return<MH7725>, every<MH376> man<MH376>, to his house<MH1004>, for this<MH2088> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>event<MH1697> is from Me.”’” So they listened<MH8085> to the words<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> and returned<MH7725> from going<MH1980> against<MH413> Jeroboam<MH3379>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Rehoboam<MH7346> lived<MH3427> in Jerusalem<MH3389> and built<MH1129> cities<MH5892b> for defense<MH4692> in Judah<MH3063>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>He built<MH1129> Bethlehem<MH1035>, Etam<MH5862>, Tekoa<MH8620>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Beth-zur<MH1049>, Soco<MH7755>, Adullam<MH5725>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Gath<MH1661>, Mareshah<MH4762>, Ziph<MH2128>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Adoraim<MH115>, Lachish<MH3923>, Azekah<MH5825>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Zorah<MH6881>, Aijalon<MH357>, and Hebron<MH2275a>, which<MH834> are fortified<MH4694> cities<MH5892b> in Judah<MH3063> and Benjamin<MH1144>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>He also strengthened<MH2388> the fortresses<MH4694> and put<MH5414> officers<MH5057> in them and supplies<MH214> of food<MH3978>, oil<MH8081>, and wine<MH3196>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span><i>He put</i> shields<MH6793c> and spears<MH7420> in every<MH3605> city<MH5892b> and strengthened<MH2388> them greatly<MH7235a, 3966>. So he held<MH1961> Judah<MH3063> and Benjamin<MH1144>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Moreover, the priests<MH3548> and the Levites<MH3881> who<MH834> were in all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> also stood<MH3320> with him from all<MH3605> their districts<MH1366>. <p class="hdg">Jeroboam Appoints False Priests</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>For the Levites<MH3881> left<MH5800a> their pasture<MH4054> lands<MH4054> and their property<MH272> and went<MH1980> to Judah<MH3063> and Jerusalem<MH3389>, because Jeroboam<MH3379> and his sons<MH1121> had excluded<MH2186a> them from serving<MH3547> as<MH3547> priests<MH3547> to the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>He set<MH5975> up priests<MH3548> of his own for the high<MH1116> places<MH1116>, for the satyrs<MH8163c> and the calves<MH5695> which<MH834> he had made<MH6213a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Those from all<MH3605> the tribes<MH7626> of Israel<MH3478> who set<MH5414> their hearts<MH3824> on seeking<MH1245> the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>followed<MH935> them to Jerusalem<MH3389>, to sacrifice<MH2076> to the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> of their fathers<MH1>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>They strengthened<MH2388> the kingdom<MH4438> of Judah<MH3063> and supported<MH553> Rehoboam<MH7346> the son<MH1121> of Solomon<MH8010> for three<MH7969> years<MH8141>, for they walked<MH1980> in the way<MH1870> of David<MH1732> and Solomon<MH8010> for three<MH7969> years<MH8141>. <p class="hdg">Rehoboam’s Family</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then Rehoboam<MH7346> married<MH3947, 802> Mahalath<MH4258> the daughter<MH1323> of Jerimoth<MH3406> the son<MH1121> of David<MH1732> <i>and of</i> Abihail<MH32> the daughter<MH1323> of Eliab<MH446> the son<MH1121> of Jesse<MH3448>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>and she bore<MH3205> to him sons<MH1121>: Jeush<MH3266>, Shemariah<MH8114>, and Zaham<MH2093>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>After<MH310> her he married<MH3947> Maacah<MH4601> the daughter<MH1323> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>Absalom<MH53>, and she bore<MH3205> to him Abijah<MH29>, Attai<MH6262>, Ziza<MH2124>, and Shelomith<MH8019a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/11-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Rehoboam<MH7346> loved<MH157> Maacah<MH4601> the daughter<MH1323> of Absalom<MH53> more<MH4480> than<MH4480> all<MH3605> his <i>other</i> wives<MH802> and concubines<MH6370>.
