goods experiment conducted in Mali. We use expectations about total public goods provision to estimate a structural choice model with heterogeneous preferences. While unconditional cooperation can be captured by common preferences shared by all participants, conditional cooperation is much more heterogeneous and depends on unobserved individual factors. This structural model, in combination with two experimental treatments, suggests that leadership and group communication incentivize public goods provision through different channels. First, We find that participation of local leaders effectively changes individual choices through unconditional cooperation. A simulation exercise predicts that even in the most pessimistic scenario in which all participants expect zero public good provision, 60% would still choose to cooperate. Second, allowing participants to communicate fosters conditional cooperation. The simulations suggest that expectations are responsible for around 24% of the observed public good provision and that group communication does not necessarily ameliorate public good provision. In fact, communication may even worsen the outcome when expectations are low. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conditional%20cooperation" title="conditional cooperation">conditional cooperation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discrete%20choice%20model" title=" discrete choice model"> discrete choice model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=expectations" title=" expectations"> expectations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public%20goods%20game" title=" public goods game"> public goods game</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=random%20coefficients%20model" title=" random coefficients model"> random coefficients model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43314/evidence-of-conditional-and-unconditional-cooperation-in-a-public-goods-game-experimental-evidence-from-mali" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43314.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">306</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1504</span> Resource-Constrained Heterogeneous Workflow Scheduling Algorithms in Heterogeneous Computing Clusters</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lei%20Wang">Lei Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jiahao%20Zhou"> Jiahao Zhou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The development of heterogeneous computing clusters provides a strong computility guarantee for large-scale workflows (e.g., scientific computing, artificial intelligence (AI), etc.). However, the tasks within large-scale workflows have also gradually become heterogeneous due to different demands on computing resources, which leads to the addition of a task resource-restricted constraint to the workflow scheduling problem on heterogeneous computing platforms. In this paper, we propose a heterogeneous constrained minimum makespan scheduling algorithm based on the idea of greedy strategy, which provides an efficient solution to the heterogeneous workflow scheduling problem in a heterogeneous platform. In this paper, we test the effectiveness of our proposed scheduling algorithm by randomly generating heterogeneous workflows with heterogeneous computing platform, and the experiments show that our method improves 15.2% over the state-of-the-art methods. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heterogeneous%20computing" title="heterogeneous computing">heterogeneous computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=workflow%20scheduling" title=" workflow scheduling"> workflow scheduling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constrained%20resources" title=" constrained resources"> constrained resources</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=minimal%20makespan" title=" minimal makespan"> minimal makespan</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/190199/resource-constrained-heterogeneous-workflow-scheduling-algorithms-in-heterogeneous-computing-clusters" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/190199.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">33</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1503</span> Heterogeneous Intelligence Traders and Market Efficiency: New Evidence from Computational Approach in Artificial Stock Markets</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yosra%20Mefteh%20Rekik">Yosra Mefteh Rekik</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A computational agent-based model of financial markets stresses interactions and dynamics among a very diverse set of traders. The growing body of research in this area relies heavily on computational tools which by-pass the restrictions of an analytical method. The main goal of this research is to understand how the stock market operates and behaves how to invest in the stock market and to study traders’ behavior within the context of the artificial stock markets populated by heterogeneous agents. All agents are characterized by adaptive learning behavior represented by the Artificial Neuron Networks. By using agent-based simulations on artificial market, we show that the existence of heterogeneous agents can explain the price dynamics in the financial market. We investigate the relation between market diversity and market efficiency. Our empirical findings demonstrate that greater market heterogeneity play key roles in market efficiency. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agent-based%20modeling" title="agent-based modeling">agent-based modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20stock%20market" title=" artificial stock market"> artificial stock market</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heterogeneous%20expectations" title=" heterogeneous expectations"> heterogeneous expectations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20stylized%20facts" title=" financial stylized facts"> financial stylized facts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20finance" title=" computational finance"> computational finance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28310/heterogeneous-intelligence-traders-and-market-efficiency-new-evidence-from-computational-approach-in-artificial-stock-markets" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28310.