class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In traditional integrated berth allocation with quay crane assignment models, time dimension is usually assumed in hourly based. However, nowadays, transshipment becomes the main business to many container terminals, especially in Southeast Asia (e.g. Hong Kong and Singapore). In these terminals, vessel arrivals are usually very frequent with small handling volume and very short staying time. Therefore, the traditional hourly-based modeling approach may cause significant berth and quay crane idling, and consequently cannot meet their practical needs. In this connection, a 15-minute-based modeling approach is requested by industrial practitioners. Accordingly, a Three-level Genetic Algorithm (3LGA) with Quay Crane (QC) shifting heuristics is designed to fulfill the research gap. The objective function here is to minimize the total service time. Preliminary numerical results show that the proposed 15-minute-based approach can reduce the berth and QC idling significantly. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transshipment" title="transshipment">transshipment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=integrated%20berth%20allocation" title=" integrated berth allocation"> integrated berth allocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variable-in-time%20quay%20crane%20assignment" title=" variable-in-time quay crane assignment"> variable-in-time quay crane assignment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quay%20crane%20assignment" title=" quay crane assignment"> quay crane assignment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95988/a-15-minute-based-approach-for-berth-allocation-and-quay-crane-assignment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95988.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">169</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">867</span> AI-based Radio Resource and Transmission Opportunity Allocation for 5G-V2X HetNets: NR and NR-U Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farshad%20Zeinali">Farshad Zeinali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sajedeh%20Norouzi"> Sajedeh Norouzi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nader%20Mokari"> Nader Mokari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eduard%20Jorswieck"> Eduard Jorswieck</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The capacity of fifth-generation (5G) vehicle-to-everything (V2X) networks poses significant challenges. To ad- dress this challenge, this paper utilizes New Radio (NR) and New Radio Unlicensed (NR-U) networks to develop a heterogeneous vehicular network (HetNet). We propose a new framework, named joint BS assignment and resource allocation (JBSRA) for mobile V2X users and also consider coexistence schemes based on flexible duty cycle (DC) mechanism for unlicensed bands. Our objective is to maximize the average throughput of vehicles while guaranteeing the WiFi users' throughput. In simulations based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms such as deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) and deep Q network (DQN), our proposed framework outperforms existing solutions that rely on fixed DC or schemes without consideration of unlicensed bands. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vehicle-to-everything%20%28V2X%29" title="vehicle-to-everything (V2X)">vehicle-to-everything (V2X)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resource%20allocation" title=" resource allocation"> resource allocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BS%20assignment" title=" BS assignment"> BS assignment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=new%20radio%20%28NR%29" title=" new radio (NR)"> new radio (NR)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=new%20radio%20unlicensed%20%28NR-U%29" title=" new radio unlicensed (NR-U)"> new radio unlicensed (NR-U)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coexistence%20NR-U%20and%20WiFi" title=" coexistence NR-U and WiFi"> coexistence NR-U and WiFi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20deterministic%20policy%20gradient%20%28DDPG%29" title=" deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG)"> deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20Q-network%20%28DQN%29" title=" deep Q-network (DQN)"> deep Q-network (DQN)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=joint%20BS%20assignment%20and%20resource%20allocation%20%28JBSRA%29" title=" joint BS assignment and resource allocation (JBSRA)"> joint BS assignment and resource allocation (JBSRA)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=duty%20cycle%20mechanism" title=" duty cycle mechanism"> duty cycle mechanism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165699/ai-based-radio-resource-and-transmission-opportunity-allocation-for-5g-v2x-hetnets-nr-and-nr-u-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165699.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">103</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">866</span> Resource Allocation and Task Scheduling with Skill Level and Time Bound Constraints</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salam%20Saudagar">Salam Saudagar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ankit%20Kamboj"> Ankit Kamboj</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Niraj%20Mohan"> Niraj Mohan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Satgounda%20Patil"> Satgounda Patil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nilesh%20Powar"> Nilesh Powar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Task Assignment and Scheduling is a challenging Operations Research problem when there is a limited number of resources and comparatively higher number of tasks. The Cost Management team at Cummins needs to assign tasks based on a deadline and must prioritize some of the tasks as per business requirements. Moreover, there is a constraint on the resources that assignment of tasks should be done based on an individual skill level, that may vary for different tasks. Another constraint is for scheduling the tasks that should be evenly distributed in terms of number of working hours, which adds further complexity to this problem. The proposed greedy approach to solve assignment and scheduling problem first assigns the task based on management priority and then by the closest deadline. This is followed by an iterative selection of an available resource with the least allocated total working hours for a task, i.e. finding the local optimal choice for each task with the goal of determining the global optimum. The greedy approach task allocation is compared with a variant of Hungarian Algorithm, and it is observed that the proposed approach gives an equal allocation of working hours among the resources. The comparative study of the proposed approach is also done with manual task allocation and it is noted that the visibility of the task timeline has increased from 2 months to 6 months. An interactive dashboard app is created for the greedy assignment and scheduling approach and the tasks with more than 2 months horizon that were waiting in a queue without a delivery date initially are now analyzed effectively by the business with expected timelines for completion. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assignment" title="assignment">assignment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deadline" title=" deadline"> deadline</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=greedy%20approach" title=" greedy approach"> greedy approach</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hungarian%20algorithm" title=" Hungarian algorithm"> Hungarian algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=operations%20research" title=" operations research"> operations research</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scheduling" title=" scheduling"> scheduling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128820/resource-allocation-and-task-scheduling-with-skill-level-and-time-bound-constraints" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128820.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">147</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">865</span> Mathematical Model and Algorithm for the Berth and Yard Resource Allocation at Seaports</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ming%20Liu">Ming Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhihui%20Sun"> Zhihui Sun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiaoning%20Zhang"> Xiaoning Zhang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper studies a deterministic container transportation problem, jointly optimizing the berth allocation, quay crane assignment and yard storage allocation at container ports. Topology-aware job allocation problem (TJAP) is such a problem that decides how to dedicate nodes to specific applications to mitigate inter-job network interference. In this paper, we study the window-based TJAP on a fat-tree network aiming at minimizing the cost of communication hop, a defined inter-job interference metric. The window-based approach for scheduling repeats periodically, taking the jobs in the queue and solving an assignment problem that maps jobs to the available nodes. Two special allocation strategies are considered, i.e., static continuity assignment strategy (SCAS) and dynamic continuity assignment strategy (DCAS). For the SCAS, a 0-1 integer programming is developed. For the DCAS, an approach called neural simulated algorithm (NSA), which is an extension to simulated algorithm (SA) that learns a repair operator and employs them in a guided heuristic search, is proposed. The efficacy of NSA is demonstrated with a computational study against SA and SCIP. The results of numerical experiments indicate that both the model and algorithm proposed in this paper are effective. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high-performance%20computing" title="high-performance computing">high-performance computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=job%20allocation" title=" job allocation"> job allocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neural%20simulated%20annealing" title=" neural simulated annealing"> neural simulated annealing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=topology-aware" title=" topology-aware"> topology-aware</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160964/optimization-of-topology-aware-job-allocation-on-a-high-performance-computing-cluster-by-neural-simulated-annealing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160964.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">118</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">863</span> Discretization of Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm for Solving Quadratic Assignment Problems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elham%20Kazemi">Elham Kazemi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP) is one the combinatorial optimization problems about which research has been done in many companies for allocating some facilities to some locations. The issue of particular importance in this process is the costs of this allocation and the attempt in this problem is to minimize this group of costs. Since the QAP’s are from NP-hard problem, they cannot be solved by exact solution methods. Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm is a Meta-heuristicmethod which has higher capability to find the global optimal points. It is an algorithm which is basically raised to search a continuous space. The Quadratic Assignment Problem is the issue which can be solved in the discrete space, thus the standard arithmetic operators of Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm need to be redefined on the discrete space in order to apply the Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm on the discrete searching space. This paper represents the way of discretizing the Cuckoo optimization algorithm for solving the quadratic assignment problem. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Quadratic%20Assignment%20Problem%20%28QAP%29" title="Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP)">Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Discrete%20Cuckoo%20Optimization%20Algorithm%20%28DCOA%29" title=" Discrete Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm (DCOA)"> Discrete Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm (DCOA)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=meta-heuristic%20algorithms" title=" meta-heuristic algorithms"> meta-heuristic algorithms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization%20algorithms" title=" optimization algorithms"> optimization algorithms</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25249/discretization-of-cuckoo-optimization-algorithm-for-solving-quadratic-assignment-problems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25249.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">517</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">862</span> Qualitative Study Method on Case Assignment Adopted by Singapore Medical Social Workers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joleen%20L.%20H.