So be<MH8104> very<MH3966> careful<MH8104>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>do not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>provoke<MH1624> them, for I will not give<MH5414> you any<MH4480> of their land<MH776>, <i>not even</i> as<MH5704> much<MH5704> as<MH5704> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>footprint<MH4096, 3709, 7272>, because<MH3588> I have given<MH5414> Mount<MH2022> Seir<MH8165> to Esau<MH6215> as a possession<MH3425>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>You are to buy<MH7666> food<MH400> from them with money<MH3701> so that you may eat<MH398>, and you shall also<MH1571> purchase<MH3739> water<MH4325> from them with money<MH3701> so that you may drink<MH8354>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>For the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> has blessed<MH1288> you in all<MH3605> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>that you have done<MH3027>; He has known<MH3045> your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>wandering<MH1980> through this<MH2088> great<MH1419> wilderness<MH4057b>. These<MH2088> forty<MH705> years<MH8141> the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> has been with you; you have not lacked<MH2637> anything<MH1697>.&#8221;&#8217; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>&#8220;So we passed<MH5674a> beyond<MH5674a, 4480> our brothers<MH251> the sons<MH1121> of Esau<MH6215>, who live<MH3427> in Seir<MH8165>, away<MH4480> from the Arabah<MH6160> road<MH1870>, away<MH4480> from Elath<MH365a> and Ezion-geber<MH6100>. And we turned<MH6437> and passed<MH5674a> through<MH5674a> by the way<MH1870> of the wilderness<MH4057b> of Moab<MH4124>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to me, &#8216;Do not attack<MH6696b> Moab<MH4124>, nor<MH408> provoke<MH1624> them to war<MH4421>, for I will not give<MH5414> you any<MH4480> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>their land<MH776> as a possession<MH3425>, because<MH3588> I have given<MH5414> Ar<MH6144> to the sons<MH1121> of Lot<MH3876> as a possession<MH3425>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>(The Emim<MH368a> lived<MH3427> there previously<MH6440>, a people<MH5971a> as great<MH1419>, numerous<MH7227a>, and tall<MH7311> as the Anakim<MH6062>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Like the Anakim<MH6062>, they too<MH637> are regarded<MH2803> as Rephaim<MH7497>, but the Moabites<MH4125> call<MH7121> them Emim<MH368a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>The Horites<MH2752> previously<MH6440> lived<MH3427> in Seir<MH8165>, but the sons<MH1121> of Esau<MH6215> dispossessed<MH3423> them and destroyed<MH8045> them from before<MH6440> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>them, and settled<MH3427> in<MH8478> their place<MH8478>; just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> Israel<MH3478> did<MH6213a> to the land<MH776> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>their possession<MH3425> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> gave<MH5414> them.) <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>&#8216;Now<MH6258> arise<MH6965> and cross<MH5674a> over<MH5674a> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>Wadi<MH5158a> Zered<MH2218> yourselves.&#8217; So we crossed<MH5674a> over<MH5674a> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>Wadi<MH5158a> Zered<MH2218>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Now the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>time<MH3117> that it took<MH1980> for us to come<MH1980> from Kadesh-barnea<MH6947> until<MH5704, 834> we crossed<MH5674a> over<MH5674a> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>Wadi<MH5158a> Zered<MH2218> was thirty-eight<MH7970, 8083> years<MH8141>, until<MH5704> all<MH3605> the generation<MH1755> of the men<MH376> of war<MH4421> perished<MH8552> from within<MH7130> the camp<MH4264>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had sworn<MH7650> to them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Indeed<MH1571>, the hand<MH3027> of the LORD<MH3068> was against them, to destroy<MH2000> them from within<MH7130> the camp<MH4264> until<MH5704> they all<MH8552> perished<MH8552>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>&#8220;So it came<MH1961> about<MH1961>, when<MH3512c> all<MH3605> the men<MH376> of war<MH4421> had finally<MH8552> perished<MH8552, 4191> from among<MH7130> the people<MH5971a>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>that the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to me, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>&#8216;Today<MH3117> you shall cross<MH5674a> over<MH5674a> Ar<MH6144>, the border<MH1366> of