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">438</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1502</span> Economic Stability and Legitimate Expectations in Foreign Investment Rights</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Ghaemi">Mehdi Ghaemi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Within the current paper, there is an attempt to examine the legal system that overrules economic stability and legitimate expectations of foreign investment rights. The aim is to examine how a credit squeeze caused by high lender-level risk perceptions affects the real prices of a collateralised asset, with a special focus on the macroeconomic implications of rising price volatility in terms of total welfare and the number of bankruptcies that occur. To do that, a learning-to-forecast experiment (LtFE) has been run where participants are asked to predict the future price of land and then rewarded based on the accuracy of their forecasts. The setting includes one lender and five borrowers in each of the twelve sessions split between six control groups (G1) and six treatment groups (G2). The only difference is that while in G1 the lender always satisfies borrowers’ loan demand (bankruptcies permitting), in G2 he/she closes the entire credit market in case three or more bankruptcies occur in the previous round. Experimental results show that negative risk-driven supply shocks amplify the volatility of collateral prices. This uncertainty worsens the agents’ ability to predict the future value of land and, as a consequence, the number of defaults increases and the total welfare deteriorates. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Behavioural%20Macroeconomics" title="Behavioural Macroeconomics">Behavioural Macroeconomics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Credit%20Cycle" title="Credit Cycle">Credit Cycle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Experimental%20Economics" title="Experimental Economics">Experimental Economics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heterogeneous%20Expectations" title="Heterogeneous Expectations">Heterogeneous Expectations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Learning-to-Forecast%20Experiment" title="Learning-to-Forecast Experiment">Learning-to-Forecast Experiment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/142210/loan-supply-and-asset-price-volatility-an-experimental-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/142210.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">125</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1499</span> Customer Expectation on Service Quality in Bed and Breakfast Establishments in Johannesburg Metropolitan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chiedza%20Lebogang%20Gutu">Chiedza Lebogang Gutu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nester%20Rufaro%20Manuwa"> Nester Rufaro Manuwa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean-Marie%20Mbuya"> Jean-Marie Mbuya</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In Johannesburg, Metropolitan customer expectations in the hospitality industry have rapidly been increasing which has lead to the need of improving service quality to help satisfy customer expectations. Businesses need to make sure that customer expectations are met, or find ways to control customer expectations. Therefore the purpose of the study is to investigate how customer expectations of services in bed and breakfast establishments affect the perceived quality of service. A quantitative approach was used through random sampling to collect descriptive and correlation study between customer expectations and perceived quality. Findings of the study indicated that customers at bed and breakfast generally expect a clean, friendly and safe environment that has a homely feel, while they are away from home. In addition, findings of the study also emphasised that the age-groups between 20 and 35 are more likely to travel, for business and vacation purposes, staying for more or less 3, have high expectations towards modern facilities and extras in the room such as coffee machines, and are more concerned about the service being provided quickly and right, and taking extra care to deal with problems promptly. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Customer%20satisfaction" title="Customer satisfaction">Customer satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Service%20quality" title=" Service quality"> Service quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bed%20and%20breakfast" title=" Bed and breakfast"> Bed and breakfast</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Customer%20retention" title=" Customer retention"> Customer retention</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77194/customer-expectation-on-service-quality-in-bed-and-breakfast-establishments-in-johannesburg-metropolitan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77194.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">386</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1498</span> Parental Expectations and Student Performance in Secondary School Mathematics Education</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daya%20Weerasinghe">Daya Weerasinghe</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Parental expectations often differ to that of their children and the influence and involvement of parents, at home, may affect the student performance in the classroom. This paper presents results from a survey of Asian and European background secondary school mathematics students (N=128) in Melbourne, Australia. Student responses to survey questions were analysed using confirmatory factor analysis, followed by t-tests and ANOVA. The aim of the analysis was to identify similarities and differences in parental expectations in relation to ethnicity, gender, and the year level of the students. The notable findings from the analysis showed no significant difference (at 0.05 level) in parental expectations and student performance, in relation to ethnicity or gender. Conversely, there was a significant difference in both parental expectations and student performance between year 7 and year 12 students. Further, whilst there was a significant difference in parental expectations between year 7 and year 11 students, the students’ performances were not significantly different. The results suggest further research may be needed to understand the parental expectations and student performance between the lower and upper secondary school mathematics students. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ethnic%20background" title="ethnic background">ethnic background</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender" title=" gender"> gender</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parental%20expectations" title=" parental expectations"> parental expectations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=student%20performance" title=" student performance"> student performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=year%20level" title=" year level"> year level</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41425/parental-expectations-and-student-performance-in-secondary-school-mathematics-education" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41425.