%20Lee">Joleen L. However, there is no known study that has explored how MSWs in Singapore assign cases to achieve equity in work distribution. Focus group discussions were conducted with MSWs from public hospitals to understand their perception on equitable workload and case allocation. Three approaches to case allocation were found. First is the point system where points are allocated to cases based on a checklist of presenting issues identified most of the time by non-MSWs. Intensity of case is taken into consideration, but allocation of points is often subject to variation in appreciation of roles of MSWs by the source of referral. Second is the round robin system, where all MSWs are allocated cases based on a roster. This approach resulted in perceived equity due to element of luck, but it does not match case complexity with competencies of MSWs. Third approach is unit-based allocation, where MSWs are assigned to attend to cases from specific unit. This approach helps facilitate specialization among MSWs but may result in MSWs having difficulty providing transdisciplinary care due to narrow set of knowledge and skills. Trade-offs resulted across existing approaches for case allocation by MSWs. Conversations are needed among Singapore MSWs to decide on a case allocation system that comes with trade-offs that are acceptable for patients and other key stakeholders of the care delivery system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=case%20allocation" title="case allocation">case allocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equity" title=" equity"> equity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medical%20social%20worker" title=" medical social worker"> medical social worker</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=work%20distribution" title=" work distribution"> work distribution</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122201/qualitative-study-method-on-case-assignment-adopted-by-singapore-medical-social-workers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122201.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">125</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">861</span> A Priority Based Imbalanced Time Minimization Assignment Problem: An Iterative Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ekta%20Jain">Ekta Jain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kalpana%20Dahiya"> Kalpana Dahiya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vanita%20Verma"> Vanita Verma</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper discusses a priority based imbalanced time minimization assignment problem dealing with the allocation of n jobs to m < n persons in which the project is carried out in two stages, viz. Stage-I and Stage-II. Stage-I consists of n1 ( < m) primary jobs and Stage-II consists of remaining (n-n1) secondary jobs which are commenced only after primary jobs are finished. Each job is to be allocated to exactly one person, and each person has to do at least one job. It is assumed that nature of the Stage-I jobs is such that one person can do exactly one primary job whereas a person can do more than one secondary job in Stage-II. In a particular stage, all persons start doing the jobs simultaneously, but if a person is doing more than one job, he does them one after the other in any order. For this, an iterative algorithm is proposed, which at each iteration, solves a constrained imbalanced time minimization assignment problem to generate a pair of Stage-I and Stage-II times. For solving this constrained problem, an algorithm is developed in the current paper. Later, alternate combinations based method to solve the priority based imbalanced problem is also discussed and a comparative study is carried out. Numerical illustrations are provided in support of the theory. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assignment" title="assignment">assignment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=imbalanced" title=" imbalanced"> imbalanced</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=priority" title=" priority"> priority</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time%20minimization" title=" time minimization"> time minimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75198/a-priority-based-imbalanced-time-minimization-assignment-problem-an-iterative-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75198.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">234</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">860</span> Nurse-Patient Assignment: Case of Pediatrics Department</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jihene%20Jlassi">Jihene Jlassi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Frikha"> Ahmed Frikha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wazna%20Kortli"> Wazna Kortli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The objectives of Nurse-Patient Assignment are the minimization of the overall hospital cost and the maximization of nurses ‘preferences. It is a combinatorial optimization problem which focuses on determining an optimal assignment of components in a system design. In this paper, to be more practical, we have considered the problem of redundancy allocation of series system with interval valued reliability of components. Therefore, during the search process, the reliabilities of the components are considered as a stochastic variable with a lower and upper bounds. In order to optimize the problem, we proposed a simulated annealing based on cloud theory (CBSAA). Also, the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) is embedded to the CBSAA to handle the random variable components’ reliability. This novel approach has been investigated by numerical examples and the experimental results have shown that the CBSAA combining MCS is an efficient tool to solve the RAP of systems with interval-valued component reliabilities. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=redundancy%20allocation%20problem" title="redundancy allocation problem">redundancy allocation problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulated%20annealing" title=" simulated annealing"> simulated annealing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cloud%20theory" title=" cloud theory"> cloud theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=monte%20carlo%20simulation" title=" monte carlo simulation"> monte carlo simulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33681/a-novel-meta-heuristic-algorithm-based-on-cloud-theory-for-redundancy-allocation-problem-under-realistic-condition" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33681.