Vietnam is the Japan’s largest wood pellet provider. As Japan’s future demand on the product will increase there are ample opportunities to expand the trade between the two countries. <BR>  </P> <P align=left>According to Vietnam’s customs data in 2023 Vietnam exported 2.8 million tonnes of wood pellets products to Japan, worth nearly $440 million US (FOB Vietnam). Secondly, companies exported wood pellets to Japan manage to use several certification systems to prove sustainability in the absence of unified view from the Japanese side. Thirdly, Vietnamese manufacturers and exporters particularly SMEs have had from little information to no information about the dynamics of market including future demand and legality /sustainability requirements from Japan. Finally, Japanese pellet consumers have little information regarding Vietnam’s pellet supply chains including feedstocks of Vietnam’s wood pellets. These factors constitute various types of risk for the bilateral trade. <BR>  </P> <P align=left>With support from Forest Trends, Vietnam’s Wood Pellets Association (VWPA) and Japan’s Biomass Power Association (BPA) have been organizing annual exchange for their members to better understand about the supply chains and market and to facilitate sustainable trade between the two countries. <BR>  </P> <P align=left>From Vietnam side, there will be representatives from Vietnam’s Department of Forestry, Vietnam’s Timber and Forest Products Association (VIFOREST), and 25-30 CEOs of Vietnamese manufacturers /exporters.