Moab<MH4124>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>When you come<MH7126> opposite<MH4136> the sons<MH1121> of Ammon<MH5983>, do not attack<MH6696b> them nor<MH408> provoke<MH1624> them, for I will not give<MH5414> you any<MH4480> of the land<MH776> of the sons<MH1121> of Ammon<MH5983> as a possession<MH3425>, because<MH3588> I have given<MH5414> it to the sons<MH1121> of Lot<MH3876> as a possession<MH3425>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>(It is also<MH637> regarded<MH2803> as the land<MH776> of the Rephaim<MH7497>, <i>because the</i> Rephaim<MH7497> previously<MH6440> lived<MH3427> in it, but the Ammonites<MH5984> call<MH7121> them Zamzummin<MH2157>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>a people<MH5971a> as great<MH1419>, numerous<MH7227a>, and tall<MH7311> as the Anakim<MH6062>; but the LORD<MH3068> destroyed<MH8045> them before<MH6440> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>them. And they dispossessed<MH3423> them and settled<MH3427> in<MH8478> their place<MH8478>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> He did<MH6213a> for the sons<MH1121> of Esau<MH6215>, who live<MH3427> in Seir<MH8165>, when<MH834> He destroyed<MH8045> the Horites<MH2752> from before<MH6440> them; they dispossessed<MH3423> them and settled<MH3427> in<MH8478> their place<MH8478>, <i>where they remain</i> even<MH5704> to this<MH2088> day<MH3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And <i>as for</i> the Avvim<MH5761>, who lived<MH3427> in villages<MH2691b> as far<MH5704> as Gaza<MH5804a>, the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>Caphtorim<MH3732>, who came<MH3318> from <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>Caphtor<MH3731>, destroyed<MH8045> them and lived<MH3427> in<MH8478> their place<MH8478>.) <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>&#8216;Arise<MH6965>, set<MH5265> out<MH5265>, and pass<MH5674a> through<MH5674a> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>Valley<MH5158a> of Arnon<MH769>. Look<MH7200>! I have handed<MH5414, 3027> over<MH5414> to you Sihon<MH5511> the Amorite<MH567>, king<MH4428> of Heshbon<MH2809>, and his land<MH776>; start<MH2490c> taking<MH3423> possession<MH3423> and plunge<MH1624> into<MH1624> battle<MH4421> with him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>This<MH2088> day<MH3117> I will begin<MH2490c> to put<MH5414> the dread<MH6343> and fear<MH3374> of you upon the faces<MH6440> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>people<MH5971a> everywhere<MH3605>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>who<MH834>, when they hear<MH8085> the news<MH8088> of you, will tremble<MH7264> and be<MH2342a> in<MH2342a> anguish<MH2342a> because<MH4480, 6440> of you.&#8217; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>&#8220;So I sent<MH7971> messengers<MH4397> from the wilderness<MH4057b> of Kedemoth<MH6932> to Sihon<MH5511> king<MH4428> of Heshbon<MH2809> with words<MH1697> of peace<MH7965>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>&#8216;Let me pass<MH5674a> through your land<MH776>; I will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>travel<MH1980> only on the road<MH1870>. I will not turn<MH5493> aside<MH5493> to the right<MH3225> or to the left<MH8040>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>You will sell<MH7666> me food<MH400> for money<MH3701> so that I may eat<MH398>, and give<MH5414> me water<MH4325> for money<MH3701> so that I may drink<MH8354>, only<MH7534b> let me pass<MH5674a> through<MH5674a> on <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>foot<MH7272>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the sons<MH1121> of Esau<MH6215> who live<MH3427> in Seir<MH8165> and the Moabites<MH4125> who live<MH3427> in Ar<MH6144> did<MH6213a> for me, until<MH5704, 834> I cross<MH5674a> over<MH5674a> the Jordan<MH3383> into the land<MH776> that the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> is giving<MH5414> us.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>But Sihon<MH5511> king<MH4428> of Heshbon<MH2809> was<MH14> not willing<MH14> for us to pass<MH5674a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>through his land; for the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> hardened<MH7185> his spirit<MH7307> and made<MH553> his heart<MH3824> obstinate<MH553>, in<MH4616> order<MH4616> to<MH4616> hand<MH3027, 5414> him over<MH5414> to you, as <i>he is</i> today<MH2088, 3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/2-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to me, &#8216;See<MH7200>, I have begun<MH2490c> to turn<MH5414> Sihon<MH5511> and his land<MH776> over<MH5414> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>to you.