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">412</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">857</span> A Petri Net Model to Obtain the Throughput of Unreliable Production Lines in the Buffer Allocation Problem</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joselito%20Medina-Marin">Joselito Medina-Marin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexandr%20Karelin"> Alexandr Karelin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Tarasenko"> Ana Tarasenko</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juan%20Carlos%20Seck-Tuoh-Mora"> Juan Carlos Seck-Tuoh-Mora</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Norberto%20Hernandez-Romero"> Norberto Hernandez-Romero</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eva%20Selene%20Hernandez-Gress"> Eva Selene Hernandez-Gress</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A production line designer faces with several challenges in manufacturing system design. In principle, GAP intends to maintain the maximum capacity of the airport through the best possible allocation of the resources (gates) in order to reach the optimum outcome. The problem involves a wide range of dependent and independent resources and their limitations, which add to the complexity of GAP from both theoretical and practical perspective. In this study, GAP was mathematically formulated as a three-objective problem. The preliminary goal of multi-objective formulation was to address a higher number of objectives that can be simultaneously optimized and therefore increase the practical efficiency of the final solution. The problem is solved by applying the second version of Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II). Results showed that the proposed mathematical model could address most of major criteria in the decision-making process in airport management in terms of minimizing both airport/airline cost and passenger walking distance time. Moreover, the proposed approach could properly find acceptable possible answers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=airport%20management" title="airport management">airport management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gate%20assignment%20problem" title=" gate assignment problem"> gate assignment problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematical%20modeling" title=" mathematical modeling"> mathematical modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genetic%20algorithm" title=" genetic algorithm"> genetic algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NSGA-II" title=" NSGA-II"> NSGA-II</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63467/an-evolutionary-multi-objective-optimization-for-airport-gate-assignment-problem" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63467.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">299</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">855</span> Cross-Layer Design of Event-Triggered Adaptive OFDMA Resource Allocation Protocols with Application to Vehicle Clusters</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shaban%20Guma">Shaban Guma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naim%20Bajcinca"> Naim Bajcinca</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We propose an event-triggered algorithm for the solution of a distributed optimization problem by means of the projected subgradient method. The potential financial loss due to imbalances of demand and supply in congested airports, higher occupation rates of gates, and the existing restrictions to expand facilities provide further evidence for the need for an optimal supply allocation. Passengers walking distance, towing movements, extra fuel consumption (as a result of awaiting longer to taxi when taxi conflicts happen at the apron area), etc. are the major traditional components involved in GAP models. In particular, the total cost associated with gate assignment problem highly depends on the airport terminal layout. The study herein presents a well-elaborated literature review on the topic focusing on major concerns, applicable variables and objectives, as well as proposing a three-objective mathematical model for the gate assignment problem. The model has been tested under different concourse layouts in order to check its performance in different scenarios. Results revealed that terminal layout pattern is a significant parameter in airport and that the proposed model is capable of dealing with key constraints and objectives, which supports its practical usability for future decision making tools. Potential solution techniques were also suggested in this study for future works. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=airport%20management" title="airport management">airport management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=terminal%20layout" title=" terminal layout"> terminal layout</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gate%20assignment%20problem" title=" gate assignment problem"> gate assignment problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematical%20modeling" title=" mathematical modeling"> mathematical modeling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77708/a-multi-objective-gate-assignment-model-based-on-airport-terminal-configuration" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77708.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">229</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">853</span> Loss Allocation in Radial Distribution Networks for Loads of Composite Types</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sumit%20Banerjee">Sumit Banerjee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chandan%20Kumar%20Chanda"> Chandan Kumar Chanda</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The paper presents allocation of active power losses and energy losses to consumers connected to radial distribution networks in a deregulated environment for loads of composite types. The construction and development of roads through private sector participation is performed by different countries because of appropriate results and benefits such as compensation of public budget deficit in road construction and maintenance and responding to traffic growth (demand). Toll is the most definite form of budget provision in road development. There are two issues in the toll rate assignment: A. costing of transport, B. Cost allocation and distribution of cost between different types of vehicles as each vehicle pay its own share. There can be different goals in toll collection and its extent is variable according to the strategy of toll collection. Costing principles in different countries are based on inclusion of the whole transport and not peculiar to the toll roads. For example, fuel tax policy functions where the road network users pay transportation cost (not just users of toll road). Whereas transportation infrastructures in Iran are free, these methods are not applicable. In Iran, different toll freeways have built by public investment and government provides participation in the road construction through encouragement of financial institutions. In this paper, the existing policies about the toll roads are studied and then the appropriate method of costing and cost allocation to different vehicles is introduced. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=toll%20allocation" title="toll allocation">toll allocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=road%20pricing" title=" road pricing"> road pricing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transportation" title=" transportation"> transportation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20and%20industrial%20systems" title=" financial and industrial systems"> financial and industrial systems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5827/providing-a-road-pricing-and-toll-allocation-method-for-toll-roads" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5827.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">363</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">851</span> Seat Assignment Model for Student Admissions Process at Saudi Higher Education Institutions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammed%20Salem%20Alzahrani">Mohammed Salem Alzahrani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, student admission process is studied to optimize the assignment of vacant seats with three main objectives. The main aim of this study is to investigate the nature of capital allocation dynamics by comparing the relevant studies carried out on external and internal capital markets with paying special significance to the business groups. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internal%20capital%20markets" title="internal capital markets">internal capital markets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=external%20capital%20markets" title=" external capital markets"> external capital markets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capital%20structure" title=" capital structure"> capital structure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capital%20allocation" title=" capital allocation"> capital allocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=business%20groups" title=" business groups"> business groups</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corporate%20finance" title=" corporate finance"> corporate finance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89423/understanding-the-nature-of-capital-allocation-problem-in-corporate-finance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89423.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">195</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">849</span> A New Reliability Allocation Method Based on Fuzzy Numbers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peng%20Li">Peng Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chuanri%20Li"> Chuanri Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tao%20Li"> Tao Li </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Reliability allocation is quite important during early design and development stages for a system to apportion its specified reliability goal to subsystems. This paper improves the reliability fuzzy allocation method and gives concrete processes on determining the factor set, the factor weight set, judgment set, and multi-grade fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. To determine the weight of factor set, the modified trapezoidal numbers are proposed to reduce errors caused by subjective factors. To decrease the fuzziness in the fuzzy division, an approximation method based on linear programming is employed. To compute the explicit values of fuzzy numbers, centroid method of defuzzification is considered. The research work is concentrating on pin assignment for 2 or 3 droplets routing in the arbitrary biochemical protocol, scheduling and routing in m × n biochip. The volumetric error arises due to droplet split in the biochip. The volumetric error detection is also addressed using biochip AND logic gate which is known as microfluidic AND or mAND gate. The algorithm for pin assignment for m × n biochip required m+n-1 numbers of pins. The basic principle of this algorithm is that no same pin will be allowed to be placed in the same column, same row and diagonal and adjacent cells. The same pin should be placed a distance apart such that interference becomes less. It is consists in defining an assignment of frequencies to radio links, to be established between base stations and mobile transmitters. Separation of the frequencies assigned is necessary to avoid interference. However, unnecessary separation causes an excess requirement for spectrum, the cost of which may be very high. This problem is NP-hard problem which cannot be solved by conventional optimization algorithms. It is therefore necessary to use metaheuristic methods to solve it. This paper proposes Hybrid approach based on simulated annealing (SA) and Tabu Search (TS) methods to solve this problem. Computational results, obtained on a number of standard problem instances, testify the effectiveness of the proposed approach. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cellular%20mobile%20communication" title="cellular mobile communication">cellular mobile communication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=frequency%20assignment%20problem" title=" frequency assignment problem"> frequency assignment problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization" title=" optimization"> optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tabu%20search" title=" tabu search"> tabu search</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulated%20annealing" title=" simulated annealing"> simulated annealing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14250/hybrid-approach-for-the-min-interference-frequency-assignment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14250.