Photograph: Rebecca Naden/PA</p> </div> <p><a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20090730072246/http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/manchestercity">Manchester City</a> completed the £14m signing of Kolo Touré from <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20090730072246/http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/arsenal">Arsenal</a> tonight and immediately set about trying to bring in another central defender by bidding £19m for Joleon Lescott of Everton.</p><p>The offer is the second that City have lodged with Everton, having started the negotiation process at £15m on 16 July. That was rejected out of hand but City's information is that Lescott wants to join them and, armed with that knowledge, they are hoping Everton will not be so intransigent this time. If not, City may have to go through the £20m mark if Mark Hughes is to get his wish to put Lescott alongside Touré in a new-look central defensive partnership.</p><p>Touré has signed a four-year contract, becoming the club's sixth summer signing after the arrival of Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez, Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz and Stuart Taylor, in the process taking Hughes's spending to £94m since the end of last season.</p><p>"I am delighted to welcome Kolo to Manchester City," Hughes said. "It is no secret that we have been looking to strengthen our defence and, in Kolo, I feel we have recruited a world-class player. He brings a wealth of <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20090730072246/http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/premierleague">Premier League</a> experience from his seven seasons with Arsenal. Kolo has been a central figure in a very strong Arsenal team for many years and I have been an admirer of him for a long time. He is strong, quick, reads the game well and will be an influential figure in the dressing room."</p><p>City have also moved to assure Nedum Onuoha he still has a future at the club, with the England Under-21 international centre-half signing a new five-year contract."Nedum is a very important part of my future plans for the team, and I am very pleased he has decided to extend his contract with us," Hughes said. "Despite his tender years, he has already matured into a very good defender who has made a significant impact on the first team."</p><p>The Bulgarian striker Valeri Bojinov has been informed he will
