> ADULTERY<MG3431>, DO NOT MURDER<MG5407>, DO NOT STEAL<MG2813>, DO NOT GIVE<MG5576> FALSE<MG5576> TESTIMONY<MG5576>, HONOR<MG5091> YOUR FATHER<MG3962> AND MOTHER<MG3384>.&#8217;&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And he said<MG3004>, &#8220;All<MG3956> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> I have kept<MG5442> since<MG1537> <i>my</i> youth<MG3503>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> when Jesus<MG2424> heard<MG191> <i>this,</i> He said<MG3004> to him, &#8220;One<MG1520> thing<MG1520> you still<MG2089> lack<MG3007>; sell<MG4453> all<MG3956> that you possess<MG2192> and distribute<MG1239> <i>the money</i> to the poor<MG4434>, and you will have<MG2192> treasure<MG2344> in heaven<MG3772>; and come<MG1204>, follow<MG190> Me.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But when he had heard<MG191> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, he became<MG1096> very<MG4036> sad<MG4036>, for he was extremely<MG4970> wealthy<MG4145>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> looked<MG3708> at him and said<MG3004>, &#8220;How<MG4459> hard<MG1423> it is for those<MG3588> who are wealthy<MG5536> to enter<MG1531> the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>For it is easier<MG2123> for a camel<MG2574> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>go<MG1525> through<MG1223> the eye<MG5144a> of a needle<MG956a>, than<MG2228> for a rich<MG4145> person<MG4145> to enter<MG1525> the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316>!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Those who heard<MG191> <i>Him</i> said<MG3004>, &#8220;And <i>so</i> who<MG5101> can<MG1410> be saved<MG4982>?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>But He said<MG3004>, &#8220;The things<MG102> that<MG102> are<MG102> impossible<MG102> with people<MG444> are possible<MG1415> with God<MG2316>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Peter<MG4074> said<MG3004>, &#8220;Behold<MG2400>, we have left<MG863> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>our own<MG2398> homes and followed<MG190> You.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, there is no<MG3762> one<MG3762> who<MG3739> has left<MG863> house<MG3614>, or<MG2228> wife<MG1135>, or<MG2228> brothers<MG80>, or<MG2228> parents<MG1118>, or<MG2228> children<MG5043> for the sake<MG1752a> of the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>who<MG3739> will not receive<MG2983> many<MG4179> times<MG4179> as<MG4179> much<MG4179> at this<MG3778> time<MG2540>, and in the age<MG165> to come<MG2064>, eternal<MG166> life<MG2222>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> He took<MG3880> the twelve<MG1427> aside<MG3880> and said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;Behold<MG2400>, we are going<MG305> up<MG305> to Jerusalem<MG2419>, and all<MG3956> the things<MG3956> that have been written<MG1125> through<MG1223> the prophets<MG4396> about the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> will be accomplished<MG5055>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>For He will be <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>handed<MG3860> over<MG3860> to the Gentiles<MG1484>, and will be ridiculed<MG1702>, and abused<MG5195>, and spit<MG1716> upon<MG1716>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>and after they have flogged<MG3146> Him, they will kill<MG615> Him; and on the third<MG5154> day<MG2250> He will rise<MG450>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>The disciples understood<MG4920> none<MG3762> of these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, and <i>the meaning of</i> this<MG3778> statement<MG4487> was hidden<MG2928> from them, and they did not comprehend<MG1097> the things that were said<MG3004>. <p class="hdg">Bartimaeus Receives Sight</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> as <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>Jesus was approaching<MG1448> Jericho<MG2410a>, a man<MG5185> who<MG5185> was<MG5185> blind<MG5185> was sitting<MG2521> by the road<MG3598>, begging<MG1871>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>But when he heard<MG191> a crowd<MG3793> going<MG1279> by, he <i>began</i> inquiring<MG4441> what<MG5101> this<MG3778> was. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>They told<MG518> him that Jesus<MG2424> of Nazareth<MG3480> was passing<MG3928> by. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And he called<MG994> out<MG994>, saying<MG3004>, &#8220;Jesus<MG2424>, Son<MG5207> of David<MG1160b>, have<MG1653> mercy<MG1653> on me!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>Those<MG3588> who led<MG4254> the<MG4254> way<MG4254> were sternly<MG2008> telling<MG2008> him to be quiet<MG4601>; but he kept crying<MG2905> out<MG2905> all<MG4183> the more<MG3123>, &#8220;Son<MG5207> of David<MG1160b>, have<MG1653> mercy<MG1653> on me!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> stopped<MG2476> and commanded<MG2753> that he be brought<MG71> to Him; and when he came<MG1448> near<MG1448>, He asked<MG1905> him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>&#8220;What<MG5101> do you want<MG2309> Me to do<MG4160> for you?&#8221; And he said<MG3004>, &#8220;Lord<MG2962>, <i>I want</i> to regain<MG308> my sight<MG308>!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to him, &#8220;Regain<MG308> your sight<MG308>;