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">314</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1497</span> Dynamic Effects of Charitable Giving in a Ramsey Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Riham%20Barbar">Riham Barbar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper studies the dynamic effects of charitable giving in a Ramsey model à la Becker and Foias (1994), such that heterogeneity is reduced to two types of agents: rich and poor. It is assumed that rich show a great concern for poor and enjoy giving. The introduction of charitable giving in this paper is inspired from the notion of Zakat (borrowed from the Islamic Economics) and is defined according to the warm-glow of Andreoni (1990). In this framework, we prove the existence of a steady state where only the patient agent holds capital. Furthermore, we show that local indetermincay appears. While moderate values of charitable-giving elasticity makes the appearance of endogenous fluctuations due to self-fulfilling expectations more likely, high values of this elasticity stabilizes endogenous fluctuations, by narrowing down the range of parameter values compatible with local indeterminacy and may rule out expectations-driven fluctuations if it exceeds certain threshold. Finally, cycles of period two emerge. However, charitable-giving makes it less likely for these cycles to emerge. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=charitable%20giving" title="charitable giving">charitable giving</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=warm-glow" title=" warm-glow"> warm-glow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bifurcations" title=" bifurcations"> bifurcations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heterogeneous%20agents" title=" heterogeneous agents"> heterogeneous agents</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=indeterminacy" title=" indeterminacy"> indeterminacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-fulfilling%20expectations" title=" self-fulfilling expectations"> self-fulfilling expectations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=endogenous%20fluctuations" title=" endogenous fluctuations"> endogenous fluctuations</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19063/dynamic-effects-of-charitable-giving-in-a-ramsey-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19063.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">316</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1496</span> Artificial Intelligence Methods for Returns Expectations in Financial Markets </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yosra%20Mefteh%20Rekik">Yosra Mefteh Rekik</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Younes%20Boujelbene"> Younes Boujelbene</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We introduce in this paper a new conceptual model representing the stock market dynamics. This model is essentially based on cognitive behavior of the intelligence investors. In order to validate our model, we build an artificial stock market simulation based on agent-oriented methodologies. The proposed simulator is composed of market supervisor agent essentially responsible for executing transactions via an order book and various kinds of investor agents depending to their profile. The purpose of this simulation is to understand the influence of psychological character of an investor and its neighborhood on its decision-making and their impact on the market in terms of price fluctuations. Therefore, the difficulty of the prediction is due to several features: the complexity, the non-linearity and the dynamism of the financial market system, as well as the investor psychology. The Artificial Neural Networks learning mechanism take on the role of traders, who from their futures return expectations and place orders based on their expectations. The results of intensive analysis indicate that the existence of agents having heterogeneous beliefs and preferences has provided a better understanding of price dynamics in the financial market. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20intelligence%20methods" title="artificial intelligence methods">artificial intelligence methods</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20stock%20market" title=" artificial stock market"> artificial stock market</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=behavioral%20modeling" title=" behavioral modeling"> behavioral modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-agent%20based%20simulation" title=" multi-agent based simulation"> multi-agent based simulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27421/artificial-intelligence-methods-for-returns-expectations-in-financial-markets" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27421.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">445</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1495</span> Study of the Vertical Handoff in Heterogeneous Networks and Implement Based on Opnet</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wafa%20Benaatou">Wafa Benaatou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adnane%20Latif"> Adnane Latif </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this document we studied more in detail the Performances of the vertical handover in the networks WLAN, WiMAX, UMTS before studying of it the Procedure of Handoff Vertical, the whole buckled by simulations putting forward the performances of the handover in the heterogeneous networks. The expansive and continuously changing demands for quality and equal education for all students in educational organisations that have limited resources connotes that the negative effects of TBP cannot be simply ignored as being non-existent in the educational environment. As this quantitative study reveals, teachers disliking their job with low expectations, lack of motivation in their workplace and pessimism, result in their low self-esteem. When there is pessimism in the workplace, then the employees&rsquo; self-esteem will inevitably be low, as pointed out by 97.1% of the respondents in this study. Self-esteem is a reliable indicator of whether employees are happy or not in their jobs and the majority of the respondents in this study agreed that their experiences of TBP negatively impacted on their self-esteem. Hence, this exploratory study strongly indicates that productivity in the workplace is directly linked to the employees&rsquo; expectations, self-confidence and their self-esteem. It is therefore inconceivable for teachers to be productive in their regular classrooms if their genuine professional concerns, anxieties, and curriculum challenges are not adequately addressed. This empirical study contributes to our knowledge on TBP because it clearly outlines some of the teaching problems that we are grappling with and constantly experience in our schools in this century. Therefore, it is imperative that the tobephobic experiences of teachers are not merely documented, but appropriately addressed with relevant action by every stakeholder associated with education so that our teachers&rsquo; emotions and job satisfaction needs are fully taken care of. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=demotivated%20teachers%27%20pessimism" title="demotivated teachers&#039; pessimism">demotivated teachers&#039; pessimism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low%20expectations%20of%20teachers%27%20job%20satisfaction" title=" low expectations of teachers&#039; job satisfaction"> low expectations of teachers&#039; job satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-esteem" title=" self-esteem"> self-esteem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tobephobia" title=" tobephobia"> tobephobia</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54318/teachers-perceptions-of-the-negative-impact-of-tobephobia-on-their-emotions-and-job-satisfaction" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54318.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">233</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1490</span> Human Tracking across Heterogeneous Systems Based on Mobile Agent Technologies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tappei%20Yotsumoto">Tappei Yotsumoto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Atsushi%20Nomura"> Atsushi Nomura</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kozo%20Tanigawa"> Kozo Tanigawa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kenichi%20Takahashi"> Kenichi Takahashi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takao%20Kawamura"> Takao Kawamura</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kazunori%20Sugahara"> Kazunori Sugahara</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In a human tracking system, expanding a monitoring range of one system is complicating the management of devices and increasing its cost. The contract is a cognitive pattern-governing employee’s behaviour in the organization. A gap between employee’s expectations and the organizational reality may lead to difficult-to-solve conflicts or cause the employee to modify their behaviour towards organizational values and goals, if they are willing and ready to verbalize their expectations. The article discusses psychological contracts in the financial institutions in Poland. Its theoretical part outlines the types of psychological contracts in organizations (relational, transactional, and balanced) and shows the process of their verbalization. The purpose of the article is to present how the type of the psychological contract relates to employee’s readiness to verbalize it. It is therefore of great significance to research the heterogeneous seepage field and stability of landfills. This paper focuses on the heterogeneous characteristics of the landfill piles and analyzes the seepage field and slope stability of the landfill using statistical and numerical analysis methods. The calculated results are compared with the field measurement and literature research data to verify the reliability of the model, which may provide the basis for the design, safe, and eco-friendly operation of the landfill. The main innovations are as follows: (1) The saturated-unsaturated seepage equation of heterogeneous soil is derived theoretically. The heterogeneous landfill is regarded as composed of infinite layers of homogeneous waste, and a method for establishing the heterogeneous seepage model is proposed. Then the formation law of the stagnant water level of heterogeneous landfills is studied. It is found that the maximum stagnant water level of landfills is higher when considering the heterogeneous seepage characteristics, which harms the stability of landfills. (2) Considering the heterogeneity weight and strength characteristics of waste, a method of establishing a heterogeneous stability model is proposed, and it is extended to the three-dimensional stability study. It is found that the distribution of heterogeneous characteristics has a great influence on the stability of landfill slope. During the operation and management of the landfill, the reservoir bank should also be considered while considering the capacity of the landfill. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heterogeneous%20characteristics" title="heterogeneous characteristics">heterogeneous characteristics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leachate%20levels" title=" leachate levels"> leachate levels</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=saturated-unsaturated%20seepage" title=" saturated-unsaturated seepage"> saturated-unsaturated seepage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seepage%20field" title=" seepage field"> seepage field</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=slope%20stability" title=" slope stability"> slope stability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/140053/research-of-seepage-field-and-slope-stability-considering-heterogeneous-characteristics-of-waste-piles-a-less-costly-way-to-reduce-high-leachate-levels-and-avoid-accidents" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/140053.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">251</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1487</span> Hydrogen: Contention-Aware Hybrid Memory Management for Heterogeneous CPU-GPU Architectures</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yiwei%20Li">Yiwei Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mingyu%20Gao"> Mingyu Gao</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Integrating hybrid memories with heterogeneous processors could leverage heterogeneity in both compute and memory domains for better system efficiency. The researcher utilized a qualitative descriptive study on 19 administrators from three secondary schools in the North Kinta district. The respondents had been interviewed on their understanding expectations of school assessment using the focus group discussion method. Overall findings showed that the administrators’ understanding expectations of school assessment was weak; especially in terms of content focus, articulation across age and grade, transparency and fairness, as well as the pedagogical implications. Findings from interviews indicated that administrators explained their understanding expectations of school assessment from the aspect of school management, and not from the aspect of instructional leadership or specifically as assessment leaders. The study implications from the administrators’ understanding expectations may hint at the difficulty of the administrators to function as assessment leaders, in order to reduce their focus as manager, and move towards their primary role in the process of teaching and learning. The administrator, as assessment leaders, would be able to reach assessment goals via collaboration in identifying and listing teacher assessment competencies, how to construct assessment capacity, how to interpret assessment correctly, the use of assessment and how to use assessment information to communicate confidently and effectively to the public. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assessment%20leaders" title="assessment leaders">assessment leaders</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assessment%20goals" title=" assessment goals"> assessment goals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=instructional%20leadership" title=" instructional leadership"> instructional leadership</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=understanding%20expectation%20of%20assessment" title=" understanding expectation of assessment"> understanding expectation of assessment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36759/identifying-understanding-expectations-of-school-administrators-regarding-school-assessment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36759.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">457</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1485</span> Heuristic for Accelerating Run-Time Task Mapping in NoC-Based Heterogeneous MPSoCs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20K.%20Benhaoua">M. In this volatile business sector it is of the utmost importance to implement a strategy of quality differentiation. Vital aspects of a quality differentiation strategy are total quality management, benchmarking and service quality management. Ultimately, restaurant success depends on the continuous support of customers. Customers select restaurants based on their expectations of quality. If the customers' expectations are met, they perceive quality service and will re-patronize the restaurant. The restaurateur can manage perceptions of quality by influencing expectations while ensuring that those expectations are not inflated. The management of expectations can be done by communicating service quality to customers. The aim of this research paper is to describe the development of a grading process for restaurants. An assessment of the extensive body of literature on grading was conducted through content analysis. A standardized method for developing a grading system would assist in successful grading systems that could inform both customers and restaurateurs of restaurant quality. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=benchmarking" title="benchmarking">benchmarking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=restaurants" title=" restaurants"> restaurants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grading" title=" grading"> grading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=service%20quality" title=" service quality"> service quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=total%20quality%20management" title=" total quality management"> total quality management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9127/developing-a-grading-system-for-restaurants" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9127.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">333</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1481</span> Investigation of Engineers` and Student Engineers` University Choices Effect over Professional Expectations </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alev%20Erenler">Alev Erenler</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yeliz%20Yazici"> Yeliz Yazici</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> It is undoubtful that the development in the technology has been increasing the importance of engineering day by day along with the interest of the profession also. Like in any other genre, the success in engineering career is directly related to the amount of the satisfaction from the profession. Having satisfaction is an important factor for both having psychological health and efficiency. In this concept, the engineers from all steps, like students from different grades, working in related professions and the candidates of engineering have been included in order to define the expectations of the profession and the levels if professional satisfaction. In the concept of the study, the factors such as; the graduated university, the university which has been attending at, the grades of the participants, the reasons behind the choosing the university, the order of the choices and demographic values have planned to examine. It is thought that these factors have a meaningful effect on the professional expectations. It is also aimed to find the similar participants from the working life, and the data is to be compared to candidates of engineering in terms if differentiation of expectations. The related data will be gathered by the help of the scale prepared and developed by the researchers special for this study, titled as ' the professional expectation scale for engineers'. The data is to be analyzed in SPSS program, and the results will be interpreted in relation with the literature. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=engineering%20education" title="engineering education">engineering education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=engineers%27%20professional%20expectations" title=" engineers&#039; professional expectations"> engineers&#039; professional expectations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=engineering%20students%27%20professional%20expectations" title=" engineering students&#039; professional expectations"> engineering students&#039; professional expectations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=students%E2%80%99%20university%20choices" title=" students’ university choices"> students’ university choices</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79481/investigation-of-engineers-and-student-engineers-university-choices-effect-over-professional-expectations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79481.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">336</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1480</span> Moderators of the Relationship between Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy and Expected Firm Growth</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laszlo%20Szerb">Laszlo Szerb</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zsofia%20Voros"> Zsofia Voros</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this article, we seek to answer why many attempts to empirically link entrepreneurial self-efficacy to growth expectations have failed. While doing so, we reconcile the literature on entrepreneurial self-efficacy and overconfidence. By analyzing GEM APS (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Adult Population Survey) data, we show that early-stage entrepreneurs’ self-efficacy statements are systematically inflated. Our results also indicate that entrepreneurial overconfidence is fading and its form changes as business owners learn and gather experience. In addition, by using Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior (2006) as a modeling framework, we illustrate that early stage business owners’ overconfidence results in overly high firm growth expectations. However, the changes in the form of overconfidence and the adjustments of expectations on market conditions as a venture ages alter the relationship between overconfidence and growth expectations across the business life-cycle stages. Overall, our study empirically links young entrepreneurs’ overconfidence to their growth expectations at the firm level. This link is important to establish as expected growth was linked to realized growth both on micro and macro levels. Moreover, we detected several moderators of this relationship providing a potential answer to why many studies failed to link entrepreneurial self-efficacy to growth expectations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-efficacy" title="self-efficacy">self-efficacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=overconfidence" title=" overconfidence"> overconfidence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=entrepreneurship" title=" entrepreneurship"> entrepreneurship</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=expected%20growth" title=" expected growth"> expected growth</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89995/moderators-of-the-relationship-between-entrepreneurial-self-efficacy-and-expected-firm-growth" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89995.