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">385</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">842</span> Spectrum Allocation Using Cognitive Radio in Wireless Mesh Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayoub%20Alsarhan">Ayoub Alsarhan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Otoom"> Ahmed Otoom</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yousef%20Kilani"> Yousef Kilani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdel-Rahman%20al-GHuwairi"> Abdel-Rahman al-GHuwairi </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) have emerged recently to improve internet access and other networking services. WMNs provide network access to the clients and other networking functions such as routing, and packet forwarding. Spectrum scarcity is the main challenge that limits the performance of WMNs. Cognitive radio is proposed to solve spectrum scarcity problem. In this paper, we consider a cognitive wireless mesh network where unlicensed users (secondary users, SUs) can access free spectrum that is allocated to spectrum owners (primary users, PUs). Although considerable research has been conducted on spectrum allocation, spectrum assignment is still considered an important challenging problem. This problem can be solved using cognitive radio technology that allows SUs to intelligently locate free bands and access them without interfering with PUs. Our scheme considers several heuristics for spectrum allocation. These heuristics include: channel error rate, PUs activities, channel capacity and channel switching time. Performance evaluation of the proposed scheme shows that the scheme is able to allocate the unused spectrum for SUs efficiently. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive%20radio" title="cognitive radio">cognitive radio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20spectrum%20access" title=" dynamic spectrum access"> dynamic spectrum access</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectrum%20management" title=" spectrum management"> spectrum management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectrum%20sharing" title=" spectrum sharing"> spectrum sharing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wireless%20mesh%20networks" title=" wireless mesh networks"> wireless mesh networks</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12925/spectrum-allocation-using-cognitive-radio-in-wireless-mesh-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12925.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">529</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">841</span> Solving Process Planning and Scheduling with Number of Operation Plus Processing Time Due-Date Assignment Concurrently Using a Genetic Search</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Halil%20Ibrahim%20Demir">Halil Ibrahim Demir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alper%20Goksu"> Alper Goksu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Onur%20Canpolat"> Onur Canpolat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Caner%20Erden"> Caner Erden</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Melek%20Nur"> Melek Nur</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Traditionally process planning, scheduling and due date assignment are performed sequentially and separately. The interdependence of these functions requires integration. Although integrated process planning and scheduling, and scheduling with due date assignment problems are popular research topics, only a few works address the integration of these three functions. This work focuses on the integration of process planning, WMS scheduling, and WPPW due date assignment. Another novelty of this work is the use of a weighted due date assignment. In the literature, due dates are generally assigned without considering the importance of customers. However, in this study, more important customers get closer due dates. Typically, only tardiness is punished, but the JIT philosophy punishes both earliness and tardiness. In this study, all weighted earliness, tardiness, and due date related costs are penalized. As no customer desires distant due dates, such distant due dates should be penalized. In this study, various levels of integration of these three functions are tested and genetic search and random search are compared both with each other and with ordinary solutions. Higher integration levels are superior, while search is always useful. Genetic searches outperformed random searches. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=process%20planning" title="process planning">process planning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weighted%20scheduling" title=" weighted scheduling"> weighted scheduling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weighted%20due-date%20assignment" title=" weighted due-date assignment"> weighted due-date assignment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genetic%20algorithm" title=" genetic algorithm"> genetic algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=random%20search" title=" random search"> random search</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51544/integrating-process-planning-wms-dispatching-and-wppw-weighted-due-date-assignment-using-a-genetic-algorithm" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51544.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">394</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">839</span> A Resource Optimization Strategy for CPU (Central Processing Unit) Intensive Applications</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Junjie%20Peng">Junjie Peng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jinbao%20Chen"> Jinbao Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shuai%20Kong"> Shuai Kong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Danxu%20Liu"> Danxu Liu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> On the basis of traditional resource allocation strategies, the usage of resources on physical servers in cloud data center is great uncertain. It will cause waste of resources if the assignment of tasks is not enough. On the contrary, it will cause overload if the assignment of tasks is too much. This is especially obvious when the applications are the same type because of its resource preferences. Considering CPU intensive application is one of the most common types of application in the cloud, we studied the optimization strategy for CPU intensive applications on the same server. We used resource preferences to analyze the case that multiple CPU intensive applications run simultaneously, and put forward a model which can predict the execution time for CPU intensive applications which run simultaneously. Based on the prediction model, we proposed the method to select the appropriate number of applications for a machine. Experiments show that the model can predict the execution time accurately for CPU intensive applications. To improve the execution efficiency of applications, we propose a scheduling model based on priority for CPU intensive applications.