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">272</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1479</span> An Adaptive CFAR Algorithm Based on Automatic Censoring in Heterogeneous Environments</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naime%20Boudemagh">Naime Boudemagh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this work, we aim to improve the detection performances of radar systems. To this end, we propose and analyze a novel censoring technique of undesirable samples, of priori unknown positions, that may be present in the environment under investigation. Therefore, we consider heterogeneous backgrounds characterized by the presence of some irregularities such that clutter edge transitions and/or interfering targets. The proposed detector, termed automatic censoring constant false alarm (AC-CFAR), operates exclusively in a Gaussian background. It is built to allow the segmentation of the environment to regions and switch automatically to the appropriate detector; namely, the cell averaging CFAR (CA-CFAR), the censored mean level CFAR (CMLD-CFAR) or the order statistic CFAR (OS-CFAR). Monte Carlo simulations show that the AC-CFAR detector performs like the CA-CFAR in a homogeneous background. A Scale of Knowledge (SoK) Framework is proposed which links knowledge management and organisational activities to changing stakeholder expectations. The framework was informed by the knowledge management literature, as well as empirical work conducted via a single case study of a multi-site hospital organisation in Saudi Arabia. Eight in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with managers from across the organisation regarding current and future stakeholder expectations, organisational strategy/activities and knowledge management. Data were analysed using thematic analysis and a hierarchical value map technique to identify activities that can produce further knowledge and consequently impact on how stakeholder expectations are met. The SoK Framework developed may be useful to practitioners as an analytical aid to determine if current organisational activities produce organisational knowledge which helps them meet (increasingly higher levels of) stakeholder expectations. The limitations of the research and avenues for future development of the proposed framework are discussed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knowledge%20creation" title="knowledge creation">knowledge creation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knowledge%20management" title=" knowledge management"> knowledge management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organisational%20knowledge" title=" organisational knowledge"> organisational knowledge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=analytical%20aid" title=" analytical aid"> analytical aid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stakeholders" title=" stakeholders"> stakeholders</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23627/knowledge-and-organisational-success-developing-a-scale-of-knowledge-framework" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23627.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">433</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1477</span> Event Monitoring Based On Web Services for Heterogeneous Event Sources</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arne%20Koschel">Arne Koschel</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This article discusses event monitoring options for heterogeneous event sources as they are given in nowadays heterogeneous distributed information systems. It follows the central assumption, that a fully generic event monitoring solution cannot provide complete support for event monitoring; instead, event source specific semantics such as certain event types or support for certain event monitoring techniques have to be taken into account. Following from this, the core result of the work presented here is the extension of a configurable event monitoring (Web) service for a variety of event sources. A service approach allows us to trade genericity for the exploitation of source specific characteristics. It thus delivers results for the areas of SOA, Web services, CEP and EDA. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=event%20monitoring" title="event monitoring">event monitoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ECA" title=" ECA"> ECA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CEP" title=" CEP"> CEP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SOA" title=" SOA"> SOA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=web%20services" title=" web services"> web services</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28805/event-monitoring-based-on-web-services-for-heterogeneous-event-sources" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28805.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">742</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1476</span> Communication in a Heterogeneous Ad Hoc Network</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=C.%20Benjbara">C. These application domains present a common characteristic which is the need of coexistence and intercommunication between modules belonging to different types of ad hoc networks like wireless sensor networks, mesh networks, mobile ad hoc networks, vehicular ad hoc networks, etc. This vision to bring to life such heterogeneous networks will make humanity duties easier but its development path is full of challenges. One of these challenges is the communication complexity between its components due to the lack of common or compatible protocols standard. This article proposes a new patented routing protocol based on the OLSR standard in order to resolve the heterogeneous ad hoc networks communication issue. This new protocol is applied on a specific network architecture composed of MANET, VANET, and FANET